  1. Hi all, I'm not sure, but I think my fuel pump may be on it's way out. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a high pitched whining from the back end which I'm pretty sure is the fuel pump, & it definitely wasn't so noticable before. Just wondering if there are any other symptoms of a poorly fuel pump to look out for? Cheers, Robbo
  2. Apologies for bumping this thread again, but I could really do with some help on this one... anyone?!! Cheers, Robbo
  3. Anybody any suggestions for best place to run an alternative 12v from for this cam sensor wiring test? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to electrics, don't want to blow anything! Cheers, Robbo
  4. Ah, yeah, cheers Dinkus. I seem to remember reading something about that somewhere. One less thing to worry about then :) Cheers, Robbo
  5. I was having a bit of a clean up under the bonnet at the weekend, checking hoses, wiring etc, bit of polishing... & I noticed there's a sensor plug just where the crankcase breather pipe joins the main rubber air intake tube. I unplugged the plug & noticed that the plastic piece it plugs into seemed to be just a blank! ie no connectors. Is this normal? what's this sensor for? Cheers, Robbo
  6. Cheers fella, presumably 8 x 15s would be ok with 205/50's ? Robbo

    1.8T vs VR6

Excellent point, exactly the thing that makes up my mind to keep my C when I think of selling, even after all the cash I've had to throw at it, it still looks so damned good  Cheers, Robbo
  8. Hi all, now I'm back in 'keep my Corrado & spend more cash on it' mode, I'm looking at lowering it & reverting back to 15's or maybe 16's, (it's on 8 x 17's at the mo, & is a pretty hard ride even on standard suspension!). I'd like some phat 9 x15s but would like to know if the original 205 50/15 tyres I have on my speedlines would be ok to use? & which tyres would be best if I plump for 9 x 16's? Cheers, Robbo

    1.8T vs VR6

I'm having a dlemma too at the mo. whether to keep ploughing money into my VR or take on a little 20VT Mk4 Polo project I have in mind! The 20VT is highly tuneable, & relatively cheaply. The VR6 ain't the most durable engine VW ever made (especially now most are over 10 years old and have done 100k+. But you only have to drive a sweetly running  VR to realise how addictive they are! The best things in life are usually somewhat flawed  Cheers, Robbo
  10. Cheers Blue Nothelle, I'll give it a whirl. Would it be ok to run the 12v direct from the battery (+ve & -ve) ? or does the 12v supply have to be switched via ignition? Cheers, Robbo
  11. Hi all, been having some probs with the cam sensor on my VR. I keep getting cam sensor errors on diagnostics, so have now had 3 new ones with no cure. So I had all the wiring checked out & that's all ok. I've checked to see if the trigger wheel is still there (after having a recon head fitted a few months back) & it is. So is it possible that the trigger wheel could be faulty/damaged? Also how is the trigger wheel attached? is it just a push fit? (there seems to be 2 locating holes), or does the cam sprocket have to come off? Does the trigger wheel have to be fitted in a specific way in relation to the cam position? (it looks as though it would fit 2 ways, 180 degrees 1 way or the other) Thanks chaps, Robbo
  12. Hi there, any engine refinishers should be able to supply you with new valve guides. I had mine done at a local place & they fitted bronze guides along with new seals. AFAIK the guides were peanuts. HTH, Robbo
  13. I'm going thru the same mid C crisis at the mo Jedi. I've spent around 2 grand on it in the last year & there are still annoying bits & bats to sort! Do I sell now or keep spending?!! I change my mind on a daily basis (usually a good blast in the C convinces me to keep it, & then something else will stop working!) Anyway I can't make up my mind what I'd get next if I do get rid. I've got a little Mk4 Polo 20v turbo project that keeps rearing it's ugly head  Cheers, Robbo
  14. Pretty sure mine's a seperate plazzy wheel with a magnet inside Kev, but I'm not sure how it's attached. Cheers, Robbo
  15. How do you remove the cam sensor trigger wheel from the cam sprocket? Does the cam sprocket bolt have to come off first? Cheers, Robbo
  16. I've also just fitted a new aux pump & the one I got (from the stealer) was slightly different. It had a wider lower plastic shoulder than the old one which meant I had to trim some of the lower rubber mounting to get it to line up with the mounting holes on the bracket. It works fine though once fitted. Runs constantly with ignition on, as it should AFAIK. Cheers, Robbo
  17. Sounds like it could be the thermostat housing has let go. Quite a common point for coolant leaks! That's the black plastic housing bolted to the front of the engine with the three sensors in. HTH, Robbo
  18. Hi guys, fitted a new aux coolant pump at the weekend (and pretty chuffed I am too, my diy experience being pretty limited up to now). Anyway after I'd finished & was running the engine to check coolant level & for leaks etc, I was having a good old nosey around the engine & I noticed a hissing noise coming from the oval shaped black plastic thing connected to the ISV. It seemed to be coming from the joining piece which connects at a right angle to one the rubber hoses. Sorry for the lengthy description, I should have taken a pic! I looked it up on ETKA & it's just referred to as a 'damper'. What is it, what does it do, & should it be hissing? Cheers, Robbo
  19. My Powerflow moves sideways to the left when it gets hot, & considering it fills the whole cutout, it ends up melting the bumper  Robbo
  20. Yeah DanA, that is a good price. I'm sure a while back I found somewhere doing them for £295ish, but I can't remember for the life of me where it was now! Robbo
  21. Cheers Jedi, keep us posted if you do another group buy, I'll deffo be interested. Robbo
  22. Nah... I've already junked the standard exhaust (it was knackered), the type of driving I do m.s. exhausts only last 5 mins! I'm sure I read somewhere that original exhausts were more like £400! A mate of mine had a twin Milltek on his R32 & it did sound superb, but I have heard mixed reports about the build quality of Millteks. Cheers, Robbo
  23. Next question then - anyone found any bargain price suppliers for Magnex? I've seen them retailing for up to £350  Matt buz where abouts in Leeds are you? I haven't seen you around, do you ever get over to Dewsbury? Cheers, Robbo
  24. Si, I've always had Jetex systems on my VW's in the past (not stainless btw) & they've always been superb. You must have got a duff one there. Cheers, Robbo
