Just to add, I had a couple of the codes you have and they both disappeared permanently with a couple of flushes of fluid. You can get Eazibleed at Halfords if you're in a pinch, and I'm sure they were a lot less than £60.

Help car a non starter was fixed now back to non starting HELP!!
tony_ack replied to Jon_vr6's topic in Engine Bay
Fuel pump is near-silent on the VR6, all I hear is the click of the relay. Not sure if it applies to a VR6, but on the Golfs I've had, I had a problem with corrosion on one of the wires to the starter, which causes similar symptoms the ones you described. -
I hate car parks!!! - 30th Nov Happy ending update!!
tony_ack replied to g0ldf1ng3r's topic in General Car Chat
If you're parking at work, it's an idea to park next to someone you trust, preferably who shares your appreciation of nice cars, and got a nice car themselves. You're pretty unlikely to bash each other's cars. -
My fuel gauge never reads full even when it is. I thought I was running on vapours before I filled up today, but it only took 60 litres, despite the gauge being in the white line below the red line. I have searched and it looks like the in-tank sender is adjustable. Can it be adjusted in-situ without removing the pump? Any idea how to calibrate it, other than just trial and error?

Modern car headlights... is it just me?
tony_ack replied to Critical_Mass's topic in General Car Chat
Not a massive issue for me, but then I do most of my night driving around town where the darkness/light intensity isn't so great (if that makes sense?). I have noticed there seem to be a lot of cars with genuinely mis-aligned headlights. And I do get an eyeful of searing white light when being followed over speed bumps by something big and wielding xenons. About fog lights... I dont' see quite so many people who use them when not needed any more, but it's gone the other way now and very few people use them when it's pea-soup! -
Another one of my spares I was keeping for a rainy day, but as yet I've not needed it and it doesn't really make sense to hoard it when it may be of use to someone. Again, this was bought off Purple Tom on here. It is a genuine part, and was fitted to a car that Tom broke soon after it was fitted. Start price is really low compared to what I paid for it, especially considering it's only done 5000 miles or so from new, and that they're now obsolete. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261130247838

Thinking of buying an MG TF 160, anyone had one ?
tony_ack replied to daleyboy's topic in General Car Chat
The wife of one of the guys at work had one - he said it was fun, if a little girly, then yep... HG went! -
I think some of us would take the risk at a pinch! The point is valid though - you're effectively buying blind unless you can hear and see it running first. 86k may as well be 186k. VR6 engines, like a lot of Corrado parts actually, are one of those things that people will pay lots of money for if they NEED one and are struggling to find one, but you will struggle to sell if there are no such buyers out there.
-
Yep, it is... as above, I got it from Tom on here, and he still had the invoice from a couple of years ago when it was bought from VW, and it's been in the shed for the last year.
-
Good stuff, already wrapped and I'll post tomorrow, cheers!

Check the wiring between the temp senders, idle valve, thermotime switch and the cold start injector.
-
Could be the in-line fuse that's gone, rather than the relay (assuming your uprated loom has one?)
-
I got this off Purple Tom on here about a year ago, as I had a squeak from my tensioner. It turned out to be a leaky water pump in the end, and the tensioner was fine. I kept hold of this as I was going to swap it over anyway when I fitted aircon, but to be honest I could do with the cash now. Tom still had the invoice from VW when he sold me this - it was off a car he broke which had terminal rot. It hadn't done many miles between this being fitted, and the car being broken. It is a nearly new and genuine part. Low(ish) start price and no reserve, but ends tonight! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261125826984

A trick to get 280mm brakes on MK2 Golfs with smaller alloys was to use the 256mm calipers with 280mm discs and carriers... not sure if that's possible on the Corrado? Should be?? Edit: Here's a relevant thread... http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=192513.0

opinions on a 1.8 16v corrado as a daily driver..?...
tony_ack replied to e30-dk's topic in General Car Chat
Had a 1.8 16v in a Golf as a daily, no real issues, only issues i did have came from 20+ year old wiring. Not too taxing around town though a little thirsty and not much better mpg over a vr6. They do like to be opened up and come alive at about 4500rpm, but arent too bad below that. -
He's on here as well, he used to post in the classifieds...

