  1. Now, if only all children were like that, there would never ever be a problem from any wife about having or buying a Corrado ;) On my job, when a bunch of children aged 6-10 passes my Corrado, they stop and simultaneously says "cool Corrado" before they walk on :) A matter of good upbringing. One of the little ones, 5, he for the first time saw the spoiler raising, and asked me: "Is that an airplane"? Priceless... ;) You can guess how that influence a colleague of mine who drives a ford... And when they get to see the spoiler raising or lowering, man that does it. They all forget about their parents bmw's, and cries, WOW! ;) Another day, a little girl commented on my pretty low frontspoiler: "Ah, the is only room for a snail to pass". Don't know if it was actually the spoiler or the speed she commented ;) Abdul: go get it, you know you want one. Now is the right time to buy. Cheers, Redfox.
  2. Sounds like a very nice car. Cheers, Redfox.
  3. Hi dragon green, Thanks. Yes, it han be seriously tough to drive on molested nodern roads. btw just for clarification, I call the bar between the upper suspension mounting points for a strut brace, and the arb is below the car and are anti roll bars. All will aid the driving experience. Perfect with that Eibach. I think it's the best ever made, at least I did not see any that are better so far. Keep it, and if you ever sell the car, keep the Eibach strut brace. Did I mention to stick on to it? Cheers, Redfox.
  4. When a brace is working, the car does not actually lift off as much. It puts more weight into all four corners. Some braces work and some don't. The thicker and more solid, the better. It may be a nice design when something is detatchable, but in the same time, it should also be bolted together over as great a distance as possible. That means that even though aluminium is structurtally just fine, the heavy dimensions on the bar itself is mostly lost because it all ends up in one tiny stainless (flexing) steel bolt, or a thin flat piece of sheet metal at each end. What you want to do is triangulate that bar, and it'll have a noticable effect = more speed in corners and s-bends. Same goes for the front. Some models are adjustable, and again it adds up into just one tiny bolt - flexing. The bolting onto the chassis should be with two or more bolts in each side, and over a great distance, to help less flexing. One the Golf 2 and the Corrado (and even worse the Golf 1), the front track arms holding the brake hubs, holding the wheels are only suspended in two points, and that is even on the same horizontal plane. In an ideal world there should be double arms, and tracking ball on each side mounted the other way around to give better and more correct wheel holding while cornering and moving suspension. The track arms should be horizontal. The track arms when installing new ones can be fully welded and powdercoated and then some nice bushes. While we cannot really install double arms, we can at least brace the suspension components with an extra brace underneath, that bolts to the front sub frame. hard bushings all over on the front also tightens things up, incl the engine, but to a limit, where we don't want the engine to break something, or peoples fillings to fall out ;) If you install all three seriously made braces plus some thicker arb's both front and rear, you can raise the cornering speed quite a bit, and really feel what the wheels are doing. But the margin of security going from flat fast cornering, to sliding, is small, and a lot less than a standard car. I've tried these things on both Golf's and Corrado's and they work ;) Loose the heavy speakers and amps, they just slow you down and destroy balance of the car ;) Next would be to weld the sunroof firmly to get propper structural strength in the highest point, but maybe it's a bit over the top ? ;) also for me. Loose big heavy wheels, and get the lightest money can buy. There's a noticable difference in steering = more fun = less time for listening to a big heavy stereo. Hope it may cast some light as to why something does not allways work as intended. Btw. I think it is also Wiechers who makes something in carbon. Link to the front lower brace: http://www.dcperformance.co.uk/cheap/670800/volkswagen/wiechers-sport-strut-brace/gw514003.html and the rear carbon ones are also in the program, though I personally have doubts about the carbon ones, as the are some sort of glued = less strength or possible failure. I my world the old out of production Eibach front top brace was a piece of art and works. I originally went to the UK just to gent one before the ceased production, for my former Golf 2, and carried it right over onto my Corrado ;) Can sometimes be found second hand. Don't take my word for it, it's just what I found out myself, but I an sure more here, experienced the same. When buying something, go to a local motorclub and ask if they do this and that, and what it does to the cars performance and handleing. I did, when I was racing a bit with a friend years back, and a true motorsports store is also helpfull. Books on chassis setup is also helpfull, and al in all it can trandform your ageing Corrado to be quite a driving machine. Finally get a 4 wheel alingment every year at least, it transform your cars driving. So, first brakes and chassis, then engine. That'll sort you out. Cheers, Redfox.
  5. Here's my side of the story. A few times I smelled petrol inside the Corrado shortly upon starting it, especially in the cold. I thought mglp, what is this? So I ordered new fuel lines (the bits in the enginecompartment), and new clips. The clips that VW sell now, here at least, is a screw type that is prone to losening or otherwise failing. I spoke to a VW friend, who told me to immediately get the other type that you clamp once and for all. The thing is, that from the outside absoloutely nothing was visible, but I could still sense petrol dripping sown on the manifold. There are fuel lines on both sides of my G60 engine, and I changed the lot. Upon taking the old ones off, I could very clearly see that they were totally cracked all over on the inside, therefore leaking petrol. I also looked into this lightswitch fire thing, and isolated it, along with the lamp in the glovebox and the boot plus the rooflamp. I allways clean the enginecompartment of any residues, leaves, oil mist etc. I have two fireextinguishers in the garage, one big and one small plus a fireblanket. Plus one in the car. At home I have three extinguishers at various places, incl. one under our bed. And I allways keep my keys in the smae place, or can smash a window in either room, to get out. Btw. I always turn off the computer, tv etc. at the wall plug, when not in use. Years ago my brother was driving a vw buggy and in his club they had several accidents with members vw's burtsing into flames. One guy Thor, was cruising on the freeway, as his engine burst into flames (a 1303), He only just made it out of the car before it was totally in flames. He never got to his fire extinguisher. I just felt to share this, as sometimes you only have one chance to walk away. Cheers, Redfox.

