  1. Cheers Guys. I've just noticed today that one of the front wheels is a 6" rim, and the other is a 7" !! wish i'd checked them properly before I handed over the cash, i just looked at the tyre sizes and saw an 8" rim & a 7"..... :( I will probably try and trade in the 6" & 7" for 8's at a place local to me that has lots of odd sized porker rims...... or just get another 7" rim.... :?: don't suppose you want an odd sized pair g-man?? Yup I'll be selling the BBS RXII's regretfully, I need to raise some cash hence why I bought some tatty old wheels as a project.... The RXII's are still as mint as the day I bought them 8)
  2. Just got myself a set of Design 90's which are 7" upfront and 8" at the back 8) I could also easily obtain another pair of 8's to put on on the front, what do you guys recommend, would I be better sticking with 7" at the front? With H&R spacers they'll be on a lowish offset of about 27mm aswell, will I ruin the steering feel/handling with 8" up front? I used to have 7.5" rims on a ET33 offset on my mk2 with no handling problems, but will I get bump steer with 8's? :? Cheers
  3. yeah it looks the business :) what do 8" rims feel like to drive on up front?
  4. ok, cool, what size/type of locking wheel bolt do you need though, can you use your original M12 x1.5 VW ones? Cheers,
  5. tbh.......going by the above guide and the fact that early rhd C VR's also had the early interior.....the "G60" you test drove has either been retro-fitted with the later dash/door cards or is a later interior facelifted C with a G60 transplant :?: Possible I guess, but it was an absolutely standard car apart from the wheels, all the interior was late spec and didn't look like it had been messed with in anyway. Engine bay looked very stock too, maybe it was built on the 'changeover period' ? So why didn't I buy said car? Because the dodgy Clifford CAT1 shut the windows and locked me in the car on a scorching summer day, then sounded the alarm, I was trapped in the car for about 10 minutes while the seller found a battery for the spare alarm fob!
  6. What size wheel bolts do you use with the H&R adaptors, are they supplied with any? do porsche wheels have a taper or radius seat? cheers,
  7. I wouldnt say it was confused, more progressive? they changed the bonnet/wings etc. to the new style first (for the VR6's) then cosmetically upgraded the interior later on. Brooksy, before I bought my current car I test drove at K plate (or was it L?) G60 that had a late dashboard/doorcards! I wonder how few there are like that?? You missed one thing that I can see - the revised interior door handles, that house the mirror switch on the drivers side, eliminating the square buttoned passat item at the top of the 'early' doorcard.
  8. 68mm will be the diameter the belt runs on. I've got a jabba 68mm pulley, yeah they look crap, silver painted steel thats going rusty... I keep meaning to sort it out!
  9. My C passed its MOT yesterday 8) but only just! They say the handbrake is low effort, only just scraped throught the test at 16% Guess its gonna be the rear calipers? the handbrake mech seems fine itself and doesnt come up too high or anything. The arm on the both calipers thats operated by the cable seems to move ok, could it be this thats just partially seized or tight? It's a March '92 built G60 so does it have mk2 calipers or late mk3 items? I've had a look at other threads regarding this, but whats the best way to fix them, should I take the calipers off and strip them down, or would a squirt of oil do the trick? I don't want to fork out for new rear calipers, just yet. The rear brakes themselves work fine, no sticking or seizure or anything. I've got a rear wheel bearing starting to go aswell, noisy drilled discs and unknown pads, so should I just go for it and change the bearings, disks, pads and repair the calipers off the car? I'm sure that if I leave it , they will fail next MOT! Cheers.
  10. Cheers, now I know! So does that mean you cant have a auto boot light with an aftermarket alarm?
  11. Just got an interior boot light & bulb, as it never had one when i bought it. problem is, it doesnt seem to turn off when I close the hatch - where is the plunger switch on the tasilgate? I can't find one anywhere! Cheers,
  12. I got a £6 G-Clamp and a small piece of wood for winding the caliper pistons back in, pretty uselful tool to have around for other jobs too!