Must be easy for eBay to spot though?

I've had mixed experiences with this guy... Bought quite a bit of stuff off him when I first got the Corrado, including a passenger door, rub strips, sunroof motor, switches and other stuff I've forgotten about. Met him to collect, seemed a really nice bloke, knowledgeable, appeared to like Corrados, warned me against paying too high prices on eBay, etc. Ended up chatting for well over an hour. One of the bits of trim was broken but he said 'they were all like that' and offered a discount. I was a bit naive back then and only noticed that the door had had paint when I got it home and saw where it had been masked off along the window seal. Under better light I could also see it wasn't perfectly straight and had had a dent pulled out of it (relatively well) in the past. Still, it wasn't in bad nick compared to the old one - not mint as described, but I'd say good condition. Next he was selling some Koni T/As which had only done 'about 10000 miles, tops', so I got him to send them to me. When they arrived they'd obviously done a lot more the 10000 miles as they were all a bit rusty. I fitted them and the car handled like it was on ice and it was a struggle to keep it away from the kerb. I noticed that one of the front shocks was leaking, and had lost loads of fluid. I got in touch with him and he blamed the postal service as it was 'fine when I sent it', and eventually he agreed to send me another one. Time passed and nothing arrived so I rang him this time... think he forgot he'd given me his number from the first time I'd met him, and he was a bit surprised to hear from me. He made some excuse up about waiting for his mate to come back from somewhere or something, and he would sort it next week. I gave up and did what I should have done the first time round- I bought a completely new set of 4 Koni T/As from Larkspeed. The replacement never did arrive, and he was never to be heard of again.

I really like the red display on the clocks. That said, I have all green dials and switches currently and I'm planning to swap the Climatronic control unit for one out of an Octavia, which has green buttons and lighting.
-
Centre console and fixings may be worth something. As for the dash itself - I couldn't give a late one away and ended up taking it to the tip.
-
I'll third this... compressor broke before it was even used, cables don't fit properly and last time I used it I just couldn't get it to connect. Workshop light is okay though so it makes a very expensive and heavy torch now.
-
I had this... I fitted the wrong bulbs. The ones behind the clock/computer are 12v 1.1w/1.2w The three above the dials are 12v 1.8w I had fitted 1.2w bulbs throughout and the dials were really dim. Picked up some 1.8w bulbs from veedubmachine (VW were too pricey) and they're bright again now.

GSF used to do a Valeo matrix, not sure if they still do? Think it's listed as the 'Premium' option.

I get similar long-term mpg on the VR as my missus gets on her 16v MK2, though not sure if that says more about our driving styles than the cars themselves! Having come from MK2s myself, I've found that the VR is harder to work on due to less space under the bonnet and it does have slightly more to go wrong. Service parts - and parts in general - are a bit more expensive too. As a daily, it's great in summer, in winter it can get annoying sometimes when you get various niggles, though once everything is working and all the rattles are gone it's very easy to live with. Reliability-wise, I've had problems with the crank sensor and immobiliser, but otherwise she's always started and run fine.

You'll struggle to get two pushchairs in the boot - one pram should fit in as long as it's a four-wheeler, not a three-wheeler, stroller is no problem, but both isn't going to happen unless perhaps you remove the parcel shelf. Weekends away will cause problems as you just won't have the room to carry all of you and everything you need. ICE is going to be a struggle. You should still be able to squeeze an amp in, but the sub will have to go unless you get one of those Blaupunkt ones that goes in the spare wheel well. Realistically, you probably won't all be in the same car very often, so you'll probably find that the baby seat can go in the front when you haven't got a passenger. The Corrado may be roomier in the back than most coupes but you'll still find that the front seats are still within easy kicking distance of a 2/3 year old. Also the rear seatbelts are a bit weird in the Corrado as they come out of the rear door card rather than being anchored behind the seat - not all car seats can accommodate this.
