If you were a little closer I would give you a hand checking it over. A compression test would be my first choice if its smoking badly.

About £30 for the pulley maybe £6 for the belt

eBay for the pulley. Got my belt from gsf. You will need a 6pk1680 belt.

I have a pipe in my garage Think I have the hoses from the throttle body vent and rocker cover breather. Not sure on postage due to size and shape

This looks like it could be a good move. With handbrake handles an plastic covers becoming harder to find. The mk4 item doesn't look out of place and are relatively cheap to get hold of.

There is a sherry red g60 for 1200 on eBay at the moment. Looks to be a front end insurance salvage. Been there for a while... Seller may move on price.

Yes that's your idle screw that's missing. Should be able to get one from any similar era 16v -
As the pump ages the seal becomes less effective causing the pump to attempt to prime for longer. A simple way to test is to switch the ignition off and on a few times before attempting to start from cold. If it fires straight away after priming 2/3 or maybe more times I would suggest the pump is on its way out

Sounds like either coil or king lead. Also check wires to coil are fine and correctly seated.

AVS car parts have always done me well. Search VW spares on google it will be one of the top options

I would try to find which end ha the play in it. Failing that replace both joints. The play should then stop
