could be grugh. i wouldn't risk my charger with a foam filter.
-
grugh: yes. guys that have done front mount alone have claimed 20-30hp increase. dubster82: crossflow head that VW starting producing in like what... early-mid '90s? maybe '95? much better flow than the stock PG head from a G60.. especially if you port it. plus, the intake manifold is on the front... far away from that hot exhaust manifold, so it helps to keep your intake charge cooler. when done right with a new intake system to go with it, the path from charger to intake manifold can be VERY short providing VERY quick boost build rates... as with a 16v head done right.

the 24v was just released in the past 2 years or so.. there still aren't very many on the road... around here anyway.
-
"G60, I reckon the ford we get over here are going to be different. What sort of models had 30lb injectors fitted?" should be the same... i dunno exactly what models had em. ask for 30# injectors and see what they come up with. a good guy to ask is Sam Brown from http://www.snstuning.com/. "62mm that a bit extreme for me!!" hey.. you're the one with caios and PWR in ur nick!! 62mm is completely safe to 6100rpm.
-
foam filters are fine on a G60 as long as you have a 'pre filter' bag over it... not that i recommend it or run it myself...
-
off the shelf SNS stage 5-5 will be :thumbleft: :thumbleft: :thumbleft:

you should be close to 15psi even with a 68mm. i get 10psi at 3000rpm with my 68mm.. if you don't take the car past 6000rpm and you're mostly concerned with improving low-end grunt... i'd say to go with a 62mm. that's what i'm planning on after i ungrade the fuel sys... 3.5bar fpr and 30# injectors. most 30# ford injectors will work.. you can usually find em cheaper that way.. i had the same concern about the map sensor... but i was told by SNS that with the chip it is of no concern.
-
the boost bleed-off valve? its always open... it closes gradually with the throttle and closes completely 5 degrees before WOT.
-
getting 10psi before 3000rpm... and that wasn't at WOT. :D
-
it doesn't put much extra strain on the charger if you keep your revs in a reasonable range. with a 62mm i've been told not to pass 6100rpm. so.. with a 65mm you're lookin at what.. 6250-6400?? something like that? you're reving the charger higher on a more frequent basis with a smaller pulley.. but as long as you don't go past the design limits, you should be fine as long as the charger was serviced well, and is maintained. Deleted dupicate for ya. VR

ok, been a while.. i've got a few pics to post and a quick update. got the charger in the car last night. i waited cuz i'm doing bodywork so i can't drive it anyway. i wanted one of my buddies to give me a hand but they all ended up flakin out on me.. so my girl came out with me and helped me put the charger in.. now is that true love or what!! :profileright: :profileleft: the front end of the car is still at the paintshop, so i don't have any headlights yet. it was after midnight by the time we got it all buttoned up, so i just took it down to the end of my grandmothers lane and back up again.. man it feels good to drive it again! even if its only at 1500rpm in 2nd.

i think ur best bet would be to turbo what you've already got. you can grab a turbo off a saab or something and get a manifold and downpipe made... then all you REALLY need to worry about is management. you don't have to run crazy boost... only like 6 or 7 psi... wont blow the engine, but itll give some nice power! just a thought..
-
hey man, at least you didn't have to pay for it. if i did something like that after the amount of tedious work i've done to pay for my ride, i'd walk off a bridge.
-
LowG is right.. upgrade air: ported charger with 62mm pulley or there abouts upgrade fuel: fuel pressure regulator and injectors... maybe pump and lines once you start gettin into the high 200bhp's increase flow: uber ported head! there are 8v G60s that make 300bhp. its all about head flow. 50mm intake and exhaust ports and you're laughin as long as you have the air and fuel to use it. :thumb right:
-
i think you CAN use a G60 rad.. but you're SUPPOSED to use one from a 20vT. dunno the reason, but i read that.
-
pretty sure the adjustable bit on the koni yellows isn't a height adjustment, its a dampening adjustment... harder or softer, but the ride height stays the same. maybe you have 'sport' springs and you need 'race' springs...

"the impression I get is that the pay is awful so most of there staff consists of apprentices with very few people who know what there doing, as soon as the apprentices complete there time they move on making way for more new apprentices." i'll agree with that! when i worked at the stealers, it was a total mushroom farm. they keep you in the dark and feed you shit! ..and the pay is feckin brutal. only reason to work there is the parts discount!!
-
you'll also need the front axles and rad support to do it right i believe... but thats just from what i've read skimmin posts on the net..

pretty sure legal age in the states is 16.
-
ur pretty well setup andi! i'm pickin up a valentin 1 detector as soon as i go down to the states. can't but em here, highly illegal. if you get pulled over and there is anything plugged into your cigarette lighter, you have to show the pig so they know it isn't a radar detector. i'm gettin pretty good at spotted the unmarked ones... cept they started rollin in tinted minivans now those sneaky bastards. :x :x :x

jim, i know how you feel. but when it comes down to it man, its all about you. what do you want? who cares what someone else's opinion is? that said.. almost everyone i've ever heard of (can't think of a single exception) that's sold their corrado misses it and wishes they hadn't sold it. i dunno you or your situation, but i know if i ever sold my rado for whatever reason, first thing i'd be doin is lookin for a new one. but thats me. good luck whatever you decide. :)

our cars run hot. did they flush the coolant system when they replaced the coolant? i haven't had any problems with overheating.. but it does get hot. i'm going to be fitting an oil cooler in the next month or so. you can find em in the wreckin yard for pretty cheap i'd guess. i got mine from an audi 5000 turbo for free. then you need a sandwich adapter plate that screws onto the oil filter housing and has two stainless lines coming off of it. i might also try having an aluminum overflow tank made up, similar to the catch cans people are using, and mounting that in front of the rad. not sure if this will work, or even be possible on a corrado, but my friend did it on his 77 trans am and his coolant temps dropped a solid 5 degrees celsius at any given time. as far as underhood temperature.. you can rig something up to direct more cold air up towards that engine from down below. then, take that rubber stripping off the back edge of the engine bay so that the air can flow right out that space. you do all that and i bet temps drop a good 10-15 deg celsius. good luck.

so then... mk1 GTI = ~680kg (i remember it being 14xxIbs, but high 14 hundreds so i rounded to 1500Ibs and converted to kg) mk2 GTI = 1000kg (thanks darren) Corrado '90 G60 = 1115kg whhheeeee! '91 G60 = 1160kg '92 G60 = 1190kg '92 VR6 = 1230kg '93- VR6 = 1250kg and the valvers weigh in at 1190kg-1210kg a mk1 GTi is almost half the weight of a VR6 corrado! i'm very glad the '90 rado is the lightest, but i'm lookin for a serious lightweight to setup for drag.. it has to be the mk1 for me!!! 8) sorry to invade ur thread jim, i wanted to write those #s down somewhere :)
-
you know how much a mk2 weighs darren? just a little less than a rado?
-
agreed nigel. i like the looks of the mk2 better than the mk1.. stock anyway. but if you're going with a mk2, why not go with THE mk2... corrado. there's that guy sellin his shell for £750 on this forum somewhere.. looks like a very clean ride.. just needs a motor. there's a good project to get your hands dirty jim! ..its not like you'd have to rush, you've got the sax!
