  1. Are those orange HT leads? Been looking for some for a while...
  2. Mine lives in the footwell behind the driver's seat - if I need it I'm going to have to get the door open regardless (and I rarely have passengers in the back) so I figure it's worth the odd clunk as I go round corners! The sleeving seems a bit long if anything, so it holds the end of the wires at quite a tight angle as they exit it. The wiring has a bit more movement on mine as the battery is a Bosch replacement and the metal retention clip doesn't screw down low enough to grip the protrusion on the base very well. As well as recrimping the end of the wire I'm going to try cutting a slit in a rubber block and fitting it over the bracket so the battery can't slide left-right. Hopefully then it'll stay together! 3. Brand new, perfect fit and not fifteen years out of date (!) if you buy the ones I pointed out here ;) Stone

    vr6 lee wanted

I've got some ABS rings you can have for nowt if you want them. Replaced both when my rear wheel bearings / brakes / axle bushes were done hoping to get the ABS light off, not that it made a blind bit of difference  Been on a few thousand miles but other than not being very shiny any more they look pretty fresh... If you really want new they're approx £9 each from http://www.vwspares.co.uk, that's where I got mine. Stone
  5. See if you can get a lighter right foot installed. I hear it's cheaper, but I've never been able to get it to work
  6. Had a nasty breakdown earlier so I thought it would be worth warning everyone! Was on my way to work (at 60 on a single carriageway A-road) when the dash went blank, radio turned off and engine died - I found the hazard lights inoperative a second or so later - just rolled to a stop at the side of the road. Popped the bonnet before jumping out but no smoke and a cold battery so I relaxed a bit and rang the AA. Luckily I still had my hugely padded hi-vis jacket in the boot which was doubly handy - not only because it was sodding freezing and I'd forgotten my coat but also as a bit of warning to the traffic, which miraculously continued to miss me for over 20 minutes. Anyway, the AA dragged me up the road to the next layby - we'd narrowed it down to wiring already (failed alternator would have kept running off the battery and my alternator warning light works, battery wouldn't cause it to die) but almost immediately found the culprit - a single thick wire, red with black tracer. to the positive battery terminal had parted ways. The failure was under the insulation so not visible until the last strands gave way, but it was a little tight (routes into a thick black insulation sleeve running behind the battery) and had obviously suffered metal fatigue. The last four or five strands were a little longer so were the last to go - it was very misty and I was only 5 minutes into my trip, so I had the front and rear fogs and heated rear window on: must have been too much current for the last section which (luckily!) went fusible-link on me. On inspection the the insulation was bubbled so it must have been running hot for a while. If it hadn't been under tension when it went I could easily have been looking at a loom fire. Therefore - please check your permanent live feed at the crimped end for any signs of weakness, and renew if necessary! I was quite surprised everything is distributed from the same wire - more ingenious German Friday-afternoon engineering - but if it splits you could be left stranded on the middle of the road without hazard lights, or stranded in the middle of the road without hazard lights with your engine bay on fire! If you aren't already carrying an extinguisher, please consider it! Could be the best £40 you ever spend... Stone
  7. I'm quite chilled, it's our excitable friend here who's wound himself up. Not only is the ISV damper not a catch tank but my inlet's had that connection between the two blanked off with a blob of sealant which is why there was confusion. Anyway, I'm expecting to find prices out later :) Stay tuned...
  8. Seems like a good place to ask the question - I'm planning to have a glass-out respray this year, but I'm a bit worried they're going to smash the rear windows getting them out. I was going to have both of Stu's but he validated my fears by breaking one  What's the best method? I'm guessing they're obsolete now - go through a bunch of breaker cars trying to get them out whole, leave them in during the respray, prayer, voodoo sacrifice? Stone
  9. Another vote for C&R, they are cheap and helpful, good combo! I got my 312/mk4 kit from them. Double-check your caliper fitment first, there are at least 4 known ways to attach the hose depending on what mood VW were in at the time ;) Most seem to be banjo fitment in either 1mm or 1.5mm thread pitch - but if you get the wrong ones C&R will post you out some new ones. Stone
  10. Do you not find it a bit far back? Maybe I just have short arms
  11. Lots of scope with a grey car since everything matches :) If you're not feeling brave enough for a bright colour then I'd vote silver - I think it looks nicest on the more traditional BBS rims. More subtle to paint your calipers in something eyecatching!
  12. No catch tank on mine! I hate to say it but you've put an awful lot of effort into slagging this off, if you've already got a Samco kit why do you even care? Just leave us to it. I'd quite like to go back to watching the telly if thats alright  Stone
  13. That's the PCV one, so no. I've updated the first post to show exactly what we're getting. The vast majority of us are running unmodified ODB1 engines so there's no point in us having it, it just makes the kit more expensive. If you do want one, simply ask Roose for it! It's the top-centre hose on the pic of the Golf VR6 kit. Stone

