When you fit aftermarket alarms, they just tap in to the vacuum pump to operate central locking which includes both the tailgate and petrol flap.
-
Do you have one with nice tight linkages? The short link on mine is all over the place.
-
Yes I think that's what i'll do. All of the official technical data I have looked at state an 180 degrees turn so it must be correct. I done my rallye engine a few years ago and would have torqued them to that spec also as I would have used the same Bentley manual and all was well.

Alright guys, A quick question as i'm not getting much luck searching. The Bentley manual I have has the conrod cap torque setting at 22 lbs plus 1/2 turn (180 degrees) This seems a lot, even for stretch bolts. Much of my searching mentions 22 lbs plus 1/4 turn which of course is a huge difference. Anyone shed any light on the subject to clarify? Cheers.

If there is no sign of fluid leakage then it'll likely be ok. I'm doing my bay just now too and just painted up the servo and master.
-
Depends how bad they are. Yours look like the have a considerable amount of filler from a previous repair so you would really need to get them all back to bare metal to make an assessment. You could do a temporary touch up repair but it likely wont last. Corrado rear arches are not really known to rot much so getting a cutting out of a breaker shouldn't be too much of a problem if needs be.

1991 Tornado Red Corrado G60 Daily / Project
Gti_Jamo replied to Gti_Jamo's topic in Members Gallery
Hey guys, been over a year since I updated this!! Still got my Corrado although it's been off the road since December. So I wanted to sort it out once and for all and get the engine bay done and get it running and performing well. If you read the start of this thread you'll remember I melted a piston and have been running a 1H Rallye engine for the past few years now. It was always a temporary measure but it done a good 25,000 miles without much issue. Aslong as you kept the oil topped up anyway. This all I have left of my original PG block. I sold the remaining pistons, along with the cylinder head ages ago. Fortunately I have since bought replacements to rebuild it back up as it is a good block. I've got around 95% of the parts there now. Including gaskets, new rings, valve guides etc. I rebuilt the bottom end on the 1H engine before fitting so will be using the crank out of it for this. So then this happened! And then this! I removed the dash because I wanted to remove the old inoperable alarm which I have already done. Will be replacing it at some point but have put all the wiring back to normal for now. Also makes it easier to remove the servo. But my main focus the engine bay. The paint is bad in here and a few areas of surface corrosion so prepped it all for a new coat of tornado red. Ended up going to town on it so prep extended to right under the front to where the subframe begins, wheel arches and chassis legs. Scuttle area too. That's about where I am up to just now. Going to redo the engine bay wiring loom, I have got some of that Tesa cloth tape that was used originally so it should all look pretty good once it's back together. I want to get the subframe back on it to get it rolling again first. Once the bay is all back together I'll switch focus to building the engine which hopefully shouldn't take me long. Thanks for reading! Jamie -
Anyone familiar with removing an old Cobra alarm?
Gti_Jamo replied to Gti_Jamo's topic in Engine Bay
Cheers mate. Slightly different model of alarm though. However this morning I got my head right in about it and found where the wire goes into the fusebox, roughly behind where the fuel pump relay is located. Just been snipped flush with the connector so couldn't see it. -
Hi there, Basically my alarm has never worked on my G60 and the fob for the immobiliser is broken so decided the best option is to remove the whole thing. Now I have removed most of it without any issues and everything was fairly straightforward, however I have one wire that was connected to the alarm module that I cannot see where it should go. It's a red/yellow wire that goes into the loom from the fusebox side and to the injector loom, I'm assuming it has a home somewhere in the fuse box but cannot see anything obvious.

Unplug oxygen sensor at connector on top of rear engine mount and see if it runs better. A G60 will run perfectly normal with it disconnected albeit not very economical. Unfortunately a genuine bosch sensor is expensive and cheaper ones tend not to last very long.