    Haters!!!

Nah, Denmark. So sorry for my bad English. It's all about our patern of behaviour. Some we are conscious about, some not. But the level of personal integrity is based on some values we call inner and outer, our own and the ones brought on to us by society. If they are not in tune, we can get strange antisocial behaviour, and reactions like described in the thread, occour. The thing is, that we can chose to do something about it. But sadly there are many factors that influence our descision on that. I just felt to fill in on a theorethical side of things, while having small talked away earlier on the thread ;) There's a reason for everything (ultra short version ;) ). Maybe it became unclear as I listened to Joe Bonamassa taking it away on a guitar in "Woke up dreaming", while I wrote ;) Cheers, Redfox.
  7. Nice read and nice for once to read an article, where they don't list up a lot of things that goes wrong. We all know anyway. I personally prefer the G60 model, but maybe, just maybe I should also buy a VR6 before the government forbids them ;) In Flash Red naturally! Now, where to park it? Hmmm, problems problems... Cheers, Redfox.

    Haters!!!

Or seen from a socio-psychological point of view, that some people who do not have a high level of personal integrity may represent that with an certain form of insecurity that expresses incoherrence between on one hand inner values such as ethics, moral, upbringing, ones personal boundries, and on the other hand outer values such as societys demands, other peoples opinions and action, the law, ones own action, tooling (read: schooling) etc. If there is a divergence between those, they may grow a type of social behaviour that can have several forms of manifesting, like the obediant type, who never argues, just do what they are told untill one day a triggering mechanism bring them to explode in the face of others. Could be road rage, or seeing someone in a Corrado and thinking "he's a prick, I'll go molest his redicously low car", giving you the finger etc. The fact that very many people spend an increasing amount of time on social medias, in stead of interacting directly with other human beings, can sometimes increase that, because they only get about 20 percent from the language, and on the internet for example, it's "free" to say any sort of thing. That is, that you don't have to face someone because of your expressions. They lack the reminding 80 percent which is an interpretation of our body language, facial expression, tonality and many more. This is also sometimes seen as the reason why people do a certain action, and afterwards deny it. Because they are subjected to their inner values, who is in conflict with their outer values. Some people even gos as far as recogniseing that objectively they did it, but that "me" is not their real "me" so for now thay claim to not having responsability. Another mechanism is that when one part in an interpersonel relation gives up his or hers responsability, the other unconsciously picks that up and therefore gets a double responsability, like "I don't like the way you drive moron, so now I'll show you how it's done"-type of thing, when they bring their ego into it. Many of us are brought up in a society which is based on a level of obedience, rather than our own conscious reflection of what we should do in a specific situation, which is where society is going towards now, and this can give growth to a way of expression that is sometimes seen as envy, general frustration, anti social behaviour etc. It is not a determined patern of reaction, but merely an explanation, that as adults we should work lifelong with our understanding of ourself, this leading to reflection, which again gives space for modifying ones own action, which again leads to an increase in ones personal integrity. People with a high level of personal integrity does not feel the need to express themselves in an antisocial or misbehaving manner, they just do what they want in an integrated way, while taking care of their own wishes, and others ditto, integrated. Theses mechanisms are more prone to act if a person is put under a lot of personal stress, like family burdens, crisis (being that personal or on a society-scale), job expectations, heavy economy and so on. Personal integrity have no relation to social rank, personal income, succes or lack thereof, but is a function of ones upbringing and lifelong self analysis. Like Kevin said, it's not a personal thing against yourself or your Corrado for that matter. Ha ha, good one, I vote for the pink peugeot ;) Cheers, Redfox.

