E39 M5 is an absolute must own for me. The first time I drove one I almost wet myself with delight - it exceeded my expectations in every single way. Running costs terrify me though which is why I've not already owned one!

Kev speaks the truth.. go down the route of modifying the Corrado because you love the Corrado - don't do it because you think it might be a cheaper way into big power. Because it really isn't!
-
Supercharging the VR6 is cheaper than turbocharging - you're talking approx £2,000 for the kit and then a good couple days of install and remapping time at a VW specialist like Stealth. My knowledge on this subject is only based on the stuff I've observed being discussed on here as I've never forced inducted my VR6.. I understand that the VR is pretty strong but I believe a new headgasket and ARP headbolts are the order of the day before going down the supercharging route. You don't need to look into uprating valves, or any other head work etc. The timing chains are strong but the tensioners are a known weak spot - for peace of mind you should budget in timing chains and clutch job, probably at the same time as fitting the uprated head bolts seeing as the head will have to come off anyway.

It really depends what you want to spend and how far you want to go. It's relatively trivial to take a G60 up from standard 160BHP to a reliable 210BHP with a handful of modifications (remap, intercooler, supercharger work) for about the same amount of money as it would cost you to take a VR6 from 190BHP to 220BHP. The VR6 responds nicely to supercharging and turbo charging with some work on strengthening a few key areas. The G60, in my limited experience, seems to be problematic when you try and take it to big power - unless you ditch the G-Lader and turbo that instead. So it really depends what you want to achieve and what your budget is. It'll cost you a hell of a lot to get your Corrado up to the same kind of power as your Leon though, and the chassis on the Leon is far better at coping with that sort of power than a Corrado chassis is!

I don't believe that can be done but would need clarification from VR6 or Andi..

I believe it's going to be a welding job I'm afraid :(

Great work - it always makes me feel happy to see someone going through doing these sorts of jobs on a car... the most tedious, often with no real reward other than knowing "they've been done" - but its this kind of TLC that will keep the car on the road for years to come. Have a gold star ;) And in case you didn't know the red on your car should be Flash Red - not flame red (unless it's been resprayed of course) - see the pic of my old Flash Red 16v in my signature for comparison :)

Think turbo trainer is the better option :) Ask KIPVW for his professional opinion :)

Did the Canadian Corrado's get the "smooth" front bumper with no cut out for a license plate?

Might have to look into a few of these! Cheers for the tip off.

sold VR6 Airbox with K&N Panel - Very Good Condition
Jim replied to dan95x's topic in Parts for Sale
Would you be willing to sell the panel filter separately? -
As a moderator, my comments are purely for the wellbeing of our members - it would be negligent of me to allow someone to sell things at over what they cost to buy them brand new, hence my reply. I'd suggest you think about how you price your adverts in future. Sorry if that upsets you.

But they're only £115 for a pair, brand new, shipped from VW Classic Parts..

Welcome. Looks lovely and clean! Beige leather interior too?

VR6 top mounts fit a 16v... and those look like VR6 mounts.. only thing is it might make your front end sit a little taller by a few mm. What about these Febi ones from VWSpares? --> http://www.vwspares.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=420

I do have an OEM exhaust and I will hopefully get it on the ramps at the start of next month as it's going to need a full wheel alignment.. if no one comes through before then, hopefully I can help you out!

Indeed. Not too impressed about that especially as the roads around here have been cleared pretty well by the council, Eric. No idea why they were not open :( I've personally been getting on just fine. The investment in winter tyres paid off. They'll always be something I keep in my arsenal now for the colder months.. been watching people pulling out of junctions and carparks, wheel spinning all over the shop - I've just been cruising around like it's normal conditions! Drove into the "dirty" lane on a bit of dual carriageway to get past some idiots driving along at 25MPH (on a 40MPH) and the death-stare I got from a guy in a Jag X-Type was hilarious.. he even moved over to try and block me. Idiot.

Not a Corrado, sorry.. but here's the daily steed after some clowns at work put a small snowman on the roof and then decided to pack a snowdrift up to my door. Not sure what that was about... Mysteriously when I came back to the car later, some anonymous wellwisher had cleared the snowdrift and got rid of the snowman. And I know it was none of my mates who did that... baffling!

So - anybody get a chance to really try their winter tyres out today? It was fairly clear this morning but by about 9am the snow started to fall and by midday it was fairly heavy.. I reckon we had about 8" of snow and the roads were chaos. The roads emptied of traffic largely by about 4.30pm and I was one of the last in the office so I headed out... Let me put it this way - I will never, ever be without winter tyres again. Ever. I simply could not believe how good they were. I could provoke wheelspin if I tried, and could also cause the ABS to have a panic attack standing on the brakes but I couldn't believe how much acceleration and braking I was able to achieve even on some utterly atrocious roads. I've just driven across (a deserted) Coventry to pick up my sisters Click 'n' Collect shopping up from Tesco, and driven back to my place - and going to head back out again shortly to a mates house such is the lack of drama. Even in situations where I thought it might struggle there was just no problem. Utterly fantastic.

Really not sure on the spring poundage mate :( I'll have to have a dig through my paperwork and see if it's in there. The dampers are, I'm fairly sure, the Bilstein B12's and the KW springs were bought separately - so it does just seem I need to look into alternative springs. They certainly look right for the VR - in terms of the ride height is even the whole way round.. but I just don't think they suit the dampers for whatever reason.
-
Be interested to hear how you get on - I have Bilsten dampers and KW springs and find the combo doesn't work very well - seems quite "bouncy" on uneven roads.. have been pondering different springs for some time!