Joms are terrible, not even worth the 230 quid. The AP's on the other hand are excellent value for money.
-
Big shout to 'marks2' for sorting me out with some pistons. Well happy with them!
-
Yeah only the raddos in top condition are making any sort of decent money just now. Anything else isn't really selling at all.
-
I've used brake cleaner to clean oil out a charger before. But you'll need to kluber grease the apex strips before reassembly. You also need to consider where the oil is coming from. G-Laders are notoriously harsh on oil seals but oil can also get in via the boost return, even more so with a tired engine.
-
Don't think I've got anything off you before Veedubbed, not bought anything in a while. I was looking for a parcel shelf last time I think. Yeah I have a rallye engine in my Corrado just now but it has an issue with one of the bores. I was either going to bore out the rallye block to PG specs or just rebuild a PG block. You can't fit a rallye cylinder head on a PG block as the rallye has larger head bolts. Also the rally cylinder head has smaller inlet and outlet ports, smaller valves too over a 'P' head i'm sure so is restrictive in regards to air flow.
-
Cheers for your replies. Just let me know how much you guys are looking to get for them then i'll decide. As i'm always looking for a bargain, don't want to insult with too low an offer. Incidently, I have a set of 1h rallye pistons, what kind of value is them? Jamie

Collecting parts to build another engine for my Corrado. I've got pretty much everything except 4 pistons so give me a shout if you have any to sell. No silly prices please. Must have conrods and end caps.

1991 VW Corrado G60. 1.8 Supercharged Tornado Red 160,000 miles MOT Feb 2017. Thinking about selling my G60. My plan was to put it off the road this winter for full restoration but a bit tight on space at the moment. Excellent little car and done nearly 20k in it over the past couple of years and has been very reliable for me. Currently has the engine out of a rare Mk2 Golf Rallye which is essentially the same, runs real sweet but uses a wee bit of oil. Stage 4 Supercharger rebuilt by Jabba 20,000 miles ago. It's runs a standard size pulley. Smaller pulley included but requires a shorter auxiliary belt to run it. Gearbox is excellent with no crunching. Underneath it has had loads of new recent parts including front subframe, wishbones, ball joints, track rods, drop links, new rear pads and discs, wheel bearings all round, Suspension top mounts, handbrake cables. drives great and tracks straight. Adjustable coilover suspension, quite firm ride. 16" Advanti SG40 alloys with 195/45's Dunlop Bluresponse all with good tread. Black cloth interior. Sunroof works as it should. Doesn't leak water and carpets are dry. Cherished registration plate G60 TST included and very much sought after. Paintwork lets it down and ideally needs a full respray as lacquer peel in places and paint is generally quite thin. It is quite bad around the windscreen frame where I painted it due to it needing some welding around the frame before fitting new windscreen. Few small dents and chips but it is a 25 year old car. Passenger door handle needs replaced. Underneath it is very solid with no crushed sills. It's far from perfect but still in very much usable condition and looks cool and turns heads. Price is what it is at £2500 so no offers and wont reply to any email offers. I wont consider selling it for any less. It's priced according to current condition. If your interested then come and see it. Reg number is worth £600 on its own. Open to swaps or part ex my way with something cool or retro. Subaru, VW, Vauxhall, Ford, Fiat, Alfa Romeo.

Relays! Gives you 2v more at the lights and makes a huge difference. HID's suck.
-
Those 20v engines do sound good and are easily tuned. However good running a G-Ladder is, I do miss having a turbo sometimes.
-
I didn't bother with it in the end. Went a bit mad there for a while lol, normal service has now resumed. I mean I like the Coupe's, but **** swapping my G60 for one.
-
Cambelts don't bother me, i'll quite happily get in about it if needs be but the paperwork I have seen shows it was done less than 6,000 miles ago early last year. Yeah fiat designed the body then pininfarina designed the interior and built them in Turin.
-
Cheers, Seems to be a bit of a mixed opinion on that thread anyway. I think they are quite good looking cars. Although designed by Fiat they were all built be pininfarina and apparently don't suffer with the usual fiat rot and are fully galvanised, a bit similar to the corrado. I've been doing my homework on the car as the current owner hasn't had it very long (less than an month) and has been a bit sketchy on the spec and details but have spoken to the previous owner who has been really helpful and verified where the money has been spent on the car so I know exactly how it was when they sold it last month. I agree though swapz is a terrible website, everyone trying to deceive one another and offload their crap. I'm not sure what to do. Planning to meet half way on Sunday so I will probably go just for the look out of curiosity.
