  1. Nice condition would be great Mic , but considering how old they are and where they are located it's a big ask . I've ordered some from Heritage, but they are coming from classic parts in Germany, so s few weeks wait . I'm not in a rush really . The weather is fowl , it's not like I want to go out driving.
  2. Thanks for looking . Hopefully some more will turn up later. Kind regards Rob
  3. Thank you . look forward to hearing from you .
  4. Do a search on this Spen . There was something about this recently. I can't remember, but it was to do with the relays.
  5. Great idea with the boxes though , I could have done with those before I stripped the underside off .
  6. As for the underside it's all on . All the new and repainted parts. Just the discs and calipers really .
  7. Thanks chaps . Yeah it's going well. Me and Matt (headlight switch Matt) and Sham my friendly mechanic were on it today . I suppose until I offer up the slam panel I won't know if it's right . I will have some more time on it tomorrow, weather depending. Many thanks again chaps . Kind regards, Rob .
  8. This is going to sound really daft, but the rad does sit on an angle yes ?. I'm in the process of putting my front end back together, it sounds stupid but I've looked in the bay a million times and never given it a thought . I've put the cross member back in with the rad support and a new mount, offered the rad up and thought, did it sit on this angle !? .
  9. Mmmm, new paint . Looking forward to seeing the updates .
  10. Chris is usually your man for parts . I'm sure he will see this post soon .
  11. Many thanks spuddy , great information, which is much appreciated. I have no idea what they changed . Again, without explaining the whole story on the phone which is quicker than writing for half an hour its hard to put it all down . when we test drove the car my Mrs drove the car for a mile if that , hard on the peddle etc . I got in it to drive it back ,as soon as I got it in to second the engine warning light came on , it went in to limp mode . I told the bloke at the garage and he said "oh it's probably a sensor ". We will sort it for you . I know only to well now I should have walked away then !. We picked up the car and all was well , 2 months later I noticed a lack of power. We took it back and it was diagnosed as the turbo sensor . So , when I got the VW diagnostic report, from when the first owner had the problems, guess what? Both sensors and the problem I have already mentioned were listed !. When I asked him for the info on what was done to the car when the warning light came on , he told me an old mechanic did it for us, he can't use a computer so he writes it down , it will take me a week to find it .we never received the info .I think they bought this car cheap at auction, he said the warning was not on , well it does not turn itself off, it was on when it left VW. Its my opinion that they changed the cam sensor and turned the light out via the ross tech or vagcom . Test drove it , the light stayed off and they thought the problem was solved . When we test drove it the light came on again because replacing a sensor only works for a few miles . When the light came on again they thought , crap , we have to get it fixed . We all know its 1200-1600 for VW to fix it , so they bodged it .
  12. Hi spuddy .long story short , I was daft enough to buy an 08 plate Golf TSI . I'm sure you know the problem with these engines. 6 months after buying it the chain slipped. We sent it to a rebuild centre. The bloke rings me and tells me the engine has been patched up to sell. The timing chain cover was glued on and there is paint on the timing wheel , this indicates that someone has tried to change the tensioners without the correct tools . After some digging and talking to the previous owner we found out VW diagnosed these problems. The owner didn't want to pay for the work , so he traded it to VW, they sent it to auction, where the dealer we bought it from sold it to us . We are taking him to court. He says there is no way you can change the tensioners without the correct tools we haven't touched it . So why is there paint on the wheel??. I've been told you can do it the old fashioned way? I just need to know if it can be done please ?. I have pages of evidence but it's to long winded to write it all down . Many thanks Rob
  13. Thanks for replying, I will put a tensioner question up when I get home from work .
  14. Coming on well Sean . Plenty of shiny parts . I'm braving the cold on Saturday, to try and crack on a bit. Looking forward to more updates mate .
  15. Great project Chris . All that room to work in I'm a tad envious.
  16. Exactly that . Big companies will fob off the small person . The law states any claim under 10k that you cannot claim back solicitors costs, at this point the small person wonders if it's worth it and that's what they bank on you doing .
  17. Same as me with my TSI problems Jim . You can't let these people walk over you . But you have to prove it . My car was Broken into years before I had it . I know this because when I was working on the door skins the bottom of the door was full of broken glass. They don't bother to hoover it out , they leave it in there !.
  18. Evening chaps , I'm looking for some advice . I'm currently entering the court stage with my Goof TSI . It's a big ask I know, but does anyone know an AA mechanic or someone that understands the modern engine ,that could answer a few questions for me please . These are just mechanical engine type questions. I won't hold you to anything, I just need a few pointers on the car, mainly timing stuff really . Many thanks , Rob
  19. Have a look in the search , I'm not sure about solid mounts . I bought the oem part .
  20. You may as well replace the front engine mount while your at it.
  21. Yes that's correct. So the front frame is removed to get to the panel . So it's not part of it , they are separate.
  22. I've never looked in classic parts , you may be lucky ?. I got one off a mate, which was in great condition and painted it myself.
