Same here after repairing my sunroof.

Did this on my old valver, into the side of the airbox using custom made Ali spigot and caravan heating pipe. Will most likely do it again on my current valver.

Can I convert the older VAG-COM connector to the later type or can I buy the older serial or usb cable? Thanks

Same thing happened to me & about the same amount of damage, make sure you claim, it may not look bad but you never know what other hidden damage may have been caused.

I think one is for earlier cars and the other for later. Here's the part number you need.

If it's just surface rust like mine, I used Kurust from halfords then finished with Black Hammerite. Looks ok!

Martin, I recommend removing the handle completely which means removing the door card. I've heard of people taking just the handle out as far as it will come whilst the central locking cable is still attached but usually the cable is clipped inside the door so it may not pull out far enough. If the handle has been changed in the past then the cable may not have been re-clipped to the door therefore you may be able to pull the handle out far enough to change the striker arm. The problem with doing this is that when you push the cable back in it may sit directly in the path of the window coming down hence why it's clipped back. Dave
