Sorry guys, but I normally charge to translate a 30-pager, especially as it's technical German, which isn't a 5-minute job to translate. This is a 1 hour per page, ie. 30-hour minimum job, unfortunately. I value my spare time messing about with my Roccos and Rados a wee bit too much for that. Sorry to disappoint, but I hope you can understand me ;-) Tempest

Well, there's a question for Schwebe at Karmann, then ;-) Tempest

My mate on the organisation team for the Karmann visit in Osnabrück has lying in front of him the official project completion report on the Corrado, albeit without the well-guarded financial infos. This nearly 30-page report does, however, detail all the problems encountered right from the very first pen-stroke in June 1981 till its belated market introduction as the Mk3 Rocco, for a short time called the Taifun, then finally labelled the Corrado. I'm going to get one of those, but, of course, it's all in German :-) Tempest

OK, here's an official VW press release piccie, but don't forget before you go drooling (I didn't, even despite the attractive angular camera shot to make the Goof look a wee bit aggressive), it's still a Wolfsburg built Golf, not a Karmann like our beloved and treasured Rados :-) Tempest
-
No way, the Rocco is definitely miles better :-) You are right though, that Ford's competitor at the time was the Capri. Press reports at the time, however, praised the superior handling characteristics of the Mk1 Rocco chassis :-) Tempest

OK: "Hi, I can't say that yet, I'd have to find out first. It's 60 within Germany (I assume he means Euros ;-) ), possibly 100? I just don't know. Regards, Domi" Domi? Dominique by any chance? There you go folks, we've got Doms alter ego

Reason is simple: The Germans have several road tax brackets, not just the 2 that we have (i.e. below 1500 cc and above 1500 cc engine size for older cars). The VR6 was just too expensive from a road tax point of view, and almost similar in performance to the G60 (for most anyway ), which was cheaper in road tax. Around the 95000-mark. It certainly is true that Rados are cheaper in Germany than they are over here, hence that could explain the "boy racer" bit. I do find that the 911 is an old man's car here, too, as I passed one in my Mk1 today, him looking at my stunner of a Mk1 Rocco :-), wondering what the heck it was, no doubt. i just boringly looked at his "run-of-the-mill" 911  Tempest

So what? Yup, someone on the German Roccoforum has just been and despite there only being 1 (in words: one) Rocco in the whole Autostadt :-( he spotted these 4 Goof Mk5 R32s, which will be making an appearnce at the IAA (Europe's biggest car show in Frankfurt). He wasn't allowed to take piccies, though. He said that the Goof had twin centre-located tailpipes, chrome grille (deep grille like the GTI, but all in chrome), 20" wagon wheels (what happened to the Eurolook?). OK, some more trivia, this time from Wolfsburg ... I drive a Karmann not a Wolfsburg :-) Tempest

You need that translating? Oooeeerr, 16s as well :-) Well, TBH, they're common as muck in Germany, as I've seen quite a few, and was initially taken by them, until I realised that I wanted something that's not common as muck in either D or GB (that's why I got rid of my BK299s ). Carry on bidding :-) I won't get in the way :-) Tempest

Just read on a German forum the number of registered Rados (according to their "DVLA"): G60 Total: 10616 With Dieselengine: 21 4-wheel drive: 2 female owners: 2.116 VR6 (905) Total: 3535 With Dieselengine: 2 4-wheel drive: 2 female owners: 596 16V (904) Total: 3.305 With Dieselengine: 1 4-wheel drive: 0 female owners: 773 2.0 (925) Total : 1.654 With Dieselengine: 0 4-wheel drive: 0 female owners: 450 There you go, another bit of useless Rado trivia from the biggest market for Rados (GB being the 2nd biggest :-) ). Or the bit about postage: 50-70 Euros. How are you going to do an international bank transfer, then, not knowing the exact amount? Other than that, just did the translation as requested ;-) Tempest
-
Not a lot of Germans have Paypal yet, as Ebay have only recently introduced that in D, it's worth asking, though. Tempest
-
Erm, wouldn't know  I'll definitely get bugged in Osnabrück at Karmann, where I'll have to do a 4-hour marathon smultaneous translation session, as we're guided through the factory and museum  Anyway: Postage is around the 50-70 Euros, insured. Pay by bank transfer or international money order, they're not my alloys. The alloys have no scratches or other marks. That was easy ;-) Tip: Don't do international money orders, do a bank transfer, Co-Op are cheapest at 8 Quid, other banks charge a lot more. Tempest

