  1. holy batman Jim! i wonder if you have found the beast! the part description certainly matches what the VW recall info states - to quote "Inline Coolant Pressure Reducer. Pressure Reducer does just that, and helps prevent/prolongs your weak factory heater core from bursting. Save yourself from heater core disasters the easy way." which now makes me wonder even more that if none of our VR's have this fitted it is a reason why we suffer matrix's blowing
  2. well found Jim & yes the gold VR's suffered the same fate but i am unsure if the matrix was redesigned as VW did a recall specifically for the corrado
  3. no apologies needed m8 - all input is welcomed :) i am confused.com & it doesnt help that VW are fecking useless/CBA to help
  4. thanks Jim possibly similar but that states for smaller engines, not the VR6 as per the recall - not sure if that matters
  5. again Jim, that is one of my points - all of our VR's SHOULD have had this fitted, that is why VW did the recall m8. i imagine dealers were not very good at contacting the owners of the vehicles for the recall at the time in 1998 it also happened to the golf VR's as my mechanic can remember it my mechanics thoughts are that it could be the matrix at fault but yes tests are being carried out to diagnose. if it turns out to be head gasket i am going to be fuming & on the phone to Vince because surely a head gasket should not have failed in approx 10k miles! however i want to be sure first plus, it is not a bypass Jim, it is a pressure reducer. inherently it should reduce the level of the pressure that runs through the matrix & thus preserve the life of the matrix EDIT - unless i suppose it reduces pressure by bypassing lol
  6. thanks easypops you have hit a point i have been wondering on - if i have never seen a VR with this recall part fitted, could this be the reason many of us suffer matrix failures!? as you say, you have 4 VR's there but dont recall seeing it on any of them - which kind of falls into line with my above sentence as for the not worrying, sadly that is not the case m8 - the matrix which has failed is only about 2 years old, has seen around 10k miles of use, was fitted by stealth & i believe to be a Valeo brand :( my VR is over-pressurising but not up to the 20psi that the header tank cap should purge at & the recall info states "OVER TIME, EXCESSIVE PRESSURE CAN CAUSE LEAKAGE OF COOLANT FROMTHE SYSTEM, INCLUDING LEAKAGE FROM THE HEAT EXCHANGER." as such we are going to bypass the matrix to check if all else is ok & i am crossing fingers it is just the matrix that has failed
  7. Hello all i am hoping someone can help as i am getting dead ends. I am trying to find the details of the part VW fitted as a safety recall on VR6's, "DEALERS WILL INSTALL IN THE COOLANT INLET HOSE TO THE HEATER CORE, A PRESSURE REDUCER WITH A 5MM DIAMETER SECURED BY A SPRING TENSIONED HOSE CLAMP" the recall sites also says "ALSO A NEW RELAY THAT WILL CHANGE THE OPERATION OF THE SECONDARY ELECTRICAL COOLANT PUMP WILL BE INSTALLED." VW themselves are utterly useless & have no interest in our old cars. The parts guy at my local stealer is a lazy fool & CBA to hunt on his system for me & gave the usual " urgh, a corrado, not gona find any parts for that m8" negative attitude i didnt get much better with UK central VW, with the girl firstly saying she cant look at part numbers when i was asking her to try & track the recall number - 98V295000 - though apparently my VR was listed as not receiving any recalls at all. When i asked how that fares now she said your car is too old. WTF, surely a safety recall should be valid irrespective of time. next i tried Heritage - at least they are helpful! the guy i spoke to looked but was struggling but was asking a colleague to call me back thus i need to ask for help from all you lovely people does anyone out there have a VR6 with this 'pressure reducer' fitted? personally, i can not recall ever seeing a VR with something spliced into the matrix feed hose but that is what the recall info states if someone does have it fitted, is there any chance you could check to see if it has a part number on it pls? my only other thought is to try the breakers & breakers section on here but that is a long shot thank you in advance oh & i should probably mention that i am on the hunt for this as my VR blew its matrix just prior to my mechanic taking it out for a test run to check the new brakes :(
  8. thanks Wullie it is that exact pressure relief valve for the matrix inlet hose that i am trying to find but struggling majorly - several frustrating calls to VW today & none the wiser
  9. i think we are too m8 though now i am unsure as to what this part is actually for in the hose to the throttle body lol
  10. thanks m8 i know this but i thought that as my connectors had been cut off if i had some from a rado with a little remnants of the loom i could match up the wires more easily to resolder
