Try contacting Scorpian for some instructions on reprogramming. I bet that would sort it out. Often bonnet open, ign on or similar to set the alarm into a learning mode. Gavin

You can't do any messing with the KR management without fitting VSAM or Kstar. There are a few tweaks you can do to the std fuelling to get the best from it. Not something for the DIY mechanic really though. Have alook on GSFs website and see if they list different headgaskets for the 1800 and 2 litre. I cannot remember if they are different or not. Gavin

My 1988-91 passat haynes manual covers the 9A, although a lot of the photos are geared towards the 8v passats. David. It has the fluid specs and stuff but it's not got all the info for a full engine rebuild like you would find in the MK2 Golf manual. There is nothing on the ign and injection systems if I remember correctly, which is where the VW book comes in. For instance you can't even adjust the tickover on a 9A...... Gavin

Haynes never did a manual for the 9A. They do have a VW one, I got sent some photocopies of a couple of pages from it years ago by a very nice young lady. There was one on ebay last year, I sold it to a lad off the forum. mrbeige why do you want all the info??? Gavin

I am glad we have stayed out of Europe then. Think is the Germans can do allsorts if the bits have TUV approval. You should campaign for Belgium to take on Germanys 'sensible' approach to fettling....... Gavin

The ECU doesn't learn anything so there is no reset. Everything runs off stored maps. As long as all the sensors are working as you start the car it will be happy. Any(just one sensor) failures with the ign on will cause it to ignore particular sensors until they are fixed. As the failure occurs the ECU begins using default data to prevent damage to the engine. I wouldn't fit a 944 FPR(I assume you mean a 3.5BAR one) without a chip designed to run with the additional fuel, it'll just run rich. Gavin

I really rate Weitec. I doubt whether your standard shocks will cope with springs that short though. You should buy a kit Gvain

Check all the plugs are tight before condemning the leads. Maybe refit 3 of the old plugs by way of trouble shooting. Gavin

Take the cowling off the steering column, if its got a txpndr there will be a loop aerial thingy around the lock. Failing that VW should be able to tell you based on the chassis number. If it does have one the keys are about £15 and you will probably get hit for half an hours labour to programme it. Although I believe you can program them with VAGCOM. Gavin

Yeah, only a 20 minute job to remove a charger. I did one tonight  Let me know what you find inside. Gavin

I got some cages if you need them.

If there is a bit of damp on the belt, it might not squeal but still slip which is where you lose the assistance. Once it dries up no slipping . There is adjustment, you need to slacken the 3( I think) mounting bolts off and then tension the belt and do the 3 bolts back up. Might even need a new belt, they are the cheapest ones on the car. Gavin

Slack power steering belt. Any squealing? Gavin

Without a reference from the lambda probe the ECU assumes the worst and piles in the fuel so you don't blow the motor up. If teh pipe is less than 95cm you would notice it bogging down at low revs and flying at the top end. My guess is that the pulses in the inlet manifold take a certain amount of time to reach the MAP sensor and if they arrive out of sync they confuse the hell out of the ECU. Gavin

flusted, I wouldn't use AVOs to hold a door open. I had loads of bother with mine, they just chucked oil everywhere after about 2000 miles. A firm in Peterborough called Racers Hardware sorted them under AVOs warranty but the same thing happened again. They may be able to fettle yours. http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction ... &x=25&y=14 Fit some std suspension while you get your own sorted. Just check that the insert hasn't come loose. They are often held in the shock body with a nut of some description. Gavin

School lane in Hollins Green. They are supposed to be moving sometime around now though. Gavin

Removing them isn't that hard, you need to locate the black box and then strip out all the wires carefully. It is likely that the starter motor, thick red/black and the fuel pump thinish red/yellow will need to be joined back together. I could do one in 30 mins without breaking into a sweat. Gavin

The intercooler pipes on my Passat are different to the Corrado ones. It wouldn't be that hard to make it all work though. You could go with a charge-cooler set up. Gavin
-
gradeA, I have a G60 Passat with aircon fitted. The intercooler is below the battery as per a Corrado. I'll get some pictures in the next couple of days. Gavin

You could probably screw the inserts from a digifant 8V into the manifold and they would fit then. Next you would need to invent a fuel rail and install an ECU capable of running them. No small task really. gavin

Neil, some oil in the pipes IS normal. If it's swimming in oil then there could be some problems. I have not heard of one of the those belts snapping without creating visible external damage. For the belt to have gone and not poked anything out of the side, the displacer must be in tatters. Don't go and hang yourself yet though. Get us/me some pictures. Gavin

Is it on the charger or on the steering pump?
