1. Yes, I get that. What I meant was your Corrado is very nice, and way over a new vw from their boring range of today. For me personally, it's very impratical to drive every day. I'd rather bicycle to and from job. Faster, easier and fun too. Other than that, I think it's meant to be used. Cheers, Redfox.
2. Hi all, I have the old G60 1991 old wirenet. I don't have the two seperate extra gauges for the centerconsole, but I do have the new two-in-one version from the VR6. I managed to get a bit of the wirenet from that car too. No idea how to connect it, so I can read out the oil pressure and voltage. I read old threads, but didn't get much wiser. The VR6 gauges have a 4 leg connector. I have that piece on the wireing from the car. I do not know if there's anything that I can connect it to in my car. Any good ideas and how and what to do? What about the engineconnection? I think I read something about an extra unused wire floating around in close to the oilfilter or somewhere around that area? As I can see it from the plug behind the VR6 gauges, there's a black/yellow, a brown, a blue/grey and a blue/yellow. This is on picture 1 here: The brown from this end goes into a unified multi brown, that becomes a bit thicker and goes along with the blue/grey into a black connector as in picture 2 here: then the blue/yellow goes from the VR6 extra gauges into it's own yellow connector as in picture three here: And the last wire the black/yellow goes into the big flat blue connector, which can be seen in picture 4, here: I am not 100% sure of this, but it looks like it. All help is very much appreciated, as I am a nerd in electrics, and I really would like this to be connected as per original, if there's any chance of that. Thanks, Redfox.
3. agreed. Very nice indeed. Cheers, Redfox.
4. Terminate them beatnicks! Grrr ;( Hope you solve it. Washed, waxed and cleaned today. Cheers, Redfox.
5. Owen, Your Corrado is way too nice to be drivin it, because VW's of today will envy you your nice Corrado. They have nothing of interest these days on their programme. Just boring family pushers. Tell me why on Earth should anyone buy a new VW (apart from airbags), when they may have a Corrado which is SOOOOO much better driving and a LOT nicer? Good job. Cheers, Redfox.
6. I think there's another reason for the VR6 coming and the G60 going. And that is the fact that the Corrado was VW sportscar, and they said at the time, that they had high expectations for that car. The problem with the G60, even though it's the model that drives the best in comparison was, that a propper sportscar have to have a big engine. Say 3 Liter or above. The VR6 pushed out 190 hp's easily without tuinng and that's a hard salesargument. A 1,8 Liter engine is not seen as a real sports car engine (at least in the eighties), even though it would be fast (minus ****el engines). As for the servicelife and reliability, I think all engines have each their problems. The G60 was so easy to tune a lot, and many people went over the top and the collapsed. The VR had cracks in the spark plug threads and problems with chain tensioners. So what, they are sportscars, and they have to have two or for times the service than a normal people carrier. The same goes for all other sportscars. Shifting managements and middle level leaders take different roads and chances. So did Porsche when they said that the 911 is old and out and the 928 in new and in. Not so. The 944 had similar chain tensioner problems with the 944 16v and lacked pull in low revs, and is actually a very peaky engine like the KR and PL vw engines. The Corrado is later told not to have been a success, but hey, a sportscar will never be a people carrier and a consumerthing in big numbers. And the model was on the market for 8 years. Not bad at all. I personally haven't driven an abf engined car, but the 9a the pl and kr. Maybe, just maybe it was a market choice (or a try to make the market), that had the abf as a "modern" multi engine like it was seen from many other manufactures, and the kr/pl and the later 9a engine as the more performance/enthusiast oriented engines? Just a wild guess. I think that vw from time to time suffers under the nasty audi brand, and this puts a stop to many good ideas/cars/engines from vw themselves. Interesting thread anyway. Cheers, Redfox.
