  1. Thought the Dizzy on Digifant engines was just the basic ref. setting, and that the knock sensor/ECU overrides theit anyway? i.e if its within a few degrees of the base setting, theres no point in adjusting it :?:
  2. I get a bit of rotational play(knock) in the steering at low speed - when driving over rough ground, or slowly driving over big potholes. When cruising, or driving hard it is totally fine (supension/wheel alignment is spot on) Could this be due to the rack ball joints, or more likely the rack itself? The rack was changed about 35k ago by previous owner (VAG dealer diagnosed 'play' in steering column at 50k) I think the rack was a refurb item as the part only cost £120! Cheers
  3. Check that the rear springs extend fully and are not loose when the back wheels are off the ground. My original(?) rear springs were badly corroded and had lost their elasticity after 85k miles, would not of got through an MOT! Not sure if they were the original items, but they were standard height and were mounted on the original factory shocks! Worth checking.
  4. I know exactly what you mean, my G60 does it occasionally. It's either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder, nothing much to worry about yet unless the clutch won't return properly or ends up stuck on the floor. Sounds like you've got bigger things to worry about at the moment!

    G60 query

The G60 (I think) has a bigger, more powerful fan than the 16v. Not sure if a G60 fan housing would fit a 16v rad anyone know?
  6. Dark Blue M Plate VR6 parked a couple of spaces down from me at White City Retail park in Old Trafford on saturday afternoon- Pretty standard apart from suspension but very very clean...put mine to shame!!
  7. Cheers for the advice. I was having a look at it the other night, and it doesn't look like a straight fit! The hanger for the rear box at the tailpipe end doesn't look to be quite in the right place, so I'm going to have to modify the bracket that the moulded rubber hangs from. So that rules out taking it to a fast fit place as it might end up costing £££, either that or they'll refuse to fit it!
  8. Might seem a daft question, but is there a torque setting for exhaust pipe clamps? Just that i've seen exhaust fitters break them by overdoing it in the past, but on the other hand I don't want the exhaust to fall off! Is it just a case of self gauging it using a foot long ratchet handle (I don't have any air tools) Cheers
  9. Yeah powerflex bushes are good, properly engineered kit, I just don't like Bugpack stuff it's cheap (but alright for aircooled vw's that don't handle anyway) Powerflex claim they don't increase noise/vibration over standard bushes, but they do, especially when combined with uprated springs/shocks/engine mounts/low profile tyres, it becomes really noticeable. Just depends how far you go and whether you mind a harsher ride/feel. I definately would not use aftermarket/poly bushes in the rear axle of corrado's/golfs with passive rear wheel steer, it's going to spoil the handling. Even in this months PVW magazine, Mr Wotsit from Awesome GTI advises that poly axle bushes can be fitted instead of OE items, and that they will increase rear tyre wear(as if its a plus point!!) IMHO some parts of VW engineering just shouldn't be messed with
  10. Which bushes are shot? Bugpack = cheap shite upgrades for beetles and the like, don't bother, just get quality standard bushes :) AVS are great, good prices and quality parts :)
  11. When I first had problems with my ABS, the light stayed on all the time, i.e it didn't go out after a few seconds after startup. This was due to a knackered wheel sensor. When it was replaced, the light went out after startup, then would come on later in the journey (due to a bad connection) So I think you can eliminate a wheel sensor problem, because the if the light goes out initially it must of tested the wheel sensor circuit (?)
  12. Does the ABS perform the self test a few seconds after pulling away? You should hear the pump valves operating and a slight vibration through the pedal. Does the warning light coming on coincide with this? I had a very similar problem, turned out to be the power cable to the battery had rattled loose on the terminal.
  13. If it is airlocks, the garage should of made sure they got them all out first before handing over the car! Did they drive it after such a big job to make sure everything is ok??
  14. I'm definately up for a set at 10+, probably even at 5+ Have we got enough ppl now? my mini-sub alpine components have been collecting dust for nearly a year!
  15. Euro car parts still list 'Bilstein' shocks for the C, but when they arrive they are BOGE items! I tried 3 times and the result was always the same. http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk sells Bilstein OE shocks at a price cheaper than ECP, mail order. I thought VR6 top mounts are more comfortable than the 4 cyl. top mounts, but that the suspension will sit 10mm higher?? I got the 4cyl. top mounts from GSF for my G60, and they were exactly the same genuine part as the original factory items :)
  16. Cheers for that advice, I rang round a few dealers in my area. None of them had the part in stock but I found a friendlier dealer that could get me the part next day, and the price was only £6 more than what GSF used to charge :) :D
  17. C has died on me again, clutch pedal is on the floor. Slave Cyl. was renewed 2 months ago, but where can I get a new Master Cylinder from? EuroCP and G&S have both discontinued it (and for the passat!) GPC & RMS don't sell them, and my Local VW dealer will have to special order one which could take a week!! I've tried AVS too, is there anywhere else I could try?? Breakers yard is my last resort, don't really want to fit an old part which could be on its way out too! Cheers for any suggestions!
  18. Saw a Red 16v on Chester Road in Stretford, Manchester on saturday, I was passing the other way, I beeped but you were on your phone at the lights so only noticed me as I'd passed. Also saw a really tidy bright red G plater parked up at a new house off Victoria Avenue, Blackley, Manchester (I've just bought a house only round the corner from you!) My girlfriend reckon's they'll be a showdown as to who can keep their Red C the shiniest !! 8)
  19. It is quite loud, very noticeable from inside of the car anyway, and thats even with a loud exhaust! Can feel it through the pedals slightly.
  20. This noise is the ABS self-test. Read your Corrado manual! ;)[/quote:20d11] Cheers! Restarted the car last night on the way home, and sure enough it did it again when pulling away. Nobody else was sure what the noise was either! It is an annoying noise though, not very cool when pulling out of the pub car park ;) but at least I can stop worrying about it :) Checked my Jan '92 Manual again and there is no mention of this noise in the ABS/braking section, maybe it was only added to the later manuals?
  21. What symptoms did you get with a sticky release bearing? I get a crunch sound a few seconds after pulling away, if the car's been stood a few hours or even only 15 minutes!, sounds like something sticking then releasing, release bearing maybe? Recently replaced a leaky slave cylinder too. Cheers Pal.
  22. Cheers for the advice. Hopefully the old one should come off okay as it's stainless steel and has been off the car about six months ago. But yes, i'll have my slinging gloves/hammer/mallet/angle grinder at the ready if it won't play nicely!
  23. £10 I wish! £70 i've been quoted by a powerflow dealer, and I can't/won't take it to a fastfit place after various bad experiences with them in the past! Gonna have a go at taking the old one off at least, because i'm selling it and would struggle to get it home in the car because it's a two piece system. I've got to replace all the hanger brackets/rubbers aswell because they were replaced with crappy little things to suit the current exhaust, so maybe that will make things easier as I could attach the hangers to the exhaust then lift and bolt it into place. Wish me luck !! Cheers
  24. Exactly, hence why they crack under extreme use. Its a bit like running really small brakes, 215mm instead of 280's! Do you know who makes them? I couldnt find a logo on them at all....
  25. Just bought a second hand exhaust for my G60. It's a Cat-back Custom stainless system in 3 sections, which should be a straight fit. I'm thinking about having a go fitting it myself to save some cash, any advice? I don't have access to ramps or a pit, so I'll have to make do with having the front wheels sat on a couple of paving stones, and the back end up on axle stands. Time isn't an issue, but will I have enough room? Or should I just give in and pay an exhaust fitter to do it! cheers,
