  1. Because that attitude ultimately will kill your job, if your employer can find it cheaper elsewhere ... Sad but true, just heard that story recently again, where he Dixons group killed a few hundred TV- and mobile phone repair jobs in the UK, outsourcing it all to Poland, leaving these highly skilled workers in the UK stuffed. 2. Who won in the Corrado class (asauming thee was one)? Tempest
  3. Great weather had been forecast up till about 14:00 or so at the Shakespeare County Raceway, now for the 2nd year the new home for GTI International, so I woke up my Mk1 Rocco, met up with Jim in his gorgeous Daimler Mk2, and cruised to Stratford, where we were greeted and soon overtaken by all sorts of younger folk in their souped-up Goofs and Leons and whatever other new metal, that I personally have exactly 0 interest in ;) Once we had sorted out the slightly misleading signposting at the entrance due to which I as well as a few more visitors ended up in the wrong queue, I parked up in the Show&Shine, where I was told that I was the only entrant in a Rocco. That remained the case till 11:00, when the voting slips had to be returned to the Show&Shine tent. Apart from the odd Mk1 Golf and a few tasty Rados in the Show & Shine, the rest was all metal that just went in one eye, out the other  Sorry! Given that I was expecting to win something, and felt it was an unfair competition (with just the one entry in a class for Roccos), was one of the reasons why I made a premature graceful exit ;) Jim and I then visited some of the traders, said hello to Martin on the HIC stand, I bagged some bargains from the Listers VW Leamington stand (where the former parts counter manager of the Lister VW Coventry branch recognised me, as he had now moved across to the Leamington branch), met up with the SciroccoRegister gang on their club stand, watched 5 minutes worthwhile of sprints on the track when I got bored, and then returned home. A nice day out, but was it worth the 16 Squid entry fee? Maybe thanks to the bargains from Listers, otherwise, erm, no, but that's only IMHO. I am too old, too much into older VWs, need more entertainment than just a dragstrip, and an older visitor group to match my age  Pics say a lot more :) Tempest
  4. Just checked the club stand listing on the GTI Inters website, and the CCGB are listed, so, yes, turn up on the day, and ask for the Corrado Club stand. Tempest
  5. Did I read 928?? Listen to that V8-soundtrack, and you're sold: Nice and refined when idling and pootling (the 32 valve version anyway, the 16-valve engines sound a lot more meaty from the word go, but lack 20 PS), but then put your foot down :) Tempest
  6. Or alternatively TIPEC (The Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club), who co-hosted this event at Beaulieu. Went to local meets of both clubs when I was looking at which one to join, and decided for TIPEC. Tempest
  7. See here: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=84465 Tempest
  8. Anyone else up for this one, before I send off the application forms? Got 3 cars so far. Always a great show with lots of interesting cars, various brands, bit like the NEC Classic Car Show, only outdoor. Rock up, rock up, it's FREE! Tempest
  9. Yes, as long as you ask for the CCGB stand when entering onto the grounds, the marshalls should be able to guide you in. This is, however, subject to you buying the ticket on the Autometrix website, and then in the process selecting the Corraod Club from the menu that should appear. Otherwise the organisers may not have allocated enough space to the club. Tempest
  10. Looking at going possibly both days. Tempest
  11. Went off in the Landshark to Beaulieu today at the ghastly time of 6:30 in the morning, to first meet up with a few more 928 owners at a (not so) secret rendez-vous point, from where all 928s convoyed into the Beaulieu Museum to be able to park together. Cracking day, cracking cars, caught up with 928 owners again, perfect day then :) Pics: Tempest
  12. Have fun, off to Germany tomorrow :) Tempest
  13. Beautiful day, beautiful weather (fortunately did remember to pack the suncream lotion), what better thing to do than grab the keys for my Mk1 Rocco and set off at 7:45 (when on weekdays I normally get up  ) towards Weston Country Park, where Retro Mania has been taking place for the last few years alongside Dubmania. Upon arrival I was very pleasantly surprised about this event, particularly the Retro Mania bit. There was a very nice selection of classics from all different brands in the Show&Shine, where I parked up my Mk1 Rocco, too. Felt it was more suitable amongst the true retro cars present than in the Dubs Mania section, which admittedly sported some interesting metal, but more or less the newer stuff that you see at too many dedicated VW shows, which is why the retro cars section makes this show something else. I got to chat to the owner of the Mk3 VR Golf next to me, also has a Rado, and generally the owners of the metal in the Retro section was more in-line with my age :bonk: , so had a good time indeed  There were quite a few traders, some VW breakers, too, quite a few food stalls, offering a wider range of grub than normally found at shows, and there is the possibility of camping Saturday evening in a quiet camping zone, too. This event could be a good replacement for the sorely missed BVF :) Watch this space! Easy to get to, even for my Mk1, which is always a bonus for heavily modded Rados, there were also a few Rados dotted around the fields. Right, time for some pics: Tempest
  14. Been today, and not a bad event for a first-time effort :) Definitely liked the idea of being able to park up on the main square of Coventry, right in the middle of all the shops, so had maximum attention from those shoppers that also have a weak-spot or 2 for cars. There was certainly an interesting mix of cars, and because you could come and go when you pleased, the selection of cars was changing throughout the day. Although the main day event-wise seems to be tomorrow (including a cavalcade around the famous Coventry Ring Road, which will be blocked off in one direction just for the participating classic cars to drive on), there were already a few side-events in addition to the main event which was the car display on the main square. Some pics before my cameraphone batteries died: Tempest
  15. Not as much as I would have liked, but then it can never be enough. We did get a few fok walking past our cars, but given we were a bit away from the main runway where the throngs were all located, we did not get any through traffic so to speak. Tempest
  16. Blatantly copied and pasted from the CCGB forum: Tempest
  17. Might check this out, not seen it actually. Tempest
  18. Yes, ticket should be emailed, gave them your email address (the gmail one methinks IIRC). Not sure whether anyone has received their tickets yet, though. James Shillaw will make sure you cough up, mate ;) Tempest
  19. I think he means the indicators (turn signals) in the front section of the bumper, not the side (which are side markers like a lot of Volvos have): Tempest
