Live near sheffield ? want to make easy money ?
h100vw replied to Andy92's topic in General Car Chat
If you see one this side of the Pennines, I'll take your money if the wife lets me out. Gavin -
Yeah, you can fit a giro valve/check valve or whatever you want to call it. Never noticed a bit of difference when I fitted mine. Gavin

The charger won't stop your battery charging. A new belt is a good idea though. I would makes sure that all the connections between the battery and alternator are clean and tight. The earths need to be checked too. You can check with a multi meter but that won't always show a bad contact. If there is now current flow then resistance won't come into play and show itself by giving high resistance indications. Clean the battery terminals too. I'd carry that starter pack round for a few days.. The fact it keeps cutting out sounds like it could be loose terminals or even a bad hall sender in the distributer? Gavin

It scares me that MYTravel insist on using DC10s still. One just came back from Montego Bay. Should have been in at 06.25, it landed at 10.20 which was an hour earlier than estimated. My mate wants to win the lottery so he can buy them out and shut them down. He is thinking of all the suffering he will prevent in the future. Gavin

Clamp off the pipe to the drivers door. Operate the C/L. If the pax door locks and unlocks OK, there is summat amiss with the drivers door somewhere. Maybe your pump is going duff? Or intermittent. Gavin

Tickover basic settings may need adjusting. Disconnect red/black wire by the coil adjust tickover and timing as req. Reconnect wire. Assuming you are 1800 16V. Nowt you can do to a 2 litre. Gavin

White or White/black. You need to sort the earth too, straight back to the battery That is Brown. DO NOT FOGET TO FUSE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All too easy to set your pride and joy on fire. Don't believe me, ask Swissair! Gavin

I doubt if it was the pair of switches on the TB. It would be pretty awkward to do. Could be a bust wire or something. Also, it would be a good idea to have oa lool on http://www.vwvortex.com they have a good FAQs for common running faults. Gavin

Anybody got a Corrado G60 with a Toad AI606 alarm that works
h100vw replied to Chopper's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
The ultrasonics can play up if the car is hot when you leave it. The convection seems to trigger them. I had that problem with a Passat a couple of years ago. I used to leave a door open for 20 seconds to let the cold air in. No more false alarms. I have not fitted any Toads but they do sound to be a lot of trouble to me. The sudden drain when the fan kicks in could be enough for the alarm to think the power has been cut? Look in the user manual. There should be some way of finding out what is triggering it. Post it up here and maybe we can sort you out. Gavin -
The Northern premises used to be in Brum. Steve is teh first 'Northerner' I have heard of that moved south deliberately! Ducks behind wall. Gavin

Could be a bad closed throttle switch. The ECU doesn't know if it should let the engine rev or not. The switch could be stuck in. The disconnecting the throttle switch hints in that direction. Maybe the full throttle switch is stuck? Break out the DVM. Gavin

27A is no problem. Always better to err on the thick side, than the thin. Except with women? I don't think there should be any need to cut anything. My looms are just a plug in deal. The only tools required are a 10mm spanner and some snips. Gavin

Frostee pm me..........If you are not making your own. Gavin

You would get done at the lights by kids on skateboards! It is done often in the states. You need to get a shorter alternator belt. The intercooler can get full of bits of metal which needs cleaning out before you do more damage. Like you say, getting a good charger is the problem. You could also convert it to a turbo for 1500 quid. Gavin

I have a mount that was modified by Dubsport. I don't know what they do inside. Ian Birch told me they open them up do some messing about and then weld them back up. It was 60quid 3 years ago. I asked him about VT and he sold me this one. It seems well up to the job. About 25K on it now and plenty of trackdays. I have taken a similar MK2 mount apart and modified it myself. There is a rubber block inside which is full of holes. I just filled the holes up with some 6mm rod that I had kicking about. The more holes you fill the stiffer it would get. Vibrations not a problem and very cheap. Gavin

It's a definate maybe! They are 600mm plus in length. They might need different hoses to fit the engine but I don't see why not. Best thing to do is get your self a copy of ETKA and do some research. Gavin

There are loads of different radiators. It would depend on the engine and accessories fitted to the car. For example a VR with Air Con would have a larger rad than one without. I'd leave it alone unless the fan is on all the time. Or maybe you could fit an extar fan in front of teh rad that has an independent thermo switch? A Golf G60 has about the biggest rad going. Gavin

4.54 litres to the gallon. Divide the amount you put in, by 4.54 to give gallons and Bob's your uncle. 45 litres is near enough 10 gallons. Gavin

Kev, MK1s do prime. The pump runs for a couple of seconds after the ign is off. The accumulator does provide pressure for a short while after the ign is off, to help with hot starting. It also damps out fluctuations in pump pressure. I have fitted MK2 fuel pump relays to MK1s in the past to help with hot starting problems. That is a treatment of the symptoms really. There was probably a leaky injector which was allowing the residual pressure to drop. Out of curiosity I just looked at ETKA and there is a lift pump in the late Cabbys. Some of them had digifant engines I think. Gavin

Need advice on rallye lift pump! ETKA software owners needed
h100vw replied to biggerbigben's topic in General Car Chat
Looks like it is the same as all intank lift pumps. Part numbers 357 906 092C or 191 906 098F Gavin -
Down south near Brighton. Worthing. Steve and the crew are very helpful. Need to keep at them sometimes though. Gavin.

I have had a good do with a 106GTI around Oulton Park. He was with me on every corner but I did him pulling away. Maybe he was a bit braver than me? You always seem to go that bit faster on the track, when you have someone to follow/in your sights. That was in my Golf with 68mm pulley and Jabba chip. Personally I'd be careful picking a fight with one. Some of those kids have more money than sense. I saw a VTR at Elvington in the summer with a supercharger on it. The lad couldn't drive too good, fortunately and folded under half a laps' sustained pressure. I could tell the car was quick though. :!: Gavin

I don't know about the dissy but Jabba used to/still do run the G60 ECU on the 20V. A guy I know has one in a Rallye. Gavin

Brake pipes on a car 10 or so years old are going to high on the list of possible failures. As are rear axle bushes and front wishbone bushes. Otherwise most dubs are pretty good at getting thru the test. I have 4 dubs in my stable at the moment, 91 G60 Golf, 93 Passat, 94 MK3 16V and a 90 driver. The Passat and Driver had to have brake pipes in the last 2 months. I expect the G60 to need them this year too. The MK3 seems ok at the moment. Gavin
