I've a corrado VR6 been stood still for 5 years now not starting
Jim replied to ejaz's topic in Newbies Hangout
As has been said, fuel being 5 years old isn't going to be in optimal shape. I'd look to get whatever is in the tank syphoned out and replaced with at least a few litres of fresh fuel - then see how you stand. I'd also be looking to get it fully serviced ASAP as all those fluids (oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc) stood for 5 years won't be in good condition at all. -
Good to see you're still tinkering with your cars Kev! :)

Welcome :) Look forward to seeing some pictures and finding out a little more about the car.

At his request (which seems fair), and in the interests of being transparent, I have edited the posts from the C&R chaps specifically to remove Storm Guy's real name. Nothing else has been changed. Would ask if there are any future posts from C&R if they could avoid using the individuals real name and just use his forum alias.

No, indeed Bill - again, not criticising ChrisL at all as I'm absolutely sure he sold it on in good faith. Just wondering what happened with the guy who bought it from him though!
-
It certainly is in substantially better condition than the Corrado in the VW Museum in Wolfsburg!

Guess they felt they could make a quick buck out of it. It's great for Corrado prices, etc etc but it's just a shame that this car didn't end up in the hands of an enthusiast and stay there for another 10/15 years at least :( Maybe if we are lucky we can see it fitted with air ride and some 18" rims next.

If you want to go as original as possible, then a standalone engine management system probably isn't what you're looking for!
-
Weird - it takes me right to the page when I click the link... I don't have an account or anything on Classic Parts either.
-
Well then you're in luck - the engine bay wiring harness is available for the VR6 from VW Classic Parts for a very reasonable price - in the region of 100 quid. Ignore the image as it's a stock picture but: http://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/en/leitungssatz-853c8c.html

Rolling Road Day @ Stealth Racing - May 22nd
Jim replied to VR6Pete's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Well I'm hoping to come along though no idea if I will have my Corrado back by that point or not - if not, it'll be there at Stealth, but probably with the engine still in bits :) -
White Corrado on the black Porsche teledials is rather nice :) Good pics Eric!
-
Yeah in theory. Depends on your own circumstance / situation with your car though. Mine is in a locked garage, in a secured / gated alleyway. They'd have to be pretty desperate to get through that lot to steal a rusty 200,000 mile Corrado VR6 :)
-
If the part is wrong for the car, and you ordered it based on their recommendation, shouldn't they take it back and give you a refund?
-
Jesus - that is a horror story and a half.
-
Sprinter53 - you're doing awesome work on these reproduction pieces. I think I can say on behalf of all Corrado owners, thank-you!

The ECU is certainly getting reset and going into the default learning mode every time. Whilst it's not optimal I was having to do the same with my VR for the last 14 months or so, whilst I wasn't using it as the battery would never have survived weeks at a time between being used. Didn't seem to cause it any harm from an electrical point of view. Unfortunately I don't have any choice as my car lives in an isolated garage block a couple miles from my home. I will have to look into a solar panel charger at some point though I guess. I wouldn't be concerned about leaving the CTEK plugged in though - pretty much any expensive car collection will have all the cars permanently connected up using battery conditioners. CTEK is a very well reputed brand. You won't have any issues.
-
Agreed. Unfortunately the scarcity of good Corrado's means you must expect to travel now to get the right one. If you're not willing to travel, you're going to struggle to find a good car unless you're lucky!

Best if you drop the forum owner / admin Toby a PM and he can check it out for you :) His username is t700bes. Cheers.

I don't get the logic of some VW dealers - I swear they're run by idiots. If you ever need confirmation of a part number just feel free to post / ask on here as someone should have access to a parts catalogue to check for you.
-
Another part I wish I'd stockpiled when they were available if they're already selling for over twice the price they did when new!
-
Lovely :) Welcome to the forum!

That would be useful (the picture I mean).