7. Last week I washed and cleaned, and while doing that, an elderly couple passed by, and they smiled and commented on how good it looks and that's certainly a nice and low car ;) ½ hour later the same happened with a lorry driver pasing by ;) Yesterday a family passed by while I was washing the Corrado again, and the father stopped, took a long look and then told his wife and two teenage daughters, that this is a special rare car and it's in a very nice condition indeed. Yesterday a neighbour told me, that a carpenter he knows who live close by, have asked him what car it is and how on Earth I keep it so flashing red? Well, maybe because it IS Flash Red ;) I'd better go waxing it again today;) Cheers, Redfox.
8. If you mean me, I haven't any. It could be an idea to talk to for example Time Roettle in Germany of what he is doing to his cars. Cheers, Redfox.
9. Looks very nice and tidy. I would use black screws to avoid flashing them. Very nice install indeed. Looking forward to the finished airride, and to hear how it performs. The second bootlight is also a good detail, as one in one side was never enough to see what is down there, when reaching for something in nighttime. Cheers, Redfox.
10. Here in Denmark, there is one specialist who raced 16v KR engines years ago. He knows exactly what to do with a KR cylinderhead and cams. There are some people who claim that they can port, but in fact the dyno shows little or a worse condition. Head gives 8-10 Hp and cams 10-12Hp on a 2L block. The casting on the KR head is better and more well suited for tuning than later heads. Then exhaust made by hand and optimised ignition setting. Should see you 165-170Hp or around that.I have a trustable dyno on that from years ago. That engine was fast in a golf, and it needed a dent in the hood to be there ;) It's still a peaky motor, and need revs to perform. Loose that 150 kilo steroe, and you are wel off. 15" wheels with no more than 195/50-15 is well suited. Get lighter camfollowers and springs etc. Titanium is okay here. A stiffer engine mount will prevent the engine lifting too much at start, and therefore prevent a bit wheelspin. A tad thinner oil may give a bit too. Gearbox oil swap too for the sake of it. The fat inlet manifold from the KR engine may also give a few ponies, when ported finely together with the gaskets. I did and it worked just fine. Sod the electric Recaro leather seats and add only two carbon Recaro or sparco front seats. Bin the interrior and the sparewheel etc. Improve your gearshift, or, and you'll need an extra box for this, learn to shift upwards with out clutch. Saves you few meters every time you shift up ;) Get a better diff. Overly wide tires kills your acceleration. So does big wheels. Many are heavy, so get forged lightweight wheels. And light tires. Or Toyo R888, but prepare to put money aside ;) And no rain fun. Often it's only when you combine different tuning, that the power comes. Just sticking a K&N or similar to the engine, most often lowers the Hp. It's been seen on many dyno's. And oiling that filter kille or unsettles the air mass measureing. Not a good soloution. Btw, I threw my K&N panel filter away and run a standard paperfilter. That is also when the dyno showed the 177 hp's. There is a reason that Michael, Manfred and others use this engine for German Bergrennen. Look at youtube: I seriously doubt many can follow that ;) and more. If not inspired, then chose a G. Drives better with better balance. Mine is a 1991 and have the "P" head and the matching inlet manifold and exhaust manifold, and have 177 Hp completely standard. That was a very conservative measureing the guy told me, and he does not do anything else for more than 25 years, and really many VW cars including many G-engines. So why take anoseheavy v6? Nah. Much more to be gathered without making violence to the g-lader. I will make these mods over time. And I DON'T want my engine to explode. Of fourse, there's no guarantee ;) Each to his own of course. Cheers, Redfox.
11. Portent, When I ordered a 861 803 899B, I thought I would get the big old style wingnut as per golf II, but got the small white one (very small). That turns out to be the wingnut that holds the toolset N 011 175 2 Yes, there is a strap, and it's like on other models vw's: 191 011 247 A, which is a golf sparepart nr. That's it. Sent you a pm. Cheers, Redfox.
12. Run 10 miles, then gardenwork, then Corrado-time later today. Cheers, Redfox.
13. When I look at ETKA it's not any morea wingnut (the big one) but a small white mini two-sided wingnut. I have both. Cheers, Redfox.

