  1. That's a little harsh - I think most Corrado owners have cars that need work doing on them - I have a massive List Of Things To Do on mine and keep chipping away at it most weekends, but then it keeps growing as well.
  2. It's slightly grating that VW boast about their heritage on many of their marketing campaigns on the one hand, and then undermine that heritage on the other. On the plus side the local dealer's parts department have always been helpful. And they did let Classic Parts have their old tooling, and re-manufacture old VW parts of OE quality.
  3. I thought you could SORN a vehicle from any date - to SORN from when the tax expires is just the default option? Otherwise how could you be 'legal' if your insurance runs out before your tax, and you don't want to renew? I'm also sure I've SORN'd a car before the tax runs out before, and got money back for the complete months of tax I didn't use.
  4. I've got both (okay the MK2 is just a standard GTI), but if it came to the crunch, the Golf would be the first out of the door. The Corrado, especially the later ones, are a lot more modern and comfortable than the MK2, even though they came from the same era. Corrados are also rarer, look nicer and drive better for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the MK2 (this one is the fifth one I've had), but I'd have the Corrado all day long.
  5. Mapping should be he last thing you do tbh - the map should be perfectly suited to the engine set-up you have. Stealth do do a custom map by the way.
  6. Saw a red Corrado going clockwise on the M60 on Saturday afternoon, near the M67/A57 junction.
  7. I am getting the VR insured on a new policy, and they need a Cat2 immobiliser for the theft cover. My car has a cat 1 laserline alarm, but it was fitted a long time ago, and I never got the installation certificate anyway. They said this isn't a massive problem, and all I need to do is to take it to get an alarm 'health check', and suggested it usually costs about £25. Any idea what this is and where to get it done (anywhere in/near Sheffield)? The laserline is a bit past it anyway, so I probably need a new alarm - though if I can fit a new one myself and get a health check done, then I'd probably rather do that.
  8. Quote from the article... "In addition it suggested that the development would "insulate" motorists from disturbances caused by unnecessary feedback."
  9. There's a guy on the Golf GTI forum with the username Diamond Hell - he lives on IoW and has experience with MK2 ABF conversions.
  10. This is the best way to look at it tbh. IF (big 'if') everything works okay, the Corrado makes a pretty competent winter daily (especially with heated seats :-D ) and is more rugged than people give it credit for. I also find it develops fewer problems being run daily than it does being stored up for a few months.
  11. Parts are Wes's pending payment/collection, will let you know if they're still about next week vag-hag!
  12. I'm trying to de-clutter, and have loads of leftover spares in my shed that I'm never going to use. I don't really have the patience to put it all up on eBay, or sell separately, so I'm offering all this as a job lot at a reduced price. I just want to get rid really... Here's a photo of all the bits I could find - if I can find any more then they'll go too. Here are the main bits: -L and R beige c-pillar trims -Various rear light clusters -VR6 clocks - approx 155-160k mileage. Need new bulbs, some scratches on plastic but otherwise in full working order -Spolier mech - needs a grease -Spoiler - classic green, needs paint -Brand new Valeo heater matrix -2.0 8v PAS pump - off a 2E engine but also used on ADY -heaterbox -Late VR6 handbrake cables - brand new from AVS and still in bag. -2x Koni T/A front struts - one has a leak and needs rebuilding but other is good. Plus the other bits in the pic Looking for £60 collected from S12 Sheffield
  13. If there's nothing you want to swap at the moment, then I would just break or sell. It's false economy keeping hold of loads of parts 'just in case' as you're never going to need all the parts you keep. You just end up having to store loads of parts or the whole car on the off chance they may be needed one day. I'd sell/break the car, and use the money on improving the VR.
  14. Is the air intake boot on top of the airbox/metering head secure? Must be a big vac leak that opens up as the revs increase, and the pressure in the intake builds. The 16v relies primarily on the air pressure in the intake to meter the fuel correctly. I had a similar problem where I had put the boot on slightly wonky, and every time it revved, it would stutter because the gap opened up and the pressure dropped.
  15. I just tell people I want £5k for it, it soon shuts them up.
  16. It was my daily in the past, and is standing in at the moment while my MK2 is off the road. In fact, when the insurance on the Golf expires next month I'm going to put my main policy on the Corrado and use it daily again permanently. I find them very easy to live with as a daily tbh. I'd love to get some winter tyres on the spare speedlines, but funds are a bit tight.
  17. They just said no-one would give a quote for the details i supplied - it was for a daily though. Managed to get a quote from brentacre for 450 quid in the end, which is about half of my other quotes so far.
  18. Gave them a ring and they wouldn't give me a quote.
  19. Any idea where to get these from? There used to be some sellers on eBay, but there aren't any more. I rang VW but they could only find one part number for the bulbs, even though there appear to be two types of bulb (and they quoted me about £7 per bulb, so I don't think they even got that right). Does anyone at least have the part numbers?
  20. Part of the handle mech has broken, common problem - you should be able to find more details if you do a search on here. You'll be needing one of these... http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?10426-Door-handle-repair-kit-THEY-ARE-NOW-AVAILABLE You only need to remove the handle iirc, but it's a bit fiddly.
  21. Not sure this would help as the car jump starts off another battery okay. If the car doesn't start, but it does start with jumper cables, then the battery is dead - the question is whether it's because it can't hold charge (dud battery) or because it's not being charged (dud alternator/charging circuit issue). Another alternative is that it's been stood for a while, and you've got a current drain from somewhere (boot light? alarm? amplifier?), so the battery was drained when he came to start it. As above - check the voltage across the terminals with the engine running to rule out the charging circuit and alternator.
  22. Blue Corrado with Solitudes (poss mystic Storm?) near Hellaby, J1 M18 at about 5pm today. Looked clean but I was a bit too far away to see clearly. First one I've seen in months!
  23. Hope you got it fixed, mine was caused by the interior light fuse blowing, all working now!
  24. 30 years old an had it for nearly 2 years. Nice range of ages on here.