My mate in Germany, who some of you have already met (and those joining in to Karmann will meet again) has bought himself an Audi Coupe last winter and is really happy with it. I've driven his Audi this April just gone, true, the sound of those 5 pots is very nice :-) But we already had this topic around that time of year, i.e. back in April, see here: http://www.the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22555&lighter=audi+coupe with pictures of what we're talking about ;-) Tempest

Might look into a group buy at some point of time, format similar to my other popular group buys (rear lights and rear window spoiler), just waiting for a decent price ;-) Just for reference: This is what the Angel Eyes look like on light-coloured Rado (those that are joining me to Karmann will get to see this one "live"). CATs only became compulsory from 1992 onwards, so yes, if your Rado is registered before 1992, the emissions tests will use values based on a CATless car. When you then later drop in another engine, that does not alter the fact the car was registered before 1992, so again, emissions will be tested using values for CATless cars. My Mk1 Rocco, for example, has a CAT (as it is a German import using a 1987 engine, when CATs started to become tax-advantageous for Germans), but at the emissions test in the UK, I always get tested based on my Rocco being a 1981 vehicle, i.e. without CAT, which is why I always pass the emissions test with flying colours :-) Oh, and welcome to the UK and to this forum :-) Being from the States, why don't you get a nice US-spec Rado across, that would up the number of US-spec Rados slightly ;-) (see my sig below ;-) ) Tempest

There are 2 vacuum hoses at the rear of the TB (when standing in front of the engine bay). One hose leads to the ECU, and signals the boost level,. If this hose has a leak, the ECU cannot accurately determine the pressure in the air intake section, i.e. in the TB. The other hose leads to the carbon canister valve. Tempest

Workmates and the things they shouldnt say..
Tempest replied to TheWizardofOdds's topic in General Car Chat
You should have replied: "And thanks to my Rado I'm completely successful in my attempt, and blo*dy loving it, too! How about you? Happy with your life?" Tempest -
The Mk3 and Mk4 Golfs still don't do it for me. A car's gotta be boxy, have tight corners, wedge-shaped coupe, like a Mk1 Rocco, actually :-) Tempest
-
I would, but that's only because I'm Dutch  Tempest

Know the feeling. I'm fortunate or crazy enough to have 3 cars, all Karmann coupes (type 53s) and not to have to use any as a daily driver, although for the more mundane tasks the Rado soes get pulled out most, whereas the Roccos simply stay in their dry garages :-) Has a fair amount of DIY repairs on my Rado, and some annoying garage visits. Castrol RS 10W60 for me in my G60, same as many a fellow G60er over in Germany (higher autobahn speeds ) Tempest

Last chance to download pics of MK meet Jan 2005
Tempest replied to golddust's topic in General Car Chat
Yes, the only MK meet I've ever been to, and what a good one it was :-) A very nice day out in an otherwise dreary winter season :-) Tempest -
The Danish really need to pull out all stops to market some boring Huyandai, according to this video (wait till another window opens): http://www.hyundai.dk/ I can just see all those Danish folks wander into their Hyundai dealership asking where they can buy that gorgeous red car, a Mk2 Rocco with Seidl body kit and Rieger rear spoiler etc. 8) Tempest

You can be proud of your TDI lump, according to VW, as it's acceleration is apparently so incredible (as it says in the advert) Tempest