    Haters!!!

Now, take for instance a Ferrari 308GTS/GTB. I think most people would agree that it is a sportscar. I think many people would say it is also a very nice looking car, if not one of the best looking cars ever. Even I would like one. But there is a problem: it's not fast. Or rather, it is not fast enough compared to a brand new Focus ST or alike. The Ferrari is for example a 1978 model, where as the Focus is only a couple of years old if not newer. The question here is then: Is the Ferrari lesser of a sportscar, just because general development have taken a family shuttle to an even higher performance level? And is the Focus ST a sportscar? The answer is no. Of course not. The Ferrari will allways be a sportscar, and the Focus will allways be a fast(er) family transporter in it's own right. They were built for a purpose. And at the end of the day the Ferrari will be way too much of a mouthfull for an ordinary car-driver. Both in driving and in maintenance and practicality. Exactly the same with a Corrado, though it is not nearly as limited as a 308. But a 4 person car? Never been that. HGP in Germany have released a new 730 Hp turbo version of the Golf. I know the 650 Hp model of the Golf 4 very well, and it's never been a sportscar, even though it's faster than most. What it represent is a compromise for the ordinary man, who want something fast, underdog styled, and yet very versatile in doing what ordinary cars do most: bring people to their job or carrying a lot of crap. I think it is this fact that some prople cannot accept with their ego. Why not just enjoy it and smile to the people who sacrifice a lot of what normal cars do, to drive a sportscar. And knowing that they at some point in their life may debate this standpoint of driving a sportscar with their partner etc. etc. And then there's the other problem. The thing is that sometimes some sportscar drivers (or owners, because they don't dare to use the car for what it was made for) look down on the fact that the Corrado for example, were after all a VW, a carmaker that built for the people, even though it is made by Karmann. That is where the smell of the Italian horse hits your nose. Where the Ferrari 308, the Corrado, the Elise and many other special made cars excell is not that they are good at doing everything. Not at all. But that they are good in doing ONE thing only. Driving with no compromise. Cheers, Redfox.
  10. Funny, but when I look at the sneak peak of said calendar, I see some Corrado's off the roads. Must have been driving them too fast in the s-bends, I suppose ;) Cheers, Redfox.

    Haters!!!

