  1. plugs were changed before it was parked, cant say how much oil its using as i have not driven it much at all. its only got part history so my one worry is it might have more miles than its showing.
  2. the blue smoke is major bad!, the car had a full service 2 months ago, plugs are brand new.A friend of mine said somthing about ruining the plugs by leaving the car standing, surly that is nonsense.
  3. I've had my car for over two years now and apart from the usual service and one coil pack change i've had no problems with it at all. The car was stood for about a month in winter and when i started it was throwing out blue smoke it coughs missfires and smells of fuel read bad. it drives but misses like mad, also when you approach a junction it just turns off for fun every single time. Im now unable to run the car on a day to day because of these problems. The question is where now?, do i get the engine rebuilt which will cot 1500 at least shall i just swap it for another one. The one thing i thought is if i got a valver engine fitted i could run the car for a year or so with that and on the side re-build my VR?
  4. I have been told that all bbs wheels have the same size centres, is this right?, just thinking i might want to change to 16's and all i'd need to do is change the centres.

    8x17 ET Question

    I was looking at some bmw style 5 wheels, they are 8x17 and have a 2 inch dish, thought if i swapped the centres for my rs301's theyd fit. Just got some measurements and the centres are different size............bugger :(
  6. im just doing the front struts with new mounts. on the fk's you get a locking nut and under that a big nut that hold the top plate in place. on my standard struts you have a locking nut on top but the nut that holds the top plate on has a built in washer so the rubber mount doesnt come off. I fitted the new mount on the fk tighted the nut they give you with it and when i pulled on the mount it comes straight off??? So i then used the nut off my standard suspension that has the built in washer and the mount is fine (dont pull off) is this right should i use the nut off the old strut and bin the one that came with the fks?????????

    Andy Brookes, if your running 8x17et 35 and you think you might be able to get 20-25mm spacers on the rear, thats equivalant to a pretty low offset,

  9. rite i have bought new top mounts and bearings, what do i need to take off the old suspension.
  10. how much are new top mounts?, i remember reading a mot failure sheet and certain my car failed on excessive play in top mounts this was just before i bought it, how can i tell just by looking at them if there worn, the struts are now out of the car.
  11. rite done the rears and im quite confused about the front, i thought it would be simple remove refit job, dropped the front strut only to find a rubber mount on top of it, it wont pull off so me thinks right put a spring clamp on it undo the nut remove the mount. But does that mean i gotta do the same for fitting. i mean put spring clamps on my brand new FK's :roll:

  13. ****update***** Just started on the rears first, i've got both struts in and the car is sat on the ground. Both of the top rear mounts have a 17mm nut at the very top, then a metal plate, under that another 17mm nut that sits on top of the rubber mount. I have changed the rear suspension before and when it came to tightening these 17mm nuts they would tighten like an ordinary nut on a thread it would have a point where it stopped. Now on my fk's i put the rubber mount on, put the first nut on and tightend it as soon as it touches the rubber and i wanted to tighten well the whole threaded shaft turns it didnt even feel like it tightned much what am i supposed to do??????...........apologies for the lenghty post but i needed to make my self as clear as. Thanks
  14. Just got my coilovers and im examining the front ones as far as i can recall my vr standard strut has a little metal piece on one side where the brake flexi clips into. MY coilovers have a metal piece but its bent side ways so if your looking at the fitted strut its pointing back to the engine.................it dont look right do i need to bend it out?
  15. Just need to check this with you guys, whilst the car is on ground undo the top nut with a swan neck spanner whilst holding the centre shaft with a allen key. jack the car up and undo the bottom bolts?

  18. steveo29, i had the same problem when i fitted mk4 calipers to my VR the pedal would be firm when the car was off start it up and it nearly touched the floor, i bled the whole system 3 times, the master cylinder, the abs pump and even the clutch slave. The pedal feels a bit better and the car stops fine, but ive decided that when i come across a bargain g60 im gonna get the whole braking system transfered on to mine and scrap the abs malark
  19. so they all have cam position, crank position, engine speed sensor etc etc sensors

I've heard that earlier vr6 engines came with a distributor rather than a coil pack what other differences are there between the two engines, surly the CP type will have sensors for timing of the engine and the D type wont. can somone tell me roughly how many sensors do each of the engines have for the engine to operate. Reason i ask is i'm considering an engine change soon and if i go for a replacement VR then i would prefer somthing with less electrics and sensors that start playing up.
  21. My car has had the front screen changed at some point in its life but there is very light stone chip marks in the door glass and the quarter glass what can i do to get this sorted as its a bitch trying to polish the glass.
  22. sorted it, the battery light is now off and alt seems to be charging too
