Yep my chains were 'quiet' and on further inspection turned out the tensioner had rubbed down to the metal.

Just had the VR mot done yesterday. Passed but i see what you mean about the "certificate". Literally just printed on plain A4 paper. Even the mot guy was having a moan about it.

Im sure i picked mine up from the dealers and they had it in stock (was about a year ago though). Not cheap mind £56

If you don't mind telling, what sort of price is all that costing? Thinking of having getting mine done and just curious as to how much i should be budgeting.

Not sure how good/bad this idea is but on my old gti i used gasket seal. Basically comes in a tube (like silicon) and you just put spread it on. Reason was i took the tb off to clean and then realised i didn't have a new gasket. Didn't have any issues either.

Could it be some pikey has been pulling it up? Infact can you pull it up manually without breaking the mechanism?

Im sure you can change to 288mm carriers and keep the caliper you have at the moment. They will fit under 15" wheels. The difference between 280mm and 288mm is pretty big (in my opinion). I didn't think the 280's were that bad until i changed up.

I think ECP do a refurbed rack for the VR6 but don't quote me on that. May have to give them your old one though.

ABS possibly just a knackered/dirty sensor really need to get it on VAG Com to see what fault is thrown up. The cutting out could just be the ISV needing cleaning.

I thought the BMC was too loud for my liking initially but after an hour i was loving it and still am. Can't hear it when driving around sensibly but hit the accelerator and all hell breaks loose :-)

One of my best mods by far has been to stick a BMC induction kit on. Sounds the nuts and still get the VR engine sound coming through.

First time i got to drive mine properly today after about 3 weeks. Was the same as Portent, roof open, tunes playing and a stupid grin on my face. Managed to do 70 miles just driving around aimlessly looking for random country lanes.

Ive just paid £330 from DG but thats for a VR6 Clutch.

I had some made up by a company called pirtek about 3 months ago. Cost £30 for both pipes on the rack. Just had to give them a sample to make a copy from.

It was this kind of encouragement from fellow forum members that convinced me to keep mine when it wasn't well. Haven't regretted it since.

If its just a head gasket that needs doing then why not get it done and then sell on? Costs around £300 for a full head rebuild and even cheaper if you can do it yourself. And you'd sell the car for a lot more than with a dodgy head.