Hmmm, that's a funny one. I don't think that I ever met someone who is envying the Corrado. Well, apart from a very few, but they said it with a smile. Of course there are a limited number of people who may wish you dead or worse, just because you drive a car, never mind being a sports car. But that is more because of their quite enthusiastic view on save the whales/Poles/tiny miniature monkey on a micro island on the other side of the planet. Nothing to do with your car being a Corrado really. Then there's the petrolhead types, and most of them are too young to know what a Corrado is anyway, because they follow the latest trends in space shuttle spoilerkits (and think they have a true sportscar when they install a huge turbo... well, no) for their ford Ka's/C1/107 whatever, even though they have an ever nailpolishing girlfriend who told them to sell their floor speakers/sportscar/life, and they should at least give a thumb's up when seing one who is not a victim of their girlfriends ongoing iphone messageing: "well, you have you sell your car, now that we've been going steady for 5 days and we'll have a baby soon and my minidog needs a diamond necklace, and my 5 girlfriends don't like "our" car......." Well, that's because they are too stupid to appreciate one, never mind that they are not even able to drive one. (I vote on taking off all powersteering to get safer roads). Nah, the one who actually know about Corrado's are the soon to be middleaged ones, who either had one when they came on the market, or wished they had one, but are now confined (read: sentenced) to death in a vauxhall 4 door saloon, and who is usually not out late at night when we are driving our Corrado's, plus the sunshine rides which are pasing them too fast to ever see what is was that blasted past them. But when they do recognice one, and they are in a position to admire them, they walk over and begin to chat and appreciate the man/woman who is actually a thinking individual, and who are enoung grown up to choose a propper car themself. Nice talks come out of that ;) In two years of Corrado ownership, I've only seen two other Corrado's once on the roads in my country, they are that rare. I don't think it's because they are off the roads, but merely a result of the above. I actually only got nice comments every now and then on my Corrado. Would that cast some light on the matter? ps: my own brother is dead envy but he every time chose a mega long 5 door estate and fill it up with crap that he never use anyway ;) Well, it's a free country, but I would chose a Corrado any day with it's super driving abilities and sheer FUN! I also use mine for fast holliday driving and there's ample room for a tiny bit of luggage, rest can be bought on the trip anyway. And honestly, who need all the crap that people bring along on vacations? No, I thought so. Cheers, Redfox.
  12. I agree totally! Really nice! Looking foward to see the luggage compartment. Personally I would like to have another dashboard, and have it covered in the same leather as the seats etc. Cheers, Redfox.
  13. I did mine matt black and they stand quite nice, also in use. Can only say good about their products and the price you want for the set. Wish I could have them sent (Denmark)... but that is too expensive though. ;) Nice to have some extra. Good luck on the sale, it's bargain and very easy to repair the colour. I've shown a bit too in my thread. Cheers, Redfox.
  14. Soory that you sold your Corrado, but of course it's okay to move on. I've had a Mk. II for many years, and mine was one of the first ever produced Mk. II from 1983. Never had any rust at all ever. Now it's 29 years. I've only seen rusty Mk I, III, IV and scirocco's. Of course there are nice ones too. Personally i'd go for an old type Lotus Esprit. Even lower, even more unstable, but even more fun to drive. But parts are easy to get and plentiful and dirt cheap compared to my local vw dealer. Daily is a bicycle ;) Good luck. Cheers, Redfox.
  15. I went out to look at a house today, and the salesperson commented that it was a rare and very nice sportscar. Even in the rain ;) Cheers, Redfox.
  16. Just washed and waxed plus all the treatment on inside and outside plastic, leather treatment etc. on mine yesterday. Going to look at a few houses today and guess what... It's pouring down... Oh well, got to do it all over again when weather get's better. Cheers, Redfox. ---------- Post added at 8:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 8:48 AM ---------- Just washed and waxed plus all the treatment on inside and outside plastic, leather treatment etc. on mine yesterday. 17. Was driving last Sunday in North Sealand (Denmark), and saw a nice white Corrado passing me, as I was driving my own red one. The only I've seen this whole year... Cheers, Redfox.
  18. Sorry to hear that, but tell us a bit more on the Ultima project? ;) Cheers, Redfox.
  19. Ultra nice looking engine cam cover. May I know what it is? Very tidy and good looking engine compartment. May I suggest a cover for your battery? How about one in carbon? Cheers, Redfox.
  20. Had two small ones the other day. One the gas station a guy passed me after refilling his car, and he say my Corrado and stopped, winded down the window and told me that it certainly is a very nice car, pitty they don't make them like this any more etc. Smiled back and ageed. The other one was at the motorway (freeway or whatever) when cruiseing at 140 (km/h) another motorist came up on my left side and thepassenger nearly fell out of the window just by looking at the Corrado, gave the thumpbs up and pulled back. Cheers, Redfox.
  21. Ups, that's because I just clicked on another nice looking thread below. Happened to be e quite old one then ;) Sorry. That just shows that one have to think carefully of what to answer before writing, but 9 years was maybe too long to think matters over, or Corrado's never go out of fashion or ? Cheers, Redfox.
  22. Hi VR6, If it's for a Golf Mk II I would go for 15" versions, as they sit better in my humble view. But I've seen and driven one (G60 Golf II) with both 16" and 17" and it was okay, but slightly boring steeringwise. I mean it didn't handle as sharp as a Mk II Golf should, once set up propperly. On my former Golf II I kept 15" RM's and later on RS, plus all the usual mods suspension wise, and it handeled razorsharp. The Golf II I have tried that had 17" OZ's had to because of 330 mm discs front and 280 rear. That could stop it in a giffy!!! ;) To me it helps with very light wheels and don't hang me for it, but I think OZ superlegera is a light wheel. Others may be able to confirm this. I had a set of RM's which had torn bolt threads, because they couldn't be tightened, and couldn't be airtight, but I repaired them in the end. So I would surely go for RS items. Copy versions are not as strong and more heavy. If one doesn't care about all that, just throw a copy set on, of course. But if handleing and weight is important, then grab a set of RS originals. Look into bmw's as there are often set's that may fit for lesser moeny. Some Mazda's like the MX-5 also use 4*100 patern. I would not say don't get the RM's as they are nice and not heavier than many other wheels, but just remember to be very very carefull if you take them apart, and rebuild them. Btw, the weight of a set of RM'sover a set of 17" BBS RC which is also forged is immense. As far as I know BBS developed the cross patern of the spokes of the RS's because they were the strogest patern they could make for racing. Being heavily involved in racing, BBS let this knowledge flow downstream to us the ever willing to pay a lot endusers. I had the original receipt for my former RS's originally bought at a vw dealer by a woman for her Golf II 16v, and she paid no less than 19.000 dkr which means something like 2500 gbp in 1987! That's a lot recalculated into todays moeny. That included a set of BBS valvecaps, a BBS wrench to take off the centercaps, and a set og Conti sport contact (if I remember correctly). in danger of sounding snobish, but not at all meant that way, I think BBS makes super nice wheels which is also very good quality and is actually round ;) Cheers, Redfox.
