  1. G-plated red Corrado coming the other way on bramhall lane, davenport on tuesday afternoon at about 16:45 We both managed to flash & wave for once! :)
  2. Cheers for all the different opinions - it puts it into perspective! I like the idea of insuring another car over the winter months, but then I haven't got a garage to safely stow away the C. It probably won't be worth it as when I start my new job its only 20miles a day, 99% of that is motorway, as opposed to doing 40miles a day mainly on B-roads in my current job.... add to that I move into my first house in a couple of weeks and will be mortgaged up to the hilt :( If I do get one at some point in the future it would probably be best to get something simple, small engined and low on tax - I just know if I got a mk2 GTI again I would end up modifying it - The slipperly slope that we all know about ! At least the girlfriend has got a sensible, low milage car that (I hope  ) we can use for shopping trips and long journeys down south etc, if I can convince her that it will save me, ahem, I mean 'us' some money! :)
  3. Who runs a second car for commuting to work etc? Last night I saw a quite a tidy looking mk2 GTI on a G-plate, mint interior, dent on door, only 81k on clock! lowered on very nice polo alloys, was only £550 o.n.o , got me thinking..... The main sting would be the insurance, Is there a good/cheap way to insure 2 cars on the same policy or something? (Corrado on limited milage, golf for 20mile a day commute) My G60 Is currently insured with brentacre for £630 TPFT. I'd love to have a second car to keep the miles down on the corrado, but I'm not made of money and I'm not sure if I could justify it, only doing 100 miles a week travelling to work! Would I be better off looking for something with lower insurance/better MPG? Any advice would be great....
  4. just tripped over 92,000 and doesn't seem to burn any oil 8)
  5. Car all sorted now 8) running like a dream. Replaced the lambda probe (was 12 years old) and renewed the 1 metre long ECU to Throttle body vacuum hose (was very flimsy at the TB end, measured 990mm (shrinkage?) also had wear patches all over it! Also wired an additional earth from the lambda earthing point on the rear engine mount, up to the stud on the suspension tower that the ABS wheel sensor plug mounts to using 36amp cable - now getting 0.2 ohms resistance on the earth circuit as opposed to 1.3 ohms through the rear engine bracket. It looks neat and and almost stock! Guess I betterstart to renew/clean all the major earth straps/points :?
  6. Got mine ordered too :-P the lads at Audioscape say get your order placed if you haven't already! If you don't know what size holes you need cutting or find it tricky to measure, give them your speaker model number and the chances are they will know the diameter for a perfect fit 8)
  7. Perhaps they internally modified the matrix, and now supply the improved matrix for *all* model years? That would seem a little sensible for VW, but there you go![/quote:7311c] Yeah they must of done, but without changing the part number! makes it difficult to find out whether you have a good 'un or a bad 'un.....
  8. Can't say I've seen you, whereabouts in manchester are you? you might see/hear me driving about in stretford/gorton/blackley! Andy
  9. Saw a metallic green C tonight on Councillor lane, Cheadle. Only saw it at the last min so didn't see much, think it was an M Reg... I was in my Red G60, for a change!
  10. Cheers, hope my glass rattles are as easy to fix! Me and my dad agree that the best 'VW door clunk' sound was our '85 polo saloon  the mk2, corrado & mk4 polo have never quite lived up to it!!
  11. Thats interesting, i've also heard that the later cars ('92-on) might of been fitted with the mk3 golf matrix, which is stronger/uprated, and didn't need any kind of safety valving.... Just had a quick look on etka, there was some change to the heating system on 1992-93, but the part number for the matrix is the same for all years - 1H2 819 031 A (RHD) Checked the mk3 golf, again it uses the same part number as above for all model years! :?:
  12. Looks good kev 8) how much is the foam sheet from VW, and how thick is it? last time I used extra thick laminate floor underlay foam, works well. I can't wait to get rid of the rattles/tinniness in my doors, even just operating the outside door handle makes an awful sound :( Does/did your window glass rattle in the door at all, any tips on how to fix it?
  13. Thats a brilliant idea, think I might get some of the B&Q stuff for doing the panels behind the door card. I've already got a couple of cans of dynamat spray for doing in the awkward bits in the door, like the inside of the door skin and the base, made a hell of a difference to road noise/sound quality in my mk2 :)
  14. Just had a thought, if we struggle to get a tenth person, we could all chip in to buy the 10th set, then sell it on ebay for a profit
  15. if parts of the laquer are loose/blistering, try and remove it carefully, then use a touch up laquer to seal the gaps and stop the peeling getting worse - it will look better and will last quite a while if you do it right. I've seen a few corrado's with what i'm sure is original paintwork, and the laquer is peeling off in various places - scary really
  16. Now up for sale, here's the link - http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13414
  17. Wow they look even better than the mk2 golf ones I had, and they were faultless! 8) I'll have my speaker holes cut to Ø148mm please if you want to add it to the list :D
  18. yeah the standard one that seems to hold the leather gaiter on a collar...
  19. This might sound like a daft question, but how do you remove it? I've tried to unscrew it but it won't budge at all and I don't want to break it! Has anyone shortened their gearstick, and can it be done 'a la mk2 golf' by cutting the thread further down then chopping the top off? cheers
  20. Cheers. Just noticed that Euro car parts sell a lambda probe tester for £17, not sure how it works though or if the probe has to be on the car and working or not. After 200 miles of driving with no lambda sensor, i'm getting 35mpg instead of the usual 28/29! so maybe it was due for replacement anyway...
  21. I checked for 12v across the heater wires and it was okay, but I didn't check for the signal voltage and its off the car now. Is it worth just plugging it in to check this or will I get duff readings from atmosphere!? I think i'm going to replace the probe anyway with a genuine item and also replace the ECU to TB hose, hopefully it will be okay then!
  22. Kevin, Just black finish with late EW slots please, holes cut for 6.5" (i've already got speakers to go in) Cheers, Andy
  23. you probably done the best thing, a few mates of mine (not vw owners) have had lambda probes replaced my garages at £80-100 + labour, and they have only lasted 10-15k miles! I think the cheap ones are made out of inferior metal, probably not cost effective in the long run!
  24. Did some more circuit testing today - Most of the readings were as expected, but not sure about the purple wire on the loom side - e.g. Probe side -____White l White l Brown l Black Loom side -____Red/White l Brown l Black l Purple Red/White & Brown had good continuity to earth, black had none, and purple had just 3volts (was using 12v tester) ?? I've read that the purple wire sends the signal to the ECU, so should it have a poor continuity to earth, if one at all ???? also the loom earthing point on the engine bracket had about 1.4ohm resistance when measured from the battery negative, is that ok? (the engine block & cyl. head had the same resistance) Next I removed the Lambda probe from the cat (cheers VW for making it so bloody hard to get a spanner on!!) the probe part was pretty black. It was a proper VAG unit and the correct part number, stamped 05/92 (date of manufacture?) it looks like it could be the original unit but it is cleaner on the outside than I expected? The wiring was all good, no breaks or damage to the insulation/alu hose. I also checked out the braided ECU hose to the inlet manifold. it looked ok, it had been rubbing on the soft silver coloured wiring protection on the bulkhead a little bit but I don't think it had worn through the braiding. Any idea's? shall I get a new lambda probe on it first, or will it get damaged it if it turns out to be another problem? Cheers and sorry for the waffle!
  25. The pics aren't that good but here's the official website - Take it from me they look and sound amazing... http://http://www.audioscapedirect.co.uk/catal ... ucts_id=65
