  1. I have to agree with CorradoWannabe, I've had a Mk1GTI, Mk2 GTi, Mk3 GTi plus a Corrado 16v before my G60. Corrado's are far better handling straight out of the box than a Golf. Admittedly the Golf GTIs are quicker than a 16v Corrado due to it's weight. If you want a little bit better poke then you have to go to a G60 or a VR6. I'd recommend a Corrado just for comfort, style and to be different! Still one of my all time favourite looking motors :D
  2. I got one when I had mine resprayed. Cost just shy of £200 fitted - if you have to pay for it yourself.
  3. Nice K plate Metallic blue VR6 with colour coded grill and badge (storm?), Looked like it had BK spoked wheels in Leicester on the outer ring road from Fosse Park to Aylestone road traffic lights. Saturday about 1pm I was on the way to watch Tigers beat Gloucester in my diesel vauxhall cavalier shed
  4. Have you managed to get the old ones out ok? The 2 screws that hold the grille in then tilit the grille out - speaker is attached to the grille. You then need to cut back the plastic off the shelf support a bit with a hack saw or sharp knife. Basically trim off any of the stuff that would go underneath the speaker it self - just leave the gap. MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CUT OFF THE PART THAT THE GRILLE SCREWS INTO!. Done it to mine and there is no problems with rattles etc. You have to do this with ANY replacement rear speakers as the magnets are larger.
  5. Bought an Infinity Basslink in the end. See how that fairs. Just started putting it in last night
  6. that's the plan! plus it's not far from my folks. Neatly wraps up the weekend
  7. At last, after 4 weeks I've got my G60 back from the body shop - Volkskraft, just outside Lincoln. Full respray, new windscreen, wing replaced, bumper repaired, colour coded (delocked) door handles and wing mirror surrounds, new roof rubber strips, various other new rubber seals and trims. Plus a working sunroof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :!: Thanks go to Kevhaywire for the tip on the water guide plate. Fantastic job. Now all I've got to do is put the interior back in, complete with a Infinity basslink and a bluetooth phone kit (Parrot CK3100). I think I'll be busy for the next couple of evenings and most of the weekend. :D Photos of the finished job will be posted later. Here are a few taken during the process. Oh by the way, it ain't on that number plate any more either!!
  8. niels are they all for the later type interior? I would be interested in a set for the early interior - brushed aluminium if possible. Cheers

    Bowden cables

from bentley manual. long black to central flap (mode) door lever. This is the one at the bottom of the heater matrix short black to heater/defroster control flap. As far as I can tell this attaches about half way up the heater matrix on the side (pics aren't that good) blue to air blend (temperature) flap. This looks to be at the bottom too. Next to the clip that holds in place the cable for the 'mode' lever. On the attached pics the cable 37 is the middle one and shold hopefully give you a better idea where it connects to
  10. The .DAT file needs to be in the 'root' directory of your cdr or cdrw. All other music in different folders.
  11. How about touching base with C&R in Nottingham. Not too far from Melton and they'll probably have a few good contacts
  12. I tried to get some chrome handles for an early interior today from trimsport. They can't get them anymore!! Typical! Only thought about them because I've got my door cards off etc in the respray
  13. metallic purple VR N6**XCT outside the Ermine Pub in Ancaster Lincs. Anyone on here?

    Heater...

a cheaper alternative to a new fan is spray the fan bearings with WD40 when you swap the themal fuse over. I did and I've had no probs since and it still works on all 4 settings over a year later.
  15. Pauls Body shop in Barwell, otherside of Hinckley. They spray brand new Noble cars so they got to be good. If I was still living at home I would have got my car resprayed there but as I'm up in Lincoln now..... A very good friend of the family used to work there in the past and he was a perfectionist. He's now given up the body repair trade but he recommends him. I had my old car repaired there Cat C insurance write off (not a corrado!) and I couldn't tell the difference. He quoted me approx £1500 for a respray (approx 1200 + VAT) on the corrado
  16. nope they are part of the window! If you getting it reprayed ask them how they get them out or who they use. Will cost extra though. Mine were taken out by a professional window installer and the seals are in perfect nick. If you leave them in for the respray you could get problems later
  17. its not too bad a job. Just fun with your head stuck in the passenger footwell, bog all room to move and a bit fiddly. The clip flicks off at the RHS as mentioned and the rest of the clip fits in a hole. The only reason its fiddly is trying to remember which way round the bloody clip fits when it pings off - definately an interference fit! Don't be delicate
  18. your bowden cables have probably slipped. Normally the one you can see it from the passenger footwell if you remove the shelf underneath the glove box. It will just need setting up again. Did it recently as I had the same problem. There is a metal clip that stops the cable from moving that has to be levered off. Prise it off from the RHS as you see it. To set up the correct operation you need to set both slide levers to the left (off/cool). Then pull the white lever towards you until you hear the flap hit the end stop. Now the fun bit - put the metal clip back into position!
  19. another couple of possibilities with the clutch is that the shelf isn't in the proper position or the floor mat is catching it. Happened to me and took me ages to spot it because the pedal clipped the mat, even though it looked like it cleared it, then caught on the groove in the shelf I agree with 2cc on the boot lock. vertical only opens with the key and horizontal will open with the central locking - or vice versa :? As for exhausts prefered options seem to be milltek, magnex or supersprint
  20. if its an early door card there is a screw hiding behind the speaker grill. You also need to slide the door handle surround backwards IIRC to get that bit off
  21. red/white is 12v fused brown is earth black is 12v for/to aerial brown/red from accessory/ignition blue FL+ blue/brown FL- red FR+ brown/white FR- brown/red LR- blue/green LR+ red/green RR+ brown/black RR- from official factory repair manual
  22. Cheers bluester, might do that after I've had the bill for the respray. Incidentally how do we contact Carisma or do we contact you for a discount? :!:
  23. I have seen a peugeot one that has the correct internals (I've aquired one) but the outer case is incorrect. It should be possible to swap the case over to suit. I haven't tried it yet as my original still works at present
  24. I think I'll wait a bit anyway. Got quoted at least 350 + vat for a recover just for the door cards.
  25. I had the same hassle trying to insure a £700 bloody diesel. They wanted nearly £400 TPf&T!!!! (9 years plus no claims discount and have to start again on another car!!) Went to Swinton in the end, after trying most of the other 'big names', including Brentacre who the C is insured with. They did an introductory discount which was as cheap as having full no claims discount. Company called Groupama - they specailise in 2nd cars.
