Test pairs have landed. So I tried in two types of material - one looks terrible (Black Acrylic), the other looks really good (Black, Strong and Flexible - their name, not mine!). Even almost has a quite nice OE style finish to it compared to the first load I had done last year. Hopefully going over to my lock-up tomorrow to fix my aux water pump so will take these with me and test fit them and then we're go for orders :) Here's the crap ones: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fJDWZF2UmyT09uTjc0bHBTQXc/view?usp=sharing Here's the good ones: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1fJDWZF2UmyQW0yRHJzdExseU0/view?usp=sharing

Lakeside Karting - Friday August 28th
Jim replied to jedi-knight83's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Just posting to verify the legitimacy of Nathan - was a very active member quite some years ago and a good guy :) Hope all is well with you mate. -
I think he was referring to your comment about people not cashing in on rare items... hence a lowball offer for your VW Motorsport VSR :)
-
No need to apologise at all mate - I know you are trying to just help folks out! Not sure what to do on this one really! At the end of the day people want roof trims and this guy you've found is making them seemingly to a high standard... the problem is karmannski's really! I think his are in progress, but it's just very slow progress due to time shipping stuff over from the factory (in China?) and presumably other commitments.
-
Yeah - karmannski has invested a lot of time and money into making replicas of the trims. Looked like good work too but I think folks are getting impatient.
-
Difference is you'd have insurance if you crashed it! If the engine blows up, then tough **** :(
-
You're not alone - I think the 996's look good as well. I'd have one in a heartbeat :)
-
Yeah not sure they can be really compared to be honest! I think the 911 is the kind of car most Corrado owners aspire to move up to, myself included! Now is a great time to pick up a 996 - they can't possibly go any lower in price!
-
From what I'm lead to believe, sticking front callipers of our type can normally be easily fixed with just a bit of copper ease - I think water / crap sometimes gets past the dust seals on the slider pins / bolts. Removal, a bit of cleaning up and lubrication, and you should be back in business.
-
This is why we always bang on about buying OE where budget will allow for it. Easier said than done I know, as I've often had to skimp on parts where VW prices were just in dreamland.
-
Be surprised if they're not all still available from a main VW dealer / TPS :)
-
Doesn't the lambda only come into play once the car has warmed up? Think it's the same with the MAF too..?
-
Personally I'd look into swapping to the 280mm setup instead. It'll give a substantial improvement over the standard 16v brakes!
-
Nope. The aux water pump is not driven off a belt or anything similar - it just sits in line in the cooling system and is an electric motor. Have you been able to work out which side of the engine the noise is coming from?
-
If you want to get something 3D printed check out http://www.shapeways.com - an AWESOME setup. Upload your model, it verifies the suitability and then offers you a tonne of materials to print it. The whole process is exceptionally slick indeed. It's who I'm using for my speedo binnacle covers now and who I'll hopefully be using in the future if we get anything else scanned / remade :) It's the 3D scanning / modelling we need to crack now.
-
OK - the two pairs of prototypes have been shipped by Shapeways. I'll let you all know when they're here and when they've been test fitted - will see which material is most suitable!

Welcome aboard - looks very nice and clean. Nice finish on the wheels - the Estorils were notorious for corroding / fading and losing their lustre, but they look superb. Any more info on the car such as mileage, etc? Regarding the brakes you can either just service the whole system (caliper rebuild, goodridge hoses, new discs & pads) or replace it all with the G60 280mm setup which is significantly better than the standard 256mm system :)
-
Ah good tip - thanks mate. I may do it out of curiosity just to see what state it's in, but have actually ordered a new one now - Bosch one from German eBay for about £40 delivered.

Fantastic looking club stand guys. Great work :)

I ended up doing the ignition switch from underneath having taken the front seat out - not sure if it's a bit more involved removing recaro's though than the standard seats! As others have said, a long thin screwdriver with an appropriate little bend in it and it was not too bad a job then. I cable tied in the replacement though I have to say - there was no way that little screw was going back without a fight!

Just as a follow up for this, it seems to be nothing more sinister than the pump itself is just goosed. I spent a bit of time today following some steps I was advised to try over email (checking fuses, etc - they were all fine) - one of the steps was to bridge pins 1&3 of the yellow sensor connector which is supposed to bring on the fans and the aux water pump. I tried once to verify the step works, and then disconnected the fans so I could actually hear the aux water pump (and also avoid slicing my fingers!) but sure enough the auxiliary pump did nothing. However I began to wonder if it was just a bit stuck so gave it a tap with a spanner and you could hear it begrudgingly whirring into life. Tapping it more made it occasionally stop and start. Sometimes it would run for a while and then stop. Either way, it's had it. I suppose the only mystery is why it seems to work LOUDLY the first time I put the ignition on, and then pretty much never again without being clouted.. but bottom line is I need a new aux water pump as this one is clearly in it's death throes and there's nothing more complicated it seems with sensors or whatever needing replacing, or bad wiring.

Give them a chance. It's a full days event - I should imagine most of them are still there or maybe only just starting to make the trip home!!
-
As someone else said you may be best buying a donor Corrado VR6 - one with shagged / rotten through bodywork perhaps with a good engine, then you can just swap the whole drivetrain over and crush the old shell? Good luck with it!
-
Indeed. We've talked about this place more times than I can count over the last 6 or so years on here, but I've no idea if anyone has actually tried them yet! :) Waiting for the day my car fails the MOT for dull headlights but until then, hoping someone will try them and give some feedback! http://www.dual-metallising.co.uk
