I've not been actually watching any of the events but I've been really cheered by some of the scenes I've been seeing on the highlights.. people giving it 110%, crowds of people willing them on to win - and we've been getting some great medals. It's been fantastic to see how well the cyclists have been doing for example, not just taking gold medals but setting world records. I'm even starting to believe we could catch up with the USA or China now!! Wonderful stuff. Gives you a bit of national pride at a time when I thought there was nothing much good left in this country :)

Um... so you fitted them without the spring plates at the top??!? Picture of how they should look:

Looks quite like a new Scirocco from the side!

Not direct chufties at my car but for the Corrado generally! Took the VR in for the MOT today at VRS in Coventry where Tempest normally gets his fleet MOT'd. Handed over the keys and saw the car been driven into the MOT bay. From across the waiting room I could hear snippets of information from several mechanics chatting.. it's nice to think that amongst all the boring crap that comes in every day, at least the Corrado gives them something to talk about! "A Corrado? What's that?" "It's like a Scirocco... only.. just a bit 'more'" "That's a proper classic that is. Not many more of them around now.." "It's got the engine from the Golf in it - 2.8 litre" (had to resist the urge to stand up and tell them it's the 2.9!!) :) And so on. Then, on the way home, chap came past me in an E reg VW Transporter who was clearly an enthusiast (van was well stickered up, alloys, etc) - he looked down and gave me a nod so gave him the thumbs up. All put a bit of a smile on my face :)

Dave - Corrado is finally back on the road! I must sort out a day to pop down and see you to pick up my print! :) -
after 9 long and happy years... i am no longer DEL VR6! Just "Del"
Jim replied to DEL VR6's topic in General Car Chat
I've failed to make it to many shows this year sadly mate - and indeed won't be at VWNW either. Feeling the pinch at the moment and the fuel prices are pretty painful. Corrado is doing OK - just passed the MOT today so it's got another year of life left in it at least May not see you this year then after all but definitely see you next year at Stanford. Are you going to go the Classic Car Show at the NEC in November? That's always an excellent show.. -
You ask, you get... I had to find a random arm on the internet and stitch it onto Kev's to make up for the fact it was missing on the other pic! :)

Hah - don't drag me into this mate. I can just use Photoshop. That doesn't implicate me as a pig poker!! :)

Something like this perhaps? :)

Help - don't know what to do with my VR :/ NOW PASSED MOT!!!

As others have said, aside from the clutch, the majority of those are pretty easy... drop links are a 10-15 minute job per side for example! It really depends what your long term plans are for the car - but if you do plan to keep it none of those jobs are a horror show and doing it all yourself apart from the clutch will save you a fair few quid. If you want a second opinion on what wants doing or another quote then my old man uses a garage in Hunstanton who are really good and seem to get a wide variety of interesting motors including classic Bentleys, right up to Audi RS6's and stuff.. can give you their details if you want? -

Sorry to hear you've sold up Del. Was always good to catch up every year or so and chat about things! Hopefully still see you at Stanford Hall from time to time though. -
Interesting :) Would be interested in a spin in yours when it's done mate to see the difference?
-
Food for thought - seems a fair price. Does he source the 3.68 final drive for that price too? So basically you take him the gearbox and he gives it back rebuilt and upgraded?

Jim replied to Purple Tom's topic in Cars for Breaking
You manage to post that spoiler mech yet mate? I'm not in any rush - I just want to know to keep an eye out for it in reception @ work :) Cheers. -
Andy - would you mind sending me some info about how much the 3.68 mod and rebuild, etc are setting you back? :) And good luck for your MOT!

I have the TT wipers on mine and I have to say it's worth the cost to just get them... they're night and day compared to the terrible Corrado ones!

Just for contrast I think they look like pap. And I'd ban you if you did that VR turbo!! :) -
Isn't that (sadly) true of any company though? :|
-
Ooh - what you moved onto now on the Corrado mate? :)
-
Err... you mean like this recent / active For Sale thread? :) http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?75511-VR6-various-bits-(alternator-steering-rack-decat-MAF-)-leftovers-from-conversion

There is a coolant sensor for the ECU in the side of the block.. I believe it's the one labelled here as the thermotime sensor. May also be worth replacing the ECU temp sensor next to it! They're both under the coolant flange...

I'll setup another rolling road day towards the end of the year - if you want to do some catering, you'd be more than welcome - will give Wendy (and my bank account) a break!! :)