Okay, here's a few pics of the bmw seats I bought: They have much bigger backrest side bolsters, and not only that, but they are much more fat than the Corrado Recaro ditto: Furthermore, there's a nice extra function, which is an inflatable backrest lumbar support, on both seats, to give perfect support: I've sat in them, and the bigger bolsters give a much better side support, and the fact that they are thicker as well, makes it much more tight. I guess that story of the Corrado being made for bigger sized americans (no offence) is true... ;) I can understand that in the Corrado there's less space to enter to the backseats, and therefore the seat bolsters need to be smaller, to allow the backrest to fold more flat against the seatbase, to allow the person to enter into the backseats. I couldn't care less. I absoloutely don't want passengers in my car, other than my wife in the other front seat. And that's fine for spirited driving, let's say ;) Certainly the bmw ones support a lot more and is more narrow in the bolsters. I've measured all over, and other than that, they have the same dimensions. My Corrado Recaro bolsters are in good condition, and not deformed. Like with the Golf 3 Recaro seats, the supports are also differently shaped to allow bigger persons, but in the same time loose support over the Golf 2 Edition 1 Recaro seats, which I had. The idea is now to take them apart, and move the backrest side support, to be covered in black leather, over to the Corrado Recaro seats, and the inflatable lumbar support as well. The idea is also to keep a strict oem look of the seats, and retain all electric funtions, namely the heated function and the two movement functions, and naturally the sewings and pillows of the Corrado Recaro's. Hmm, I guess it'll take a while. More later. Cheers, Redfox.
15. And that is why they are not taking chances too much developing more interesting cars, such as a new Corrado instead of the dreadfull scirocco mk III. When VW Motorsport existed, they were seen as some kind of hooligans within the comapny, but they took chances and did some interesting things. The new vw racing not so... Cheers, Redfox.
16. Okay, so I guess that I don't need to look for any around here then. Cheers, Redfox.

Thanks ;) Put on a new loudspeaker grille on the drivers door today. Old style model. Nice and black with no breaks. Washed and vacuumed the Corrado and testfitted the BBS RS's to see how they sit. Nice and easy both on the inside and the outside, without offending anything. Now I need to take the BBS RS's apart and polish them, bolts etc. Will take a while. Had trunk carpet off and cleaned up a few specs of dust after having transported a few things the other day. Lubed the rubbers that the rearshelf hang in. One sound less ;) I think I am in dire need for a shortshift, and the changed parts at the gearbox end took some slop, but not all. And the throw is very long indeed. So time to look around for a soloution for that. In my former Golf II I made up some brackets, but not able to on this one. The mech is the old style before facelifting, so no added weight at the gearbox end. Cheers, Redfox.
18. Matt, Did you manage to source a new tilt lever handle? Cheers, Redfox.
19. Mine is Flash Red. And it is from July 1991. so your list is not correct. It means that Flash Red LP3G was also sold in 1991. Cheers, Redfox.
20. Hi Dave, I have the Corrado G60 from July 1991, before the facelift etc. So I have the old style mechanism at the gearbox end, and I have changed all parts I could there. Inside the car, I don't know if they are the same? Does your mod work on mine too? And do you have a mechanism htat I could just buy? I shall be happy to send you money straight away. ps: I haven't managed to source a bracket for the generator plastic cover yet. Best wishes, Redfox.
21. Unfortunately my garage is not that big and I also keep bicycles etc. there. And I am a bit away in Scandinavia ;) I think the comments are actually not too far away. Remember the time when a family of 4 plus a dog and a cat plus 3 weeks of vacation luggage could be in a fiat 500 topolino? Now, even when a young woman becomes pregnant, the motorcycle has to go, the stereo has to go, the big loudspeakers has to go, the garage has to be emptied of garage stuff, and instead keep her mothers savings of babystuff, the Corrado has to go, the ... You get the point ;) No offence to the mothers in law btw;) I am sure you'll do the right thing. Anyway, a Lotus Esprit Mk 1 series 3 with turbo is a nice thing too. And only two seats, and a mini trunk, but takes up the space of two Corrado's. And everything is glued on - keep falling off ;) And it have the same tendency like a Corrado to drip fuel on a hot exhaust ... ;) Cheers and best of wishes for your (soon bigger) family, Redfox.
