This weekend i was having ago in my godfathers VR6, what i noticed apart from the vast increase in torque compared to my 16v was how well the thing stopped! The brakes were incredible  So... i know this has been asked before but i need some clarity: - what size are my brakes atm i have a 1990 1.8 16v. - I know theres a "how to" for 288 REAR brake upgrade but what if i want bigger brakes on the front too, can you put 288 on the front aswell as the back? - Whats size are the vr6 brakes and what size do people usually go for when upgrading the 16v brakes? I know its a pain in the ass having to answer the same questions over and over but like i said i needed clarity. and having all my answers in the same place will make it less complicated for me. I have always thought that having powerful brakes is almost as much fun as having a superfast engine so looking forward to this upgrade, any help would be appreciated, cheers guys!

Lol not sure if your taking the piss or not!! but... in halfords you can pick up 250ml for £20, i think its something like £70 a litre so it is expensive but well worth it it completely removes friction between moving parts with unlocks stolen hp! I didnt have to pay for mine as i have a very generous godfather who gave me it but im on a downward spiral now as im gonna have to start buying it as it really does make a huge difference!

Changed my oil today and filter, used castrol edge with some zx1 additive....WOW what the zx1 does: ZX1 Micro Oil Metal Treatment does not change the properties of the oil, or other native lubricant, but chemically bonds to the metal surfaces, modifying the friction surfaces of the metal. It allows the oil (Team ZX1 do not wish to rubbish the oil currently being used, as it needs this oil) to do its job even better and the significant benefits result in:- Lowered carbon exhaust emissions Increased MPG Excellent cold start protection and anti-wear performance Protects immediately up to 25,000 miles Impregnated wearing surfaces Virtually eliminated friction. Jesus the car runs so much better with this combo!!! Highly recommend both, pointless thread but thought id share the love!

Perfect exactly the sort of thing this thread needs

Wondered if we could put all 16v tuning tips here, i know theres a wiki how to guide but i thought theres probably other things that can be done so if anyones got any tips on how to improve performance on a 16v then fire away :help:
-
Yeah as abdul says, you do what you can, plus I like my wheels and there not exactly heavy! Iv been strongly influenced by the ferrado in my 'OMG' thread and want to replicate/improve on what that guys done, for instance I'm still gonna have a stereo tucked away and I'll probs leave the heating in too!! Just throwing a few ideas about atm will see what happens
-
do they usually get "tappey" on a cold start up? i might do this as im planning on putting some fast road cams in...cheers for the info :salute:
-
okie dokes cheers guys, will get the inside done if it all goes ahead then...i guess if its a crap idea at least it everything that comes out can go back in again! be interesting to see how this affects the performance
-
whys it a good idea to replace tappets? im thinking of replacing a few bits and bobs in my engine so may do these if its worth it?
-
yep gonna leave everything out when its done, luckily i dont have a sunroof so dont have that to contend with! im going for an ultra lightweight 16v! look at the OMG thread in the "general chat section" and thats what im going for but in alpine white and with borbets rather than custom wheels! even when everythings out and cleaned up you dont think that a mop and polish is enough? its not a problem getting it resprayed just would save time not having to get it done!
-
not the greatest site in the world to be saying these things... :nono: although those seats would look nice in my corrado!
-
...whats the best plan of attack to getting it made it right? Its not too bad, just a mild scrape just know its gonna do my head in knowing its there, anyone know a good mobile refurbisher or somewhere in suffolk that can get it fixed?
-
anyone completely stripped the interior of the corrado? and i mean completely, roof lining, carpets, trim etc.... just wondered how good/bad the paint is underneath it all, will a rotary polisher bring out a nice finish or will it really require a respray?
-
thanks dude thats exactly what i was after! Tell me thats not one of the nicest corrado's you've seen!? Im gonna attempt a strip to the same degree in the near future (probably in the spring once its a bit warmer) how hard can it be, take everything out then clean and polish it all up to a nice finish, sounds easy right?
-
can you link me please?
-
also that one on speedhunters, in the picture of the engine bay, whats the shiny silver box in front of the manifold? and also where can i get one of those alternator covers from!? will hits up edition now and see what i can find
-
its kinda the point in this thread i cant find any pics of it anywhere!! i was hoping someone would have some more info on the car as its truly a work of art...
-
oh my!!! god thats nice too, prefer the interior (or rather lack of it) in the ferrado tho! how does that gear shift work then? i also thinks its refreshing to see big numbers being pushed from a valver, may keep it rather than a 1.8t conversion??? If nyone could find a detailed read up of the ferrado like that speedhunters one that would be great, i need wider rear wheels.....(anyone wanna swap some borbet A's 7" for the 9" wheels? there in near perfect condition lol)
-
yeah thats the one the "ferrado"!!! jesus ive never seen anything like it absolutely lovely. I may so a similar strip, but keep the borbets! hows he got 200bhp from a 16v or is it because its so stripped out jut increased the power to weight ratio?
-
Anyone seen the red corrado in this months pvw, absolutely stunning!! If your yet to see it have a flick through a copy its so simple yet so effective and those wheels and stance is too die for, may do the same to mine!
-
I'm near ipswich in suffolk if that's any help! I phoned toad and they said it probably needs a service, but it costs 150 for a service and all they do is check it over, I told him it works fine I just want it to chirp after that he didn't really give me any answer at all! So still not sure what to do!
-
hahah this actually made me laugh! Well its a relief to know that it does "chirp" just need someone who knows how to adjust the control box, talking to a guy from toad atm and he said it probably needs a service? how on earth do you service an alarm!? I know where the control box is, so if anyone knows how to adjust it then let me know!
-
Leather Trimmed centre tunnel / pillar trims - now in cream!

same, that looks amazing! -
I have A Toad Ai600 alarm fitted to my corrado which is amazing, thatcham 1 status and does everything i need it too apart from....it wont "chirp" when arming and disarming and i would like it too! I've heard that in the brainbox of the alarm there is a switch that you can adjust to make it "chirp" but i have no idea how to do this and dont want to take it apart only to find that the car stays locked for the rest of time.... Anyone any good with alrms and could give me some guidance? Cheers Pete