  13. Sometimes when I come to a stop, the engine speed drops nicely to 850rpm as it should, but a few secs later I can feel some lumpiness in the engine, like fairly quick pulses felt through the car, but the rev counter doesnt move because it happens that fast. It lasts for about 5 seconds, then its ok, but if i'm stood for a while It might start again. Could it be running on 3 cylinders for a split second or something like that? exhaust noise doesnt change and there's no misfire or anything. Wierd :? I'm probably worrying about nothing!
  14. Does sound very much like the door membrane behind the door trim, needs to be absolutley watertight along the bottom edge. Worth checking if the drainage holes along the bottom of the door are clear too.
  15. No, brake light never came on for me. Bleeding the clutch does seem to restore it for a few weeks/months, but then it would fail again, usually after a long journey(probably when the cylinders have got really warm)
  16. I know, I know  previous owner had bad taste, but pleased to say its the only ugly thing left, rest of the shitty badges/stickers/wheels/exhaust/lairy induction kit has been binned! 8)
  17. Just to update, it worked ok for a bit, then seriously died again. Must be the Master Cylinder after all! I bought one (£99.99 inc. vat) from VW as both GSF &ECP no longer sell it. Hopefully when It gets fitted it will solve the problem!
  18. Yeah I never thought of it like that, it does seem a daft thing to put on as they were built at the Karmann factory :? It looks a bit like a stuck-on badge, if I pull it off, the VW sign might be underneath it! As the car has no VW badges on at all at the moment, the kids on our road can't decide whether it's a Merc, Ferrari or a Porsche!!!
  19. They were like that when I got the car mate, they look a really good job though. They have the Hella markings on, but all the back lights are red(!) so they must of been tinted. Looks like a bodyshop job, because its a very smooth glossy finish, doesnt look painted at all. I can't get my indicators to flash orange, even with orange bulbs, so I have a std set for MOT. So far, I've not been pulled for having red indicators 8) Like Furki says, Foliatec tint would be better, because it lets the proper colour shine though. The spray finish is a bit rough but if you give it a few coats of laquer you should get a nice finish :D
  20. yeah it is, it was on the car when I bought it! You should of seen it when I first got it - It had a F.U.K badge on the left, and on the right, the 'supercharged g60' badges had been prised off(scratching the paint) then replaced with a square G60 badge(mk2 16v style) and a tiny white 'supercharged' logo. It looked so crap. :x I've got the standard 'supercharged, g60' to put on it, just not got round to it. I Didn't think the wolfsburg edition badge looked too bad, how much would a new VW badge cost me? Cheers
  21. Long time coming pic of the back end, lol. Just fitted new exhaust, the lack of badges (Corra?) is another half finshed job!
  22. Cheers lads, yeah I woke up in the morning and thought, oh no I've gotta do that exhaust today! Here's a a nice overexposed pic of the finished article!!
  23. Just to carry on from what Steveo29 said, if the ball joints are not set at the correct distance, it will put too much pressure on the inner CV's, and gearbox output flanges, which could also cause a gearbox leak... Might be worth getting that distance checked out..
  24. Job done on my own without any help! Back end up on axle stands, front wheels on 4" timber. The old exhaust clamps were seized so had to be cut off with an angle grinder, but after that the old system came off easy. The new system went on fairly easily with the assistance of a few empty paint pots to support the cat, I was lucky that the new system was well made and the pipes slotted together very easily, even though it's a very heavy ststem! The hanger bars lined up ok with the new VAG rubber mounts/brackets and was easy enough to mount, but wasn't a perfect fit to start with. I had to use a few washers on the middle hanger bracket to get the height right, and had to mod the rear hanger a little to get the 5x3" oval tail exactly centred in the bumper cutout. I'm well pleased with the overall result, it doesn't rattle, hiss or bang and hasn't fallen off yet :D It sounds great, fairly quiet at idle and when cruising, developing into a nice throaty sound on acceleration, but not too loud 8) It also seems to of eradicated the vibration that occured at certain revs, and the manic popping on overun that the old exhaust suffered. It took me 3 1/2 hours and I ache like fook today, but at least I saved some cash and know that its been fitted properly. I will post some pics later on, such an improvement from the bad boy bean-can tailpipe!