22. Mookie, I experienced exactly the same on my G60. Out went the K&N and the v8 roar. In went the paperfilter and snorkel. Totally quiet and boring (well, not totally, but in comparison). Out came the snorkel, and voila, a great subtle sound and perfect filtration. No more oilcrap in the charger that sands it down in no time. Never again I'll have a socalled sportsfilter from whatever brand. I've had Sparco and K&N. Always kept them clean and oiled them very lightly with the K&N set. Never again. Happy soloution. And as DriverVR6 says, no heat from engine to be sucked in and make less horsepower etc. Cheers, Redfox.
23. Washed, cleaned, polished. And then quickly getting into the dry before next shower from above. 10 degrees cel. Brrrr.... Cheers, Redfox.
24. Get some good locks, tell everyone who may talk to or know someone dirty, that it's the slowest car ever on the planet. Drive a gear higher than needed and in the same time slowly passing the usual suspects, get it out of sight=out of mind allways day and night. Never leave your car in a parking lot, parking house when shopping or going to the cinema, cut some wires and install secrec flip switches. Take the ignition feed wire off. Take the rotor off (if you have one), but leave the cover on. Lock it. Also when just getting a small thing indoors. Alarm it. GPS it. Keep a angry pitbull next to it. Even when you beat them with a baseball bat, then rip your knee in two, preventing the usual suspect from actually driving and running away, while you end his misserable life. Never tell about your car on an internet forum, or lay out pictures on boasting sites. Park it different places from time to time. Get a good insurance that actually may give you money and not just write it off as crap when you need it. Park your daily behind it, so that have to be removed to get the Corrado out. Camera with sms sender. Be a close pal with the scumms most wanted mechanic, so they know if they touch your car, they will never have their drog-paid slades worked on again (actually works). Don't trust anyone. I mean anyone. NEVER keep any tools in the garage/next the Corrado. Do you actually want to help the buggars? An aluminium bat next to bed. 4 locking bolts on each wheel. Never have nice wheels. I know. Hard to avoid on a Corrado. Keep a silent or near silent exhaust. Loud pipes save lives, but also helps stealing cars and motorcycles. Choose your neighbourhood carefully. Too rich and you will have visitors. Too poor and the boys in da hood will trash everything. Don't keep a sign outside on your garage, that says: "Corraod parking only. All other cars will be removed". Funt to look at, but not fun when your Corrado is gone. Cheers, Redfox.
25. Good luck with your baby well on it's way. Just don't sell the Corrado. For a long time, you won't be needing it anyway (the practical car). So be a supermodern dad and watch over the baby outside, while doing good work on the Corrado. That's the best way to learn children good taste (Corrado's). Take a stroll by foot and air the new family member. Then to drive in the city, get a microcar, or an electric car. This way you'll make sure, you're a frontrunner in both environmental stuff, practical stuff, and still be the supercool sportscardad. Your kid will love you for it. If you, on the other hand, sell the Corrado now, by the time you're ready to get another one, it's probably illegal to get that type of car, bla bla bla. You know, the usual government crap stuff. And you will have a polo (thought it was a game, right?), that is no longer cool, is using as much petrol as your Corrado, and is just an old model car, while in the kindergarden, your kid's friends dad, will have the Jaguar e-type, the MG midget, the Herald, the ferrari 308, the Corrado.. ;) And your wife will never see her husband dissapointed and frustrated for not having a proper sportscar, and you'll save lot's of money not having to buy upgrades to the polo, trying to built it into being a sportscar, which it will never be, no matter the cost. But the Corrado on the other hand, will just zip past you on that freeway, just as you and your family were cruising along it to get to a nice summerhouse weekend. And all you'll think about is that flat smart Corrado that blasted away on the freeway. How to get one, irritated for not having the internet available near you to look through the sales adds, family will wonder why you'll look so distantminded etc. And holiday money will be used later on to get another Corrado. And you know what they all say here, about having a Corrado again: it's like getting home ;) Was that enough sweettalk to get you convinced? (I hope) Cheers, and best wishes, Redfox.
