Check that your local dealer cannot find one in another dealer. I was told last week that VW are trying to get more of these valves made. A reliable scource at VW. The bypass valves stop the matrix from blowing. They do fail and I have had it happen to me. You get hardly any heat in the cabin due to really poor flow thru the matrix. New valves sort it out. You can remove the valves and join up the pipes again. Thing is if 5 year old matrixes were blowing, then one more than 10 years old must be more likely to go. A new improved matrix is about the same money as a valve kit. A swine to fit but if you can't get the valves then it's your only option IMO. You can then bin the valves anyway. Gavin

If you have bent some valves, I have a full set in the garage which I'll split up to sort you out. Chances are you won't have done all of them, get a new belt fitted first and see what happens. Gavin -
After my heater matrix blew last week( Passat, 11days ago). It still steams up overnight and if its frosty you get ice on the inside of the back window. With it being so far from the scource of heat it stays there for ages. The carpets were soaked at the time and I expect tham to take a long while to dry completely. Also, I think you should consider the amount of water you'take' into the car this time of year. Any moisture that is turned to steam will consdense on the coldest window, at the back. It will take a fair while to heat up to the same temp as the windows in the front. I am getting the cabin on the Passat upto furnace temp and then opening a window to let out the moist air. Obviously some nuclear scientist will be on in a minute to point out my incorrect theory. I think that eventually I'll rid myself of the problem though. Gavin

Should be ok but I bet your exhaust manifold is spotless inside!!!! Is your distributor secure, 2 10mm bolts? Sending PM ref the headlight loom Gavin -

You'll be ok if you drive nice and steady. Avoid using high revs and keep the speed down by staying off dual carriageways. I saw this once on a MK2 GTI, we had altered the ign timing when changing the cambelt, it was miles out. It drove really slow cos the timing was so far retarded(like me and my mate!!) that it was igniting the mixture in the manifold.. Gavin -
I look at it by pricing a set of tyres. 4 205/50-15s would be the best part of 200 for Toyos. Any other make would be a bit more than that. I would think that you would be looking around £300-350 for the set depending on the condition of the the tyres. Gavin

Make sure the plugs themselves are clean, especially the ceramic bits. Lift the bonnet if it's dark when the misfire happens. It'll probably look like Blackpool illuminations. You might be able to hear the spark leak too. Gavin

I don't think it's possible to do with the dash in. Taking out the dash is not that bad IMO..It's going to be a most of the day job though. I am glad it went last week and not this, with the state of the weather.. Gavin

do you mean the light comes on?

Ermmmm, maybe :silent:

Mark, If you are not headlight loomed up, ask them about one....and mention the forum. Gavin

Correct. Gavin

I am a very modest person, until drunk, so my head would stay the same. Thanks for the kind words though Andy. Who incidently has been great to deal with. As have all the guys off the forum. Gavin :)

Well, searching the PN on ETKA reveals that pulley is fitted to just about everything with a G60 engine, be it, Rallye, Passat, Golf or Corrado. Unless you can compare it physically with another of a different number or check that yours is different number, I wouldn't bother. Did you check on vortex? There is one that is different I am sure. Gavin

Get the part number off him and post it up, someone will look it up on ETKA. There are different size crank pullies around and I have heard of this mod. You can always check on http://www.vwvortex.com

JBOB, If you are struggling I am pretty sure I have a braided one in the garage. Gavin
-
I would think that may cause bad running if it was leaking. The Golf one will have the same dimesions but it'd need to be a 90 on to have the rubber covering on IIRC. Gavin
-
I think 5X108 is an AUDI fitment. Gavin
-
I heard g-man removed the ABS from the Golf I sold him. Not too difficult to remove all traces of it. I am sure the 'if it's fitted, it has to work ' rule would apply at MOT time. Gavin
-
If you are fitting the original, nothing should have changed. Hook it all up and check it then. The return spring on the pedal will pull the pedal and master cylinder back. Gavin

The 9A can be chipped like any other car. The KR 1800 only has a computer for ign timing. 165 seems pretty optomistic but then an ABF can be chipped from 150 to 175, supposedly. BBR were well respected when I was a nipper. Never dealt with them myself. Gavin

Charger, brakes, suspension, chip n pulley. Unless owt else is broken. Welcome to the forum. Gavin nearly forgot....headlight loom

It should drop in the front no problems. You might have an issue with the hoses not reaching though. Worth trying to fit as the increase in capacity would be useful. Gavin

Having done my matrix, I found tons of water in the footwells. I have a dehumidifier. So I ran an extension lead out to the car and set it going last night. No condensation in my car this morning. I will need to so this a few times I think. I am also driving around with the heater on and no mats to try and dry the carpets out. Gavin

Do you have bypass valves in the hoses to the matrix? They fail and stop the heater working. Could be the flap is stuck in the cold position on the heater box. Gavin
