junkie 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Well not enjoying writing this but i got beat by a corsa.....? Personally i say it was down to my just about legal tyres and it been wet lol. Not sure if it was the one that is 350BHP round my way but it was stupidly quick and even, dare i say handled? the lad must av spent a fortune to make it do that lol. All i can say is that at least it was not chavved up at all which made a refreshing change, i still have a small amount of pride left lol.
double-6s 0 Posted January 12, 2006 no excuses. shame on you. i think that means that you actually have to start driving a corsa now ;)

Probably a 2.0 16v XE on throttle bodies then - they're more than a match for a lot of cars including Scoobies, I wouldn't be too disheartened if thats what it was. junkie 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Very possibly not that i know bout them but was thinking it could have been 2L turbo but to be honest i couldnt hear any dump valve or anything. anyone got a worst beat???
Ronan 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Oh well, might have been a 1.6 ecotec then ;) Not lost to anything embarrassing as of yet...
Not_Aircooled_or_Taxfree 0 Posted January 12, 2006 I nearly got done by a Saxo VTR, i could not nail the horses down when pulling away, but i soon realed him in!!!!!!!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 12, 2006 Try and remember how much Saxos and Corsas weigh compared to a rado! Rados are a lot heavier than their compact dimensions imply! Weight is the biggest killer of acceleration! Plus those Saxos etc have low 'city' gearing aswell. Most ickle little hatches can scare a leggy geared and heavy VR off the lights. Doesn't bother me, traffic light grand prix aren't my thing. They can have their moment of glory :-)
dinkus 10 Posted January 12, 2006 You might lose the traffic lights drag, but at least you look cooler doing it ;) 8)
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 12, 2006 Exactly, how many supercar drivers do you see screeching off the lights trying to prove something? :-)
DEL VR6 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Exactly, how many supercar drivers do you see screeching off the lights trying to prove something? :-) And that too against a Corsa! Next time, leave them to it. Its much cooler to pull away slowly knowing that you have a superior car.
Trig 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Totally agree, can't actually recall having a single race in my VR. Not many cars around here worth racing, few more in the summer but they aren't the racing type. I've seen boy racers in town at night though with there super loud exhausts and they do seem to have respect for the C, it is good that they understand the superiority. ;)
veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Never lost in my C, not really raced it tho... Beat the usual vtr, zetec s, escorts, etc etc...nothing really worthy tbh

veeDuB_Rado 0 Posted January 12, 2006 Sometimes when in my car or my mates when we go for a drive we take the p*ss outta boy racers at the lights, we look over at them "fast and furious" style, and rev the engines, then when lights go green we just drive away normally :D
sciroccotune 0 Posted January 12, 2006 but we have all done it! be honest. from time to time its fun to see the little boy racer cars cain you, and some times (most often) see you cain them lol. Remember the face of a mazda 323 driver when i killed him off the lights even though i didnt even intend to race but after green decided what the hey.....lol
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted January 13, 2006 I used to race off the lights all the time when I was younger but now I can't be bothered and I hate and 1st and 2nd gears in old VWs too :-) I just like blowing away chiefs on motorways that pull over and speed up. Trig 0 Posted January 13, 2006 Yep, all true. If you want to race in cornwall it'll be some sort of country lane chase, which can get dangerous... still fun though!
catch_twotwo 0 Posted January 13, 2006 Yeah not sure about zooming round country lanes personally..... Did it in a Corsa once (I was young and naive) and almost drove head long into a tractor round a tight bend.

chrishill 0 Posted January 13, 2006 Why demonstrate the obvious to immature nobheads, eh, kev? i dunno, i always got some perverse satisfaction from crushing their overinflated egos and misconception that a 1.4 fiesta could somehow come close to a 2.9 v6. I remember shortly after i got the VR I was driving through newcastle with a mate, taking him for a spin in the new motor but not being silly or anything, not planning to race anyone or show off. Theres a duelcarrageway with 2 sets of lights on it, about 100m between them. We stopped at the first set and an chav'd up 306 pulled along side revving away. I wasnt going to rise to the bait until the lights changed and he squealed away, he had at least a car length on me when my mate said something like 'go on!'. I caught and over took him in 1st gear, and was slowing down to stop for the next lights before I needed to change into 2nd . When they changed he pulled away normally :)
Jim 2 Posted January 13, 2006 lol - I think thats exactly it. When they FORCE you to prove it, and when they have a car full of mates, its worth it just to see them humbled. I had the same thing in my 2.0 16v Rado once - set of lights with a Fiesta full of chavs revving like beserk trying to goad me into racing. I just casually sat there and when the lights went left em behind. They were well behind before I was even into 3rd gear and the 2.0 16v isn't exactly a rocket ship.. dunno what they were thinking! But then I did get rather humbled by a guy in a stripped out Honda Civic once.. I thought it looked like a bomb but it turned out to be a 2.0 VTEC that was totally stripped and it left me for dead! You live and learn!
craigowl 0 Posted January 13, 2006 chrishill said I wasnt going to rise to the bait until the lights changed and he squealed away, he had at least a car length on me when my mate said something like 'go on!' Like that old carp or cunning trout, the response to baiting diminishes with, what I will call maturity and you will call Old Age! I would be lying if I said I had never responded that way years ago. Must be something to do with testosterone levels, acquired wisdom and the overwhelming desire for self-preservation that comes with old age. WE still want to prove things at 60 but, as I said, the obvious in a car is not one of them.
