for sale Red 2.0 16v for £1500 ono in Leamington Spa
Jim replied to shuttlepants's topic in Cars for Sale [Corrado]
Rare to see one come up so local! I've never seen this one on the road despite living nearby for years! :) -
Doesn't appear it will be... according to Radio Times: 1/7 - New series. The motoring magazine returns. Jeremy Clarkson attempts to build a car that is even smaller than the Peel P50 and then tests it out on the streets of London before pitching his concept in the Dragons' Den. James May puts the Bentley Continental GT Speed through its paces by taking it on a rally stage, while Richard Hammond drives the new Pagani Huayra hypercar before handing it over to the Stig. Actor Damian Lewis is the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.

I'm slightly worried it's going to be more of the same, but then I didn't think the last series was too bad - and lets be honest, what else is there on TV these days? So even if it's completely scripted guff there will always be a few gems in there somewhere :) And there looks to be at least one big international roadtrip again which I always enjoy!

Really sorry for you after all that work, to end up in this situation. Hope you manage to get it resolved soon and without too much more financial pain :(

Cycle to Work is not as good as it once was. To be honest just better off finding a good bike in the sales and sticking it on a 0% credit card if you want to drip-repay it :)

I don't understand that - as I say I've done about 20,000 miles in my VR6 since I bought it.. and I don't know how many the previous owner did on the same 288mm brake setup.. but I stripped the brakes off this weekend and the discs barely have any wear on them at all and the pads look like they have tens of thousands of miles left on them too - I'm staggered.
-
Wow - you owned an RS2 - one of my all-time favourite cars. Did it live up to its legend status?
-
It could be a number of things.. central locking fires an actuator which is connected via a long metal rod across the boot, to the lock mechanism itself. On my car the actuator worked fine but the mechanism had seized up - I think I ordered a replacement lock from VW and it wasn't mega money. Did mean a different key for the boot but no hardship to have a working lock. Replacement was simply a question of opening the boot, removing the rear plastic cover, disconnect the rod linking the two and I think remove the two bolts holding the lock in place - then installation was the reverse :) Dead easy.

Indeed they are fairly uncommon - got more information on the car? Colour, spec, mileage, etc?
-
Yep - fairly easy job to do. There have been threads about this subject on here before (including the exact type of bearing you need to get) and the actual job is easy enough if you have a vice to use as a bearing press. I swapped out the bearing on my tensioner thinking it was to blame for horrible noises but turned out to be an utterly shagged PAS pump... but from start to finish only took me 1-2 hours or so, and I'm crap with the spanners.

Just use OE discs and pads. They're awesome. And seemingly indestructible - they've been on my car since I bought it.. I've done 20,000 miles at least, and I don't know how many the previous owner did. We stripped the brakes off this weekend and the pads and discs look like they have YEARS left on them.

Sadly 288's are the largest you can go if you want to stick with Speedlines. If you want 312's you need to go up to 16" wheels :( And the 288's were used on the MK3 Golf (even the 16v's, not just the VR6) so that's where you need to be looking :) I'm not sure if the hoses are different (I think they are) and I'm pretty sure you'll need the matching caliper carriers too.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-MK3-GOLF-288MM-FRONT-CALIPERS-CARRIERS-GTI-8V-16V-VR6-/281050444118?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item416fe97156

288's are really worth doing - the difference from 280 -> 288 is fairly substantial. No real point in doing the rears - you could go from the MK2 to MK4 calipers just as a general improvement though.
-
Quite. Just not worth parting with for sums of money like that :( That one looks lovely as well...
-
That was a bargain too, as is this?
-
That's a ridiculous bargain for someone.. damn!
-
Always fantastic to see another one getting some proper TLC - great work :)

Welcome to the forum! For what it's worth interior bits should be easy enough to get hold of but headlights / turn signals / fog lights are getting pretty uncommon here now too.. hopefully someone will come good with some spare parts for you. If you find a seller of a part unwilling to ship, let me know - I am happy to act as intermediary and ship stuff on to you assuming all costs are met :)
-
Sounds like it's gone to a good home. Look forward to seeing some pictures, etc.
-
Hi - are you still looking for one of these? I've finally been over to my lockup and dug it out :)
-
If it's only the plastic one you want and not the leather these are still available from your VW dealer and not bank bustingly expensive.. Wait - are you talking about the long piece of plastic that covers the metal arm or just the grip? Either way also available from VW still I believe :)
-
Welcome to the forum. Yep - avoid that like the plague - complete load of tosh!! :)

Sod all that modern stuff... http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/ford/mustang/1965-ford-mustang-coupe-289-v8-automatic/992244 Free road tax too.. help offset the diabolical fuel economy a bit ;)
-
Given the work he's done to it mate, it's a really good price... and in your budget ;)

I do keep debating putting mine back into daily duty soon.. because of a change of circumstances with my cars, if I don't, it means I *will* have to sell it if I don't start using it every day. It's a tough call.
