I thought it was just mine, it's good to know you're not alone! :)
-
That would explain American car design then!
-
Would not doing this make the car run like a bag of spanners?! I expected it to be a little bit off with the Golf ECU fitted, but it was nearly undriveable. I've got someone who's going to fit a chip socket for me, so I'll see what the car's like with the Corrado management chip fitted.
-
I thought it would cost more than that! I'll have a look into it, thanks.

Rpmayne must have a different Golf VR6 ECU from mine, because from what he said he could swap the chips over. Not sure what to do now. I could either get someone to solder in a socket so I can use my Corrado chip, or I could find an ECU that already has a socket fitted...
-
The Golf ECU has the management chip soldered in, whereas my original Corrado one has a chip socket. Do you think that's the problem?

Fitted an ECU from a Golf VR6 (021 906 258 BK) today. Car starts and ticks over fine, but misfires and is very hesitant up to about 2500rpm. After this it runs better, but still isn't right. Is there something wrong with the ECU or is it just not compatible with my engine? Any ideas appreciated. On the plus side, the car doesn't cut out with it fitted! :) Thanks.

I had my VR in the garage for a diagnostics check a couple of weeks ago, and it turns out my ECU is faulty. The serial number on my ECU is 021 906 258 AG. If I replace this with a Bosch Motronic 2.9 (non-immobiliser) ECU from a Golf VR6, and swap my chip over for the fuelling, etc., should that work? I've done a search and had a good read of everything it came up with, but I'm just looking for a definitive yes or no answer! :) Cheers, Andrew.

I think people should at least have snow driving explained to them when they're learning to drive. It's pretty dangerous having a bunch of people on the roads who have absolutely no idea what to do when the white stuff starts falling!
-
Yup, that'd be me & my Dad!
-
I got woken up at 7am the other morning by two of my Dad's neighbours trying to get up the hill and out of the cul-de-sac they live in. They were revving the tits off their cars and just spinning the wheels, making a little bit of progress and then giving up and rolling backwards to where they started. Almost felt like going out and telling them how to do it properly, i.e. keep the revs down and change up as soon as possible, but couldn't be arsed! :)

I've got an OBX manifold fitted to my VR. Had absolutely no problems at all fitting it, quality appears to be good and it got rid of my blowing downpipe! :)

Cheers! :) Is a 16 row oil cooler not a bit heavy duty for a N/A VR6?
-
Where is that oil cooler kit available from? Seems like a really good deal!

No, you can only turn left or go straight on at the lights, there isn't a filter. If this is the case, then something's seriously wrong! I would never drive through a red light.
-
Bugger... I guess I'll find out what's happening in a couple of weeks! I'm not too worried about the points, its more the possible insurance hike that bothers me.

Traffic wardens round here have been using those sticky things for years mate... ;) I got a parking ticket in Glasgow last year that I didn't know anything about until I received a warning letter for non-payment. Somebody obviously thought it would be funny to remove the sticky thing from my windscreen... :?
-
That's what I thought, I didn't think you had to wait until the lights were actually green before you go! I'm hoping this is the case here. One of my mates was flashed by 2 speed cameras on the way up from Newcastle one day and he didn't receive any letters. Thanks guys, you've made me feel better about it all! :)
-
Well there is absolutely no way I went through on red, I'll just have to wait & see what happens. Thanks for that Zippy, good to know!

I had a little look on the internet and apparently its a £60 fine and 3 points!

There's a two lane, one way road just along from my flat that has 4 sets of traffic lights dotted along it where other roads cross over. One set of traffic lights has a camera set up next to it. I approached these lights this morning in the right hand lane, they were at red and there was a guy stopped at the line in the left hand lane. I slowed down to a crawl and as I got near the line, the lights changed to amber. I went through and probably crossed the line as they changed from amber to green, but the camera flashed twice at me! Is it pretty much guaranteed that I'll receive a fine and points? I always thought the cameras only flashed if you went through on red. Fingers crossed! :)

I do 50 miles a day in my VR just getting myself to work and back and only really enjoy driving the car at weekends, but I'd never dream of selling! Used to have a Mk2 GTI, but sold that to buy a 1.0 Polo when I first moved through to Glasgow...worst thing I ever did! The Polo was great for fuel economy and running costs, but just didn't do it for me, hence the Raddo.

Dunno..but if I ever go to prison..I want it before I have a shower. Excellent!

Saw a Nissan Micra convertible thingy just outside of Glasgow on the way home from work yesterday, but I didn't think they were out yet?
