That's weird, when I asked my local VW garage a couple of months ago they said they were obsolete. I'll try again. I did just buy some for the Golf and ther were only £25 from VW so £55 is quite a mark up.

When I was looking for hosting last year I was recommended to use http://www.tsohost.com by quite a few people. I did register a domain with them but haven't used them for actual hosting yet. However I called them recently about a renewal problem and they answered promptly and gave good service.

I can't offer any advise but just wanted to say this is **** and typical of the youth today. I have two young kids myself and if either of them grew up to do this I'd be paying for the damage, then giving them an old skool clip around the ear and making them pay recompense in some way. These kids have obviously not be brought up right. Mine are taught to respect people and property. Hope you get it sorted. When you get a price for a windscreen replacement would you mind dropping it on here as I have a few chips in mine and may think about replacing it. Thanks.

Same here (although no heated seats). I drive everywhere with the roof open, however cold it is. The heaters are great in the Corrado. I would like heated seats though. I have them in the Golf and they are lovely when it's cold outside. I'm half tempted to retrofit some heating elements into them.

VR6 Pocket Mechanic - Now that wasn't what I expected :)
Portent replied to Portent's topic in Ebay and Misc
Yes I have the Bentley manual too. But I was expecting this pocket one to be a little more basic and with step by step instuctions on general servicing. But it was actually the opposite :) StueyB - I'll keep it in mind. I'd pretty much decided to keep it if for no other reason than building up a history of the car and anything related to Corrado's/VR6's for any future owner. But you can still buy them from Amazon. -
I just bought one of these, wanting to do some very basic work such as servicing etc: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pocket-Mechanic-Volkswagen-Engine-Alhambra/dp/1898780811/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322526335&sr=8-1 It arrived today and it seems far more geared to a semi-pro who wants to overhaul the whole engine. Not quite what I was expecting. It might be useful for some of you more advanced people...

Hmmm that's true. But I'd assumed the weight rating meant it could only safely be used on cars of that weight or less. I told you I was a novice :)

Personally I think the membership cost is worth it. It's worth it for the slight insurance discount alone. It's worth it for the Sprinter mags alone. It's certainly worth it to park on a club stand. I did that once this year (GTI Inters) and as it was my first year of Corrado ownership I did feel a bit nervous but at the end of the day it means you get to park with other Corrado owners in the middle of the show. In fact I actually joined CCGB a year before I bought my car for those reasons. In my previous post I offered some of my time to help. Then I edited it out again because I doubt I could offer the kind of time needed. But I'd really hate to see CCGB decline. It definitely helps the marque to have a central club organising meets. So while my time would be limited, I'd also be happy to offer some assistance in general admin etc. A question - is the membership process very manually intensive? Couldn't it be semi-automated where you sign-up, pay online with Paypal, then receive an automated email with your renewal/membership number? Then once a quarter (or even once a year) the stickers etc could be sent out. At least that way people can join at any time, they get notified of their membership number almost immediately, and don't have to wonder what's happening. I also think that greater use of email may help; e.g. emailing members asking for Sprinter articles, or emailing them to advise of upcoming events and club stands. I'm not a web developer unfortunately but my background is in IT so it just seems obvious to me that greater use of technology may help here. But please keep Sprinter a real magazine :)

That Clarke from machinemart jack does look good. But unfortunately while it's fine for the Corrado it may be a problem with the Golf (1.4+ tonnes).

Thanks for the suggestions. They will only be for occasional use; mostly removing a wheel or doing a service. I don't yet know enough to do serious work on the car so anything major would still need to be sent to a proper garage. But once I start doing my own work on the Corrado then I'll probably also start maintaining the Golf too. So I guess I'd use them 5 to 10 times per year max. I've heard mixed things about the Halfords jacks so will probably look at one of the others recommended.

Right... I have a list of things to do on the Corrado. My original plan was for my brother to help me with them as he has access to garage facilities and, unlike me, knows one end of a spanner from another. Unfortunately through circumstance it hasn't been possible to get up to him recently (I've been ill and now he's got a new job and may be offshore for a while). So I think I need to start learning and just get on with it in spring when the weather returns. Long story short... I need a jack and axle stands. Budget around £100 to £150 (less would be good). Any recommendations?

There's a few things I want to get done. I normally get my Golf done at a superb place in Epping. Bu they are indeed expensicve and a bit of a drive away from me now. So does anyone have any recommendations in Surrey?

Personally I think a merger of CCGB and the Forum is the way forward but I understand that has been discussed before my time and it wasn't a realistic prospect in the past. so let's look at what each side does well: Forum Great community Great forum Great knowledge base CCGB Potential discounts on insurance (because being a car club member can lower premiums with some insurers) Club stands at some events Sprinter mag delivered to your door (in an internet age I still loved getting the mag through my door in the summer) So they do offer different, but complimentary, things. I'm a member of both and am happy to keep paying my annual CCGB subscription for the reasons above. I also pay a small monthly sub to the forum as I also consider it more of a club than a forum. It does make sense to me for them to be merged. But I also appreciate that it's unlikely to happen as both 'sides' have put a lot of effort into it and I guess they wouldn't want to see it diluted. So, on the asumption that they won't merge then I still definitely want both to continue and they should concentrate on their strengths.

I've got a whole bunch of spare relays from someone who broke their car. And I'm only about 40 mins from Farnborough so if you find its a relay then I may have the one you need. Floppyman should have my mobile from when he changed my gearbox oil. I will pm it to you too. Also have a spare MAF but I doubt its that. So tempted to come and spectate but really don't have the time.
-
No idea on value but I like that a lot. The rallye half leather is quite sought after. But if you buy it then you have effectively just swapped a corrado for it.
-
My kids love mine too. They know it's not the best car in the world compared to a lot of the neighbours. But they adore being passengers in it for some reason. The other day when I got into the Golf with them I joked about selling the Corrado to pay for a holiday (we've not been away for years). They both almost broke down in tears and my 7 year old daughter actually jumped out of the car and spread herself over the Corrado bonnet pleading me not to sell it. My wife still doesn't understand why we all love it. I think I may have to file for a divorce :)
-
I must admit mine cheers me up no end. My heart skips a beat when I get into it for the first time after a break. And following a bit of a health issue recently I always make a point of taking the Corrado to the hospital for my appointments. It turns a crap day into a good one :)

There was a lovely grey G reg parked in Claygate this morning at 9:15. I was pretty surprised as it was parked in the road next to mine. It's great how they stand out from the crowd so much and look so different to anything else around nowadays.

I absolutely adore my cloth recaros. You know you want to get them :)

2012 Corrado Forum Calendar! - All Over For Another Year!
Portent replied to _Meth's topic in General Car Chat
Roughly how much is it likely to be? -
Out of those I'd take the 1M. The brakes on my old mk2 Scirocco GTX were absolutely shocking (and it was a relatively new car at the time). Mind you I think it taught me how to drive properly and anticipate other drivers because I knew I couldn't rely on the brakes alone to keep me out of trouble.

I couldn't see this anywhere so... Promo code: WINTER25

Some nice history there :)
