  1. And christ - I know we sometimes have disagreements on this forum, and ramble off topic but... the thread on detailing world is ludicrous. Just people picking lumps out of each other for the majority of the thread. Remind me not to use there!
  2. Anyone who's had one of these cars for more than a couple of years, and does / has done 'daily driver' mileage in them will know exactly where you're coming from. Persevere with it. You know how rewarding it can be when you finally get on top of a long standing problem with these motors! :)
  3. Shocking. Talk about busted. Pretty sure Swissvax used to be Swissol back in the day? Their prices were always nuts. The quite blunt and offensive threat of legal action shows they've quite badly had their pants pulled down and stand to lose a lot of business, and think they can intimidate the guy into backing away. I hope this hurts them badly.
  4. I sympathise entirely :( What happened?
  5. Apologies - meant to update this sooner. I did test fit these the other day and my initial enthusiasm has waned somewhat as they just don’t fit as snug or as well as the original ones we had done. I mean they worked in that they sat in place, but felt like they would be easily dislodged by a bumpy road. And despite my belief that the ‘preferred’ pair looked like it was a better match for the OE finish, it actually didn’t quite as original as I'd hoped once I fitted them. I’m going to go back and have another look at them and maybe leave them installed for a while and see if they told in place and don’t fall off.
  6. Well that looks like we may have a candidate for causing the issues judging by the state of that connector!
  7. I was going to say something about the lambda probe. I remember a friend having a faulty one of these on his Corrado (though it was a G60) - would be fine during the warm up process as the lambda is generally ignored until the car is up to a certain temperature, and then after about 10 minutes it would be like someone flicked a switch with lumpy / rough running and bordering on stalling. It may manifest itself in a different way in the VR6 so would certainly be worth looking into. At least check the wiring to the lambda probe as it's not uncommon for it to be come damaged or break due to brittleness with age. I was also curious to know if whether, when you're driving even with the car running at like a fixed RPM at speed on a road, does it simply just cut out? Or will it be fine until the engine switches to idle (like you put your foot on the clutch) and then cuts out and won't restart?
  8. What are the RS4's like to run / maintain? What sort of money would you need per year to keep one in good shape?
  9. Tough one... Depends if you're talking something you want to put away and use occasionally in the hope that it accumulates in value (or at least doesn't depreciate) or whether you're not bothered about depreciation and just want to use it now. A quick list cars I'd love to own in that kind of price range..? Ariel Atom BMW E92 (?) M3 997 911 Jaguar XKR Audi RS6 Avant (the V10 Bi-Turbo one!) Mustang Shelby Gt500 (awesome one in red on Autotrader!) :)
  10. Sounds like an airlock to me - I had the same thing when I swapped my aux water pump the other day. Let it warm up with the lid off, and the level kept rising even after the thermostat had opened. So I stuck the lid on and the level got quite high. As soon as I stopped the car, it proceeded to puke coolant out the overflow pipe (which I'd never seen before). I gingerly opened the lid on the expansion tank and squeezed the top and bottom radiator pipes a few times and the level came down... so put the ignition on (to make the aux water pump start working) with the expansion tank lid still off and kept doing it and the level kept dropping. Chucked in a bit more coolant and put the lid on and it seems quite happy now from what I can tell. So might be worth just going through the 'burping' process and see if it fixes it for you? *edit* And the standard Corrado expansion tank lid doesn't click into place. It just tightens up until you can't tighten it no more. That's a MK4 expansion tank thing.
  11. Available brand new on Classic Parts if you're feeling especially flush :) http://shop.volkswagen-classic-parts.de/vwcp/scirocco-corrado/corrado/chassis/front-axle/assembly-carrier-535199315c.html

    Front End Respray

With the Chunnel the way it is right now should only take you a couple of days. You might need to check for unwanted passengers too :) All joking aside, £200 a panel for a very decent quality respray job seems pretty reasonable.
  13. I'm out of the country the following day otherwise I'd make a weekend of it down there. Just trying to remember if thats the circuit we went to EONS ago, when we had a bit of rain and with all the karts on slicks, it was like an ice skating rink? :)
  14. Are they easy to remove, or are all the bolts that hold them in place likely to have turned into a horrible crumbly mess by now?
  15. See this is my thinking about the 996. It can't go cheaper. Now is surely the time to find a good one to put away as an occasional use / summer / weekend type car and whilst it may not necessarily climb massively in value, it can't lose much. Compare to what's been sunk into my Corrado in the last few years, plus the depreciation from the original purchase price, I'd have been much better off with a 911!
  16. Agreed. Replace the relays. They're almost always the cause of any aftermarket loom issues.
  17. Hi Roger.. I'll probably lock this thread up as removal of old foam has been discussed a lot on here. Here's an example thread: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?77862-Bonnet-foam-Removal As for sticking it, from talking to someone this weekend who bought a set of the foam, I believe it does come with a strong adhesive layer under the bit you peel off.
  18. Used car values here are extremely low compared to what they are in Germany.
  19. Surprised to see 997's are now available for under 20k.

    Nugget trouble

Very nice - looks like you have a collection of interesting stuff :) Love the 3 series touring!
  21. Been thinking about going back to BBS Solitudes on my car again and I think looking at your car it's made me think that 6 spokes really are the way forward on the VR. Car looks hard as nails! Love it!
  22. It looks like some kind of bracket to hold a coolant pipe in a certain place... no idea where though!
  23. Yeah you can just about make out the part number on the left :) 021 121 093
  24. Try and remember to expire items when they're sold otherwise people will go through the checkout process to buy an item then you've got to go through the faff of rejecting the PayPal payment, etc.
  25. A large front mount intercooler is a must. You can liberate over 200BHP easily with just a handful of proven modifications and I certainly never felt my old G60 was a slouch with 207BHP :)