    BMC CDA for VR6

Where did you mount it then? I used less than an inch of my perforated mounting strip; bored out the end hole slightly and tucked it onto the top bolt for the aux belt tensioner. Probably better attached to the strut tower as I've seen others do though - if you don't do the tensioner bolt up tightly enough the belt squeaks and you have to remove and refit the lot to tighten it... Stone
  15. That's what I forgot to ask you yesterday! What does the MAF connector look like on your VR6 loom? If it's a four-pin one and you start cutting other bits off then I'll nab it...
  16. Luckily Paul is more on the ball than I am and pointed out you were both wrong! The hose you thought was missing is the one labelled 'water pump hose 2' - it's slightly different to the Golf one (the feed from the expansion tank is smaller) but it was definitely in there. The only reason the Samco kit has 9 hoses is because they include one to feed the PCV hose straight into your inlet, and unless you fit a catch can you don't want one of those as it will spray oil all over your inlet and throttle body and clog them up :) So, as I said at the beginning, we're getting 8 hoses. Well done for confusing me  The tooling should be ready for the first set to be made on Monday and after they've worked out how much silicone it takes for a kit they'll let me know the prices. Paul says 1 month. Stone
  17. Fittings to hold the engine plastics on top of a VR6 (the trisquare ones): N 905 081 01 Bolt w/multi spline socket head M6x18: £0.72 021 133 915 B Shouldered nut w/multispline socket head M6: £3.25
  18. If it's for you house you could look at network cameras - my NAS (big hard disk array that my backups go onto, tied into my network so I can get at music/films/files from anywhere) supports CCTV with motion detection, remote recordings, sending emails on alerts etc. It's a Synology DS211j: could be good if you were after some backup space anyway? For the rado I saw this the other day: link Could make for quite a neat install - supports two extra cameras as well as the ones on the display, and records continuously to a SD card while you're driving. Could be handy for the insurance arguments? Also I'm pretty sure there'll be a permanent live feed into the interior light under the sunroof control panel so you could wire it in there... Stone
  19. That's why I asked :) Is cylinder 3 760mm regardless of model? Stone

Regals are the cheapest if you do decide to buy new - that's where I got mine. As well as the 85-150 kit you'll need a bit of silicone hose to attach it to the MAF - 83mm inner diameter by 100mm long works well. You need a jubilee clip at the MAF end but the CDA end will be very snug, might need a bit of wiggling but it will fit :) Stone
  21. My HT leads are all too long and I'm getting fed up with the excess flapping in the breeze. Can't seem to find a definitive answer on what lengths they should be, does anyone know? Cheers :) Stone
  22. You're quite right, that's almost as obvious as the USA side markers being under 'additional brake light'... Thank you both :thumbleft:
  23. As above - anybody got a part number for the 12-point fixings that hold the ignition lead guides on? I need both the male and female type since half are missing and the other half are mangled from plonkers using allen keys in them! Found the plastics in Vagcat but the fixings are still eluding me... Thanks! Stone
  24. Dark (Mystic?) blue C on the B530 north of Ampthill at around 0830 this morning, didn't have time to wave but cheered my commute up :) Any of you lot?
  25. Still got the rear badges? Chrome or black? Condition?
