  1. I've never done them, but i notice that they go into fairly short pockets, so that'd be right!
  2. According to Bentley- 70 Nm/ 52 lbft
  3. Yep- thats the kind of numbers I was getting- just didn't have any benchmark to compare it to- thank all :salute:
  4. Can someone tell me whats the 'usual' oil temp?
  5. Yeah- no more photos of the car thanks, I just want to see Barbs. Here's a photo of my girl- she hates cars
  6. Here's a photo of the H&R's at maximum height- looks pretty good, but still bone jarring on rough roads
  7. Just came across this thread- man, that's some job you're doing. I'm crapping myself for you over the paint job- it HAS to be right - top marks for all the effort- and where, WHERE did you get that quality GF?? Really looking forward to the final shots..
  8. Aaw MAN!- what a difference- the old battery made the engine turn over like an asthmatic grandpa- and I thought that was just how the VR6 sounds. Now it bursts into life like an angry wasp- magic! Happy days
  9. Some impressive cars there- 4motion, S3, 24V VR6 stand out for me- but in some ways the Mk2 GTi's probably best, just as pure driving experience- much more raw. The silly Astravan 200ps I've got is quicker in a straight line than all the other cars I've had before- but the flimsy 205's were best fun(in my memory anyway   ) Enjoying my 'new' Corrado- once I've got it fixed up the way I like, should be great. I've done thorough soundproofing, am about to refurb leather, then its fix the rattles and squeaks, then get the minor paint bits fixed (few chips/blemishes). Latest thought is having the dash finished in matching cream leather- will make it feel much more special inside, getting away from hard black plastic. Hmmm- obsession is around the corner..... :nono:
  10.   a real purist!!!! Wow- never adulterated with inferior brands!! (learner car doesn't count) You'll get seven stars on your profile.
  11. Ok- I'll shut up quietly :notworthy:
  12. Sorry- coilovers gone. Now, Bedford van not long after Corrado?- get a grip man- and don't do that again. :nono: 325?- had a lot of fun with those when I had the 205's. They got the last laugh though- they're probably still running, bet pug's aren't :norty:
  13. Thanks all- got one from a 207 GTi write off- plenty power, fits nice and best of all...free. Thanks for help/offers though
  14. Good thread here on VW unit, but basic parts the same- will give you good info viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59659
  15. Yep, the old all-alloy MI-16 was some motor- it just wanted to hit the redline every time- loved it. :notworthy: Then they flippin' well wasted it, gave it a cast iron block, variable intake manifold ...like the VSR... and it just sucked. More low down torque, but no joy at the top- disaster. Made the S16 and the 405 le mans a terrible disappointment. The 205 chassis was brilliant. At high speed though, the 405 was far more stable- though the bodykit had a hand in this. But the prize for best chassis had to go to the 309- along with the ugliest..UGLIEST..I say ugliest.. hatchback ever :gag: Ah well.. they don't make em like that anymore :pale:
  16. Many thanks- smarties in the post :salute: -under ten minutes- this forum is the dogs wotsits!
  17. My '95 VR6 battery is cuffed- the one I bought with the car isn't fixed down and is maybe the wrong size anyway- can anyone tell me what power rating it should have and/or sizes? I'm timing this to see how fast I can get answer- a free packet of smarties to the winner :)
  18. Sorry- already swapped for standards with donjon- doing swapover early next week. My sister had an XS same time as my GTi's and I often drove it- funny thing was that it was sometimes better to drive on a twisty B road than the 1.9, up to a point. The slightly softer and longer travel spring/damper setup made it much more fluid until near the limit where it just didn't have the poise of the 1.9. ................which brings me back nicely to my first point on coilovers  If driving at less than at the limit, more travel can be better. And at my advanced years, I dont tend to drive at the limit anymore . Well, that's the official line anyway.............
  19. And Jamie- thats a worrying fetish for VW you've got there, with a sprinkling of Land Rover- not bad head count for a handfull of years though :salute:
  20. Maybe we should start a forum with discounts for old farts buying OEM springs? :shaking: Heh Heh Heh. Interested in comments on springs though- needless to say it looks good with coilovers, so ideally I'd like to be lowered a little from the sky high standard, but still not too firm. I'll PM dukest for advice on what he has- thanks
  21. Thanks- yes I saw the bit about using my car parts and a vainly hoped (!) you now had an ongoing 'set' to use as exchange. If you can source a set, could I do an exchange with you where I bought yours and you refunded whatever they cost you for mine once I sent them? If not, I'll try and source meantime. Mines is a VR with the hump. The Storm trim is identical to standard of the same year. I've used the 'clinic' refurb before and it allows you to completely redye and finish the leather. See http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leathe ... Change.htm However, if you need to buy a skin anyway, I'd be happy with a nearish match. I'll PM you my address if you want to send swatches.
  22. I'm about to 'furniture clinic' my seats- I've sent off a sample to them for matching- does that help? If you had some leather that I could refinish, if it's not too perverse for me to refinish your brand new work. I'll be glad to take your advice if you let me know what you think
  23. Read the posts and want one- too good to be true  I've got a storm with cream leather- can you do me a 3-piece console?