  11. as MZpog said, gets yourself a new one from here they use an LED so will not suffer from the same failure as the OE ones, where the heat from the lamp causes the plastic to go brittle inside
  12. awesome, many thanks no rush m8, whenever you get chance is cool :) i think i just need the ISO's & a few inches of the wires that go into them, as the latter will help me match up what i have behind the dash i will pop the stereo out that is currently just filling the hole later today & have a peek to confirm, will drop you a PM later
  13. matrix itself is not such an issue - it really isnt that hard to change one, just time consuming it is why the VR is over pressurising that is worrying me - hoping for news today
  14. i have been looking into this & found the recall number & details of the recall - http://www.cars.com/recalls/volkswagen-corrado-1992/ it reads as though a one way valve is not the correct item, nor should it go in the hose to the throttle housing, i qoute: DEALERS WILL INSTALL IN THE COOLANT INLET HOSE TO THE HEATER CORE, A PRESSURE REDUCER WITH A 5MM DIAMETER SECURED BY A SPRING TENSIONED HOSE CLAMP. ALSO A NEW RELAY THAT WILL CHANGE THE OPERATION OF THE SECONDARY ELECTRICAL COOLANT PUMP WILL BE INSTALLED. clearly saying it goes in the matrix inlet hose but now ive read the OP first post again maybe we are on about different things
  15. coincidence indeed - my valve arrived mid last week.....then my VR popped its matrix on friday before i had chance to either fit it or give it the mechanic (as it was in his shop for work anyway) i believe these valves were to stop the matrix blowing IF the system overpressurised, as detailed here http://www.cars.com/recalls/volkswagen-corrado-1992/
  16. ha ha tidy lol from what i can muster you just need to check you currently have greater than 7mm gap horizontally between tire on 15" & the arch & that the inner side of the tire can move 2.7mm inwards i think
  17. not sure - i have always just used the spades & then taped them up well i also thought rayne had stopped selling as i had emailed about their heated seat offerings but never got a reply personally, i wouldnt use the raynve kit due to reading of quite a few failures
  18. lol that is the bit i could never figure should the OE tire size not be 195/50/15 though? shouldnt be running on a 40 profile for 15's
  19. thank mic - im trying m8, believe me im trying both my mechanic & myself share your amazement - neither of us could figure how or why it blew the matrix bit typical as i literally took delivery of a one way valve to put back in the coolant hoses as stealth didnt swap the OE one into the roose pipes which could possibly have saved the matrix no mayo on filler cap, no sign of oil mixing with coolant in header tank & a head scratcher as to why the matrix blew when the header cap didnt. the latter goes at 20 PSI apparently something is not right though as when it has over pressurised 3 times now. 1st time i thought it was a jubilee on the aux water pump but then it blew there again & now with a new aux pump fitted the matrix let go plus i am mystified as Stealth only rebuilt the head about 10K ish miles ago, when i replaced pretty much everything that could be suspect in this event. if it turns out to be head gasket i am going to be fuming as it would be yet another saga with the stealth work, which was painful enough as it is. AFAIK vince did the 2nd head rebuild himself due to so many issues with the 1st rebuild might have to track my cc/'s as i think i part paid on a card - does anyone know if c/c insurance covers part payments or just full payments for things?
  20. well screw me sideways with a fecking chainsaw!! the VR is throwing her toys out yet again :( mechanic finished the welding, after being a bitch & reacting 4 times to the stuff he was putting over it, & was about to take her for a test drive to see how the new brakes are warmed her up gently & all good until she decided to over pressurise yet again but this time blew the fecking matrix out none of the obvious head gasket signs but she is not happy for some reason proper sucked the life out of me all weekend & not a happy bunny today
  21. hi m8 FYI i run 16's on my valver with 195/45/16 on front & 205/50/16 on the rear (the rear will be changed when tires are worn) i am unsure of the offset the BBS's have though & their width there is a website that allows you to enter the old & new wheel info & show you how it fits/fouls - ths one http://www.willtheyfit.com/
  22. hi marks2 could i pls take you up on that very kind offer? i know that the ISO's have both been cut on my valver & i am going to have to try & find the ends behind the dash to resolder some back on being able to know which wires i am looking for by tracing back from the ISO would be a great help
