Pulled my caliper carriers off yesterday and found - The tapered pins with the 'steps' are fitted to the upper pin hole, the bigger diameter straight pin with the flats are fitted to the lower pin hole. This is the same for both sides. Hope this helps.

Rob, not sent yet mate as I'm waiting for some parts to come in, thought I had them but the cupboard was bare. Hopefully be sending it Wednesday, is this a problem?

Ok great. I'l be swapping my rears for Mk4's soon so I guess I'll find out. Be interesting to see if they match with yours.

Yes I did it to my old 16v (now owned by Laser Mark). The only 'specialised' process was getting the hubs turned down which I was able to do at my work. Although I think you can buy the correct hubs that were fitted to the Passat VR6 which they only ran for about a year. As Tom said adapters are the easy option, just depends on how far you want to go. So the three options are - 1. As Tom is doing - complete widetrack conversion 2. As I've done - modified VR hubs etc 3. 4 to 5 stud adapters Good luck with whatever you choose.

Time for an update - As some of you will know I use my VR as my daily which is nice as I get to drive it everyday. Now that's where the problem lies, now that fuel prices have risen and still rising it's getting expensive to run as a daily and to be honest I was falling out of love with it because a) it didn't feel special anymore and b) I wasn't happy with taking it through rush-hour traffic every day. So I made the decision to go diesel and practical and bought another Passat, this time a TDI 130 Sport Estate. I immediately took the VR off the road and started writing the for sale advert. In the back of my mind I didn't really want to sell the VR but it made sense and I'd made up my mind. It needed an MOT before I could advertise it so made the necessary arrangements. Meanwhile I was enjoying the economy of the Passat and although being a big car it returned very good mpg which made me really happy as I could feel the financial benefits straight away. I was also enjoying the benefits of heated seats, climate control, cruise control and the practicality of my first estate car. All good, so I thought. The VR was safely tucked up in the garage awaiting it's final days and awaiting me to write out the for sale advert. Now during these last 6 weeks of not running the VR I've been helping Laser Mark and Purple Tom with their cars and enjoying it still with the thought in the back of my mind that my VR will soon be gone and at least I could 'keep my hand in' with friends Rado's. Oh no this wasn't enough, I wanted my own....................so that's when the real pain started, I now REALLY didn't want to let the VR go especially after popping into the garage to start it up every now and then. So I had a job on my hands to hold on to the VR and get it back on the road - not an easy task with a Mortgage, Wife, two teenage girls and a Passat to run. After some brainstorming I've come up with a plan which will enable me to keep the VR and more importantly get it back on the road. I won't have nearly as much spare cash to upgrade stuff but it will still be loved and cared for. The plan from now whilst it's off the road - 1. Remove rear beam, blast, powdercoat and fit new bushes. 2. Fit MK4 rear calipers with new discs, bearings and braided hoses. 3. Fit R32 front bushes. 4. Refit alarm, it was removed to tidy up wiring when I changed the dashboard. 5. Modify gearshifter for a shorter shift and fit Stainless gear surround. 6. Powdercoat alloys that I bought cheap, they've been chemical stripped and tidied up. I think tyres will have to wait. That's about it for now as I'll be out of cash but hope to have it back on the road in about 2 months so I can enjoy the weather, show season, the friendship of fellow Rado owners and get to some local meets. Anyway here's a pic of my Passat.

Did anyone find out which pins went where?

I love the lakes, try to get up there every year. If there's enough interest in a 'group weekend' then I'm interested.
-
No not at all, PM on its way.

Could one of the mods sticky this please? Thanks Dave

I changed the fuel filter during my ownership, receipt should be with the paperwork.

VR6 belt tensioner bearing replacement - how to.
daves16v replied to PhatVR6's topic in Suppliers Forum
Jim, had the same thing with mine, changed the bearing - no change so now thinking it's alternator bearings. -
Remove the securing screw, then you should be able to remove the handle slightly enough to be able to see if the striker has broken.
-
Might just be the handle securing screw come loose, it's on the end of the door, usually a left had thread on the driver side. PM me for a kit IF you need one. Dave Edit - oh do you mean the pull part of the handle or the main body is loose?

Thought I'd better have my say as I've been up to Tom's quite abit recently. I take my hat off to you mate, the work you're doing is just awesome and like me you're not cutting corners but getting everything spot-on in terms of build quality. This should minimise any problems occuring in the future. Don't hesitate to ask me or Mark for anything else, we're really happy to help. Oh and everytime I start reading your daily update I seem to start off in a Geordie accent, dunno why lol

Door handle repair kit..........THEY ARE NOW AVAILABLE

Sounds like you may have a lock problem if it doesn't work with both fob and key. You may have disturbed something during the repair process or something has broken. -
Anyone looking to fit A/C to their Corrado? Offered free
daves16v replied to Purple Tom's topic in General Car Chat
Tom, I'll take it off your hands tomorrow if Mark doesn't mind loading it into his car or I'll come up in the 'ssat. -
Yep same here, done it on 2 Corrado's.
-
Yeah this outing has been disappointing, clear to me that they're running out of material hence the short 6 show series.
-
I had a very low biting point when the clutch lever arm broke (previously welded not by me). I replaced both cylinders before I got to the real problem and also didn't have any fluid problems so my guess is that your lever arm might be bent.

For your Info I bought a new VAG aux pump couple of weeks back af £118 but haggled 10% off, got it for £106. Still hurt my pocket.

Had the same happen to my old valver, I think they glue them on from the factory. Yeah as said above, I used mole grips to break big junks off, just take your time.
