None of the cars fuses should be capable of disabling your alarm. What make is it? Is there a diagnostic feature to the alarm? This will tell you what is setting it off. You can then work on that. I would start with the bonnet switch. Find it and disconnect it. Next if you have ultrasonics try taping one up. If either of those cure the alarm conditon, you can still use your alarm til you get the immobiliser fitted. Gavin

You know that you have to slide a clip across before you can get the mulitplugs out? That plug letter would make all the difference. The Bentley manual says what each one does and has pictures. Gavin

I made the mistake of filling in the log book too. Otherwise the ticket would have gone to the drug dealer I got the car from! I'll pay the 60quid for her and knock it off the housekeeping. Gavin

Looks like I'll be paying my wifes 60 quid fine from two weeks ago then. I wonder if my Gangsta tint windows would make it harder to prove who the driver was, if I was to go the 'not sure can I have the photo please' route?? Gavin

The red/yellow could be the feed to the fuel pump perhaps. Does it go up and then down behind the carpet towards the sill? Can yopu tell us the plug number/letter? Gavin

Dude if it ran at all even on 2 cylinders, I wouldn't say your ECU is gone. If you get sparks and fuel, even in the wrong amounts and timing.I think you can get this to run again. Make sure you have no air leaks and all vac pipes are on correctly. Especially the 2 on the TB. The top pipe goes to the ECU. Check all the engine earth wires. The ones on the side of the head to the water outlet bolt are favourites for corrosion. The Lamdba probe is another thing that can have drastic effects if not working correctly. Gavin

Get some jump leads and jump it off your new battery until you get it swapped over. You'll be ok til you stall it at some lights!! Gavin

I assume your man is talking about the Alternator/supercharger drive belt. If so I'd have a new one fitted. They fail rarely but you would lose electrical power from the alternator, you would have no boost and I think the water pump is off the same one too, so you would have no water cooling. It would leave you stranded if it went. If you have AA/RAC then I see no reason to not use your car but be wary of going too far from home. The belt is about 20 from GSF and a bit more for a VW one. Prolly about an hour to fit. Gavin

Have you also noticed that the water temp is much lower than before? Mine used to be really low but shoot up when not moving/in traffic. As long as it drops again when the road clears and the fan is not on constantly, there's nothing to worry about. Gavin

Defo the bearing failed or loose then. Gavin

I lost a load of water when I blew the headgasket on my Golf. Most went out the exhaust!! It did a great job of cleaning the pistons tho. I replaced both the plastic outlets as they were dead and the head was out for skimming. When it was all back together I was ready to go home and there was water leaking out of the metal pipe that runs round from the pump to the heater and expansion tank. GUTTED wasn't the word. 'Luckily' :?: it is a dealer only part and not the same as a 16V or digifant mk2. Chuff!! New pipe £35 and alls been well since. Gavin

You can buy it direct from the importer too. Can't remember the site tho. A search should bring it up. I have bought it from Merlin Motorsport at Castle Combe race circuit. Gavin

If the wheel can move about maybe they didn't do the hub nut up. Chances are, if you have done much mileage the new bearing will be toast due to the incorrect loads you have placed on it. Do your brakes feel ok? A slack front bearing can let the disc knock the pads/piston back into the caliper. You would then need to push the pedal further to take up the slack. Gavin

Front or back bearing mate? Can't do a front up too tight but you could on a rear making it fail early. Gavin

Ian Birch did do one on my Passat a few years ago. Thats's prolly the post Ice White Socks is refering to. He knocked the old one out with a hammer and pressed the new one in with the largest vice I have seen outside NASA! It is still going after 5 years so I'd say the method works ok. No tracking also saves 50 quid or so. Gavin

I don't think a Passat front will work. I may be wrong. Only way to tell is get the 2 side by side. Swapping the barrel over is easy enough. Just need to pull off the circlip that holds it in. Stick the key in and shove it out. Refit is reverse etc. I have been messing with my 90 Passat today. No alarm on it yet and both front door handles were bust. Bought a bare one off ebay and discovered that I bust the unlock tab off the old handle when I removed it. Now my car would be dead safe, except it has no locks and no way to lock it.  Got it stashed at the moment and GazzaG60 is the only one on here who knows where I live :!: If you are near Warrington, I can do you alarms for good money. Including Cat 1 etc. Gavin

Only snag I see using the one on the manifold is, does it adequately cover all 4 cylinders??? When I fitted a boss in my MK1 to have a 5th injector(map fueller) fitted. The guy was adamant that it should go after all the cylinders come back together. I put it in after my 4 branch. He stuck a probe in the exhaust while setting up the map fueller. No idea if it was a wideband or not. Personally I'd have it close to the ECUs probe. Gavin

The hall sender is part of the distributor. Best plan for checking that is replace the dissy. You can use one from any digifant Golf, jetta or 1781cc Passat. If you need a part number checking PM me. Gavin

Did the shipment arrive Darren? I haven't checked the tracking number. Gavin

What about the lights :?:   Gavin

Fitters will tell you anything, I bet they had it out in 10 minutes. Also, no need to go routing about for the conections yourself as someone has already done the job for you. Gavin *mod edit - fixed your quote for you - Henny*

I removed, rebuilt and refitted one on my mates Corrado in an afternoon. My second go, after doing my own a month before. I used a hot air stripper for heat. The bearings drop in pretty easy then.. Gavin

I watched Awesome fit the back of a Rallye into a C. Didn't look to be a problem at all really. Gavin

It depends who is fitting the bushes. The poly ones can be done without the aid of a press and therefore without totally removing the axle. I had poly bushes on the back of my Golf and I can't say that I noted any difference in noise. I'd say if you have a non standard exhaust, that would produce more noise than axle bushes. Gavin
