    288mm brakes

I'll agree with Joe, his C was going AND stopping well at Oulton the other week. Right up to the point where.................. Gavin
  2. Take your self out to the pub if you are bored.
  3. benji16v, The Hub, Corrado_VR6, bigbluec. Thanks for your custom fellas. A shame the nights are getting lighter now!................. Gavin

    anoying dents etc

It was back in 95 but you can always check their work out. There wasn't even a Macdonalds in Cornwall til just before I left. No Pizzahut either. Gavin
  5. I don't think VAGCOM can interrogate the ECU of a 2 litre 16V. I may be wrong. Gavin

    anoying dents etc

Andy, my mate got his Golf painted at a place in Newquay called Springfields. Round the back of what used to be Fosters nightclub on the seafront. He said that even 5 years later it was in good condition and non of teh rust he had treated had come back. The other place he said is near to Truro. If you know the name Steve Whitford of mag features galore. He/his dad has a bodyshop but I expect it will be pretty big money. Cheers Gavin

Andy, I'll have a word with my mate. I am sure he had some paint done when we worked down there. Not a bad job I thought. Gavin
  8. That thin bit of plate is held on with 2 bolts IIRC. Gavin
  9. I had one yesterday. I pull onto a white spot roundabout having seen the old biddy in a 52 plate Polo. I notice that she doesn't appear to have backed off for this roundabout and will defo drive thru my door(LHD) if we both keep moving. I stop dead on the roundabout and stare in disbelief. She clocks me at the last moment, anchours up and stops halfway onto the roundabout. Then waves me on like she is doing me a favour. I think my ex-biker/6th/spidey sense saved me again. :D Any way she follows me for about 10 miles on this country round. I am doing this chameleon thing to make sure she doesn't rear end me. Gavin
  10. You can and I have pulled plenty of boxes and have never had to remove the flange. You need to rotate the back of the box up before pulling it off the engine, it then clears the back of the block. To fit it you hook the flange over the block and then rotate the diff back down. It works with both rod and cable boxes. There is also a notch in the egde of the flywheel that is supposed to help with the job too. I have done clutches on my own but I usually pick the box up from above at least if it falls you aren't under it...... Gavin
  11. Some 4 stud Audis of that era are 4X108mm PCD so they'll be no good for a VW. Gavin
  12. The DX bolt is a 6 point bolt not a 12 point like the stretchy one. The DX bolt is likely to be the superceded one. Gavin
  13. A mate in the States sent this gem. http://www.vwot.org/community/modules/G ... 28kbps.wmv The sound track contains a bit of swearing so not 100% work or kid/mum/girlfriend safe. Gavin

    Noisy pulleys..

I'll second Steves comment. VAG belts have some crosshatching on the back which I think prevents the squeaking. I definately wouldn't fit a smooth belt after having a squadron of budgies under the bonnet of my Golf for 2 years..... Gavin

    Crank bolt?

My passat one came off easy cos the chuffer had spun the crank pulley  I fitted a std bolt while the DX one came in. Even that was hard to get out. I wouldn't fit one with a gun, especially a std one, the constant shocking can't be good for it. Wheelbolts are made of different steel and not done up as tight. Gavin

    Crank bolt?

Get third friend with large feet to stand on the brakes with the car in gear. :D Gavin Don't use a std bolt as a replacement. Get one from an A1 with the DX engine.

    Engine mount

A lot of GSF parts are genuine without the VW badge. Although if you wanted a genuine mount for less money I have one in my garage. It is unused in the box. PM if you are interested. Gavin
  18. Your alarm should be able to take inputs from other sensors. Usually they look for a negative trigger. I can't speak for your alarm but GT alarms have a pink wire for extra sensors. If you have ultrasonics fitted, I'd remove them. Also I would wire it so it runs from a permanent 12volt supply. I have had false alarms from using the 'live when armed' output off the alarm itself. Gavin
  19. You need to remove the inlet manifold, cam cover, timing belt, (fit a new one) undo the bearing caps for both cams lift out the cams and swap in the new inlet cam. Re-fit everything paying attention to torque settings, especially the cam bearing cap nuts. Check the cam, crank ign timing and Bob's your uncle. I would budget 1/2 a day to do it comfortably. Get a Haynes for a MK2 Golf. All you need is in there. The old green covered one. Gavin
  20. The precious metals don't like unburnt fuel and oil on them. Not sure what it does, not being a research chemist. They also don't like silicon. so be careful if using that on gaskets in the exhaust system. All the special sockets on Snap Ons site are 22mm so I guess that'll be the size like dav says. Gavin
  21. I think it may be a 22 or 24mm. Defo not 19. Gavin
  22. There is a bulb in it that is on all the time. That would account for the heat in it. Gavin
  23. You want the one from a MK1 Golf GTI DX engine and the washer that goes with it. As you will be getting it from a dub dealer have them get you the number. Gavin
  24. If it goes good on WOT then I would be pointing my finger at the lambda probe. At WOT the ECU ingores any input from the probe. The fact it's original is not an issue. They could feasibly outlast the car. I would certainly check the wiring before replacing it off hand. Gavin
