Rat look is for Hot Rods & aircooled. Just plain wrong on more modern cars IMO.

Fraid not, it's an obsolete part - no stock anywhere. Best bet is to try & get one from a breakers, or if you're feeling flush, this looks well tasty: http://gruvenparts.com/website/cart/cart.php?target=product&product_id=256&category_id=60 Cheers, Robbo

Personally, I'd keep it original Flash Red, but if you fancy a change, what about Audi Misano Red? - that's nice & bright. Cheers, Robbo

If you do get some made up, I might be interested in a pair. I'm missing one too & the one I have is rusted up. (I'm assuming they're both the same?) Cheers, Robbo

I don't remember it getting that high before the new rad - it seemed to get up to 90ish fairly quickly & not fluctuate much before. If anything, I would expect it to run coooler with the new rad - oil temps are definitely lower now. Cheers, Robbo

Fitted a new radiator on my VR a couple of weeks back, but not really driven it since due to hols. Got it out the garage today to take it for a blast & noticed the temp gauge didn't get much above 70. Checked the oil temp on the MFA & that seemed to be normal - rising steadily & topped out at mid 90s. Got back home & popped the bonnet to check everything out - all the hoses were nice & hot, heater working fine, oil temp settled at mid 90's. Left it running for a while to see what happened & the coolant temp quickly rose up to 110! - the fans kicked in ok, first at low speed, then second stage. No leaks, levels ok, but temp gauge didn't seem to want to drop below 110 when stood. When I was driving around, it didn't get much above 70! Does this sound like an airlock somewhere? Or maybe a dodgy temp sensor? Cheers, Robbo

I can vouch for the Russek VR6 book - I've had one for years & found it very useful. Cheers, Robbo

On my old Corrado VR6 - I replaced the head with a reconditioned head from a Golf. They will fit, but you may find slight differences & the cams are different, so should be swapped over, as mentioned above. On the one I got, it had a hole in the head for some kind of EGR setup I think. This had to be plugged when fitted to the Corrado. Cheers, Robbo

No, the Golf one is different. That ali one looks a good price, but all depends on shipping & import charges. I've just got a new one for the Corrado from the Radiator Shop in Hartlepool for £81 + VAT - a lot cheaper than GSF, ECP etc. Cheers, Robbo

SUCCESS! So far so good at least. Replaced the o-ring in the rad elbow today & the leaking seems to be fixed! The new o-ring from VW was a round profile one, whereas the old one I took out was a square profile one. Seems to have done the job though - maybe a superceded part? Anyway, the old seal crumbled to bits when I took it off! Lost about half a litre of coolant while I did it mind :-( Happy days! Cheers, Robbo

ooh, just looked on the Gruvenparts site - that rad elbow looks like a lovely bit of kit! Took it out for a run today to check for airlocks/heater/fan operation & all seems good. Had a good look where the coolant is seeping from & it's all the way around the join, so I'm hopeful it is just the o-ring. Picking the new one up tomorrow. Cheers, Robbo

Do it! I've just got back into a VR6 Corrado after selling my old one a few years back (& totally regretting it!). Admittedly, I have a nice modern daily too, so the rado is really just a weekend car (for now). Yes it does feel like an 'old' car in comparison to my new Civic, but there really is no car quite like a VR6 Corrado (& I've had a lot to compare it with!) - intoxicating I think is the only way to describe it. It's like returning to the arms of an old lover (is that a bit OTT?) Cheers, Robbo

Went to my local stealer to order a new elbow - obsolete part, no stock anywhere! Ordered a new o ring, hopefully that will cure it (fingers crossed!) Cheers, Robbo

TBH I didn't measure the new one I got, but it looks the same as yours. I did have to do a bit of tweaking of those brackets to get them to sit inside the fan shroud, but once that was done & the fans were on, it fitted perfectly. My old rad had the brackets on too. HTH, Robbo

Hopfully there won't be a next time! Any advice on the leaking elbow? Cheers, Robbo

Right, new rad's in - phew, what a job! it's all the piddly little unexpected things that take for ever - ended up taking me over 5 hours! Sheared a bolt in one of the rad top mounting brackets & then the little screw that secures the bonnet cable rounded off, so I had to leave it attached to the slam panel & just move it over to the side. (I also tidied up some of the rusty paintwork on the chassis crossmembers & fanshroud while everything was in bits, so that added to the time too). Once the old rad was out, it wasn't too bad - just swapped the fans, switch & top hose elbow onto the new one. New one went straight in - perfect fit. If anyone wants one, I got it from 'The Radiator Shop' in Hartlepool - £81. Filled the rad up first (thanks for the tip - took ages!), then filled up from the top hose & finally the expansion tank, connected everything up & refitted the slam panel & bumper (it certainly goes back together quicker, when you know what you're doing!) Still need to run it up to temp & bleed out any air, but sadly it's now leaking from the top hose elbow - where it mates to the radiator. Have I missed something? Should I have used some sealant on the elbow? There didn't appear to be any on when I removed it from the old rad :-( Please help! Cheers, Robbo

Welcome back! I'm also back after a few years away - with my second VR6. Cheers, Robbo

Thanks chaps! Good tip about the coke bottle - I'll try that when refilling. When you say support the engine, do you mean from underneath or the front? Also got all new stat housing, crack pipe & thermostat to fit while it's all in bits :-) Critical Mass - I'm in Dewsbury mate. Cheers, Robbo

Got a new radiator to fit on my VR, never done one before. Anyone got any tips to make the job easier? Cheers, Robbo

I know what you mean about the lights. I don't mind them, but might go for some more OE looking black or all red ones. Cheers, Robbo

A couple of pics now posted in Members Rides :-) Cheers, Robbo

After a few years break, I'm back with another VR6 - a '93 in Blackberry with black leather, KW coilies, Milltek & 17" Audi TT Comps, plus a few other bits & pieces! When I had my last one (black with cloth) a few years back, I always lusted after a Blackberry one with leather - funny how things turn out! It's generally in excellent nick, just a few jobs to sort - A small patch of surface rust on the passenger sill needs rubbing down & painting, the alloys could do with re-polishing, although I'm considering changing them for some nice dished 16s (I can't decide if the 17s maybe look a bit too big for the Corrado?) & it could do with a new radiator too. A few pics: Cheers, Robbo

as above, must be in good nick or new. Preferably local (West Yorks or near). Cheers, Robbo

Finally been to pick up the new VR today - man I'd forgotten how good they are! I'll post up some pics soon, raining at the mo (again!) Just a slight coolant leak to sort - looks like the rad's seen better days! First job on the list, then maybe change the wheels. It has some polished 17" Audi TT Comps on at the mo, but I personally think they look a little too big. Fancy some 16s with a nice deep dish :-) Cheers, Robbo

Will post some pics when I've picked it up, unfortunately I don't have any at the moment. Can't wait to get back behind the wheel of a 'rado again! Cheers, Robbo
