It could be a simple and easy fix , let the forum know how you get on , as it helps people with similar problems when they use the search .

You dont say if you have done any tests yet . Have you got a spark , have you got fuel ?. Why the crank sensor ?, if you have had it on a vagcom and the sensor came up , its because it will always come up as a fault without the engine running . I have exactly the same issues atm , and its very frustrating . Ive exhausted all the usual suspects , so i put it in a garage for them to check it . The fuel bar pressure was fine but they said the fuel regulator had gone , with a new one on it ran for two weeks then back to the same non starter , same as you . I broke down got towed back , left it till the morning and its started every time ,first time since . The only thing i have done is put some redex in the fuel because of whats going on with morrisons fuel atm . Ive changed the pump as well . Ihad this problem about two years back as well , i put on a new dizzy , spark plugs , hallsender , cleaned every ignition plug , cleaned all the throttle body and isv , checked for splits and holes in any hoses around the maff and throttle body . Nothing came up on the vagcom it was free of faults .Also had loads of checks to do with a multimeter[thanks to the late great Chris RW1] After all this it would not start , we had a fag and a tea , me mate said go on , one more try and it started !!.Now two years later i am in the same position as you , I am now waiting until it will not start again so i can check the pump to see if its got an intermitant problem , if thats ok i will change the filter even though its done very low milage as there could be a bit of crap floating around somewhere obstructing the fuel line . Finaly i have some new ht leads to go on as mine are corroded . As said start at the basics ,spark and fuel . Rob

I need to fix one of the pipes that sits on top of the new Bosch pump , does anyone know of a product that won't dissolve in petrol ? Thanks Rob .

Little up date , the VR has started every time in the past few days , I'm thinking I'm going to wait till it doesn't start then check the flow from the pump and change the filter . Just updating for future reference for the search . Rob Edit Been out in the car today , against my better judgement as it could have broken down again , but it was fine , went out again to drop the kids back to their mums ,again no problems .

From what I read on the piston heads site I will be staying away from m's from now on.

Does not sound good does it , i always used shell vpower ,but they closed it down in our area , will be looking for my nearest esso now .

Just been having a conversation on here regarding morrisons fuel , I've just googled it and there seems to be a problem in the southwest mostly , now I'm only saying what I have read, when I googled morrisons cutting there fuel with bio fuel and it's effecting cars that are 10 years and older . Have a look and see what you think mate . Considering the problems I'm having it was suggested to put some additive in and change the filter , I had put some in when I filled up , have started my Vr every four hours first turn of the key today , not saying I've sorted the problem , but I will not be filling up at morrisons anymore . Thanks for this info . I have just googled this and it seems the southwest has a serious problem with this . A geezer with a mk1 gti had bad running problems ,changed from morrisons and sorted the problem . Now im not saying this is my problem but im glad i put the redex in , will do other tests as well obviously . Thanks again , Sorry i seemed to have hi jacked your build thread . Rob

Going to do some digging tomorrow , i tried this morning and it fired first time , did a mornings work ,came home , started first time and the same after another four hours . The filter and fuel pump need looking at me thinks . Im up for a meet , robbie will be up for it and so will matt and langers i would have thought . Rob

I must have the ones Jon is on about , just went into my local car spares place , said I had lupo wipers and got the Bosch ones. .

It all depends on what you want to spend , have a look at the for sale section on here and piston heads , there are a few nice ones around ATM

Could be matt , when I remove the filter I will check it out , also now I have a replacement pump fitted I can fit the new Bosch fuel pump even though it's got a bit broken at the top , hopefully it should not matter . What I didn't know at the time was they changed the pump in 93/94 .So you get your new pump follow the distructions , the last thing to go on is the sender , then you find out the 92 sender does not fit the new pump !!! . Anyway as said the sender I have from the 95 pump which is in the car now should fit the Bosch pump . All in all this has cost me a lot of dough .

Coil was tested at the road side , I'm sure it's fuel , think I'm going to change the filter first , then if no joy , check the pump and the lines .

My mrs put petrol in the golf a while back , had to drain the tank and so forth .

Well i took the old girl out tonight , was on the way to pick my son up from his mums . I filled up with fuel , started the car drove 10 yards to the airhose and it stalled . It would not start and i had to call the aa in the end . They bridged the fuel relay and said it seemed fine . Spark was fine as well . We then took off the fuel line , primed the system , but it only spat out a small amount of fuel , he said i expect more than that to come out .He said i doubt its the filter as it would have to be badly blocked to stop the fuel ,that and the fact its only done 1500 miles . I will change the filter anyway ,but cant see that will sort it .

Crank sensor will show as a fault if the engine is not running , while it's hooked up to the vagcom .
