Jim replied to VAG-hag's topic in Engine Bay
Glad to hear you're back in business mate! Looking forward to seeing G60 NO at some meets in the near future. Still my favourite plate for a VR6 :) -
Super! You just can't beat clean paint, a nice drop and Speedlines - it's a fantastic combination :)
-
I'd be quite happy for him to come back, but I suspect he'd had enough of things having sold his Corrado and moved onto other cars :(
-
Is your car a VR6? If the pinhole leak is what I think it is, then it's extremely common that particular part and it's plastic, not metal. You can order a replacement for it from VW Classic Parts or VW Heritage. A picture paints a thousand words though, if you could show us which bit is leaking so we can advise properly! :) If you're having the thermostat housing off, I'd definitely replace the thermostat at the same time - makes sense whilst you're in there!

Yep - get G13 from Volkswagen. It doesn't cost a lot.

I don't really want to comment as it's difficult when threads like this come up. Tom was indeed a super guy on the forum, and indeed in real life. Met him once or twice at little forum get togethers over the year. I think that thread, there's been some posts deleted. I remember it starting off pretty amiably and then saw that for some reason (and strangely out of character) that Tom had really laid into the user who'd posted the thread. In fact I remember being quite shocked as Tom was always pretty easy going. I signed out for a while and when I next logged on, he'd been demoted by Andi and that was the end of that. I honestly have no idea what conversation Andi and Tom had between them and why the outcome was what it was - I guess it's none of my / our business really.

Moving this to Site Comments & Questions.

I honestly haven't the foggiest - I reserved it online and just picked it up. I didn't inspect the other ones. I'd have gone for the other model which was more expensive but they wanted the old unit back in exchange which I didn't have so stuck with the Q-Drive.

VW Motorsport VR6 Inlet Manifold - No Longer Available
Jim replied to peterdinosaur's topic in Parts for Sale
I had heard that the Schrick is, technically, a better design in terms of performance but the VWM manifold has more kudos and has the bonus about being able to change the spark plugs without taking the inlet manifold off! -
Interesting. Was debating the other day whether the Corrado actually ever came with an airbag - I'd the Corrado in the Karmann museum which is basically still 'as new' and comes fitted with lots of options. It also has airbags but I sort of assumed they were 'dummies' and never actually really fitted. Guess not! It's strange that VW / Karmann went to the trouble of actually developing an airbag solution for the Corrado only to almost immediately end production of it.

Surely given the amount of work gone into the car, Michael it would make more financial sense to fix the engine if that's really what happened. But my fingers are crossed that's not the case :( Has your motor had the chains, etc done before?
-
Part number was 619440181.

Last I heard they're about £280+VAT.. I've just had a cheap Q-Drive unit fitted today in fact as I couldn't stomach VW prices - still waiting for it to settle in as the PAS system was almost completely drained. There was also a euro car parts voucher code I used - think it was LASTCHANCE30 for 30% off..
-
And you have to be careful against diesels too... a year or two ago I gave my car a bootful to get past a guy in a normal looking Mondeo TDCI and it was a real effort to even get a car length ahead of him without getting into silly speeds! :(
-
Just can't argue with those wheels - they're fricking awesome. And they have the added bonus that hardly anyone else is running them :)
-
That's very kind of you mate :)
-
Cool - I'll have a look at the dates then and decide on when to come over as it's not very far away from me. Wasn't planning on going to Inters this year, but may as well make a bit of a day out of it. Cheers.
-
Yeah - that would be excellent. Thanks. Which day were you planning to go swiftkid ?

*Pics added p2* Various Parts from Breaker inc VR6 & 16v
Jim replied to CazzaVR's topic in Cars for Breaking
Bugger - just came to put in a bid for that :) -
Welcome aboard! Where abouts in Norfolk are you?
-
Think a modern GTI will walk away to be honest. Torque will be the killer. And despite what everything thinks about the Corrado being quite light, the MK7 GTI is actually pretty close so the Corrado doesn't exactly have a weight advantage.
-
Welcome aboard :) Pictures whenever you're ready please ;)
-
Are you planning to go to GTI International or anything?
-
They look good mate - ta. I'd look to respray the plastic cover, and then get the manifold media blaster or something I guess. Any news if you're going to be down this way any time soon? :)

So some of you folks may have seen this come up for sale a few weeks ago. My Corrado wasn't ready for an impending road trip to Germany, and in a moment of 'free spirited' (read craziness) I decided to buy it as a more fun alternative to a hire car, with the intention to punt it on again as soon as I got home. Well, it chewed up the 1,100 mile road trip without any drama, and it certainly was a talking point amongst my friends both here and in Germany. Here it now is up for sale on eBay. The description on eBay is thorough, listing the problems I'm aware of and which manifested themselves on the trip. This would be an ideal run around for someone with a set of spanners and some skills. It's an exceptionally nice car to drive and if I had my own driveway, I'd be keeping it until I had the spare pennies to fix the handful of issues and get it re-MOT'd.. alas I don't, and I need to prioritise my time and money on the Corrado so she has to go ASAP. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191221239688 Any questions, let me know. If you're seriously interested PM me and we can sort out a price. I paid £600 for it, I will accept a bit less than that. Cheers.
