Will I sell my Rado?? 24v V6 - PVW Cover Car Jan 06

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

After a great day at GTi Festival yesterday and after some interest in the Rado I am seriously considering selling the car to start a new project.

I am not going to sell it if I don't get a worthwhile amount for it as I love the car, but I am getting the itch for something new.

The car is used as a genuine daily driver and could be by anyone, or could be owned and used as a show/track/weekend car.

Its not a car that has to be owned by a specialist and could happily be taken to a VW garage, just like a MK4 Golf to be serviced/scanned etc..

Everything on the car works as it would in the MK4/TT from the climate control to the ABS. It drives like a new car and basically is

I have spent the last 4 years of my life on this car and believe its finally complete. However with a different set of wheels it would be a totally different car so there is always scope for change.

So would anyone out there buy it and how much does someone want to give me for it?

Cheers

Jay

Having seen it and more importantly been in it, I can vouch for the fact that this is truly a very special car.

The quality of workmanship put into it is absolutely top class and more to the point......evertything works!!! Plus it grips like no other FWD car i've been in so....... if I had it Jay, i'd offer you £10k min.

Don't let go of her if you don't have to mate :D

Superb car, no question top engineering too, make sure you're doing the right thing before you decide to sell that car is unique.

Congratulations on the Class Win at Santa Pod, how did you go on on the quater mile?

What would the new project be?

Problem with something as unique (and complete) as yours is that it will always be YOUR car - whoever buys it has to be prepared to accept that - I don't know whether I could, however much I liked / wanted the car

:D how many reactions did you expect in 8mins? people are still reeling from the shock!

I think the hard part will be putting a price on it, it owes you 4 years, a couple of pints of blood/sweat and I should think a dented credit card, so naturally to you its worth a fortune. As Phatvr6 found when trying to sell his 'rado, other people arent always willing to pay the premium for the effort you've put in. If you priced it at about 8k I think you'd be realistic, but I wouldnt expect it to shift quickly. I'm sure you know already that selling on a modified car is always harder, no matter the quality of the work, and you car is the very definition of the word 'modified'.

It does pose an interesting question! I'm sure you would be quite with in your rights to be looking for £10K+ but from the buyers end will someone pay that for it?

I think it's often the reason for project cars being broken or butchered for a new project :?

Why not go 4 wheel drive and turbo if you're looking to do something new?

one big question Jay, how do you think you would feel when you see it been driven from you?? would the £10k make you feel ok?? i doubt it, it has been your life for the past 4 years, thats more time than any of my ex's.

Think theres room to build on Jays work though (charger/turbo/NOS etc). Think 8k is a very reasonable price, the car is prob in better nick than a 2 year old golf V or similar, and you know for a fact that car has been looked after. 8K would be to cheap. (unless you fancy selling it me for 8K!)

agree'd theres room to build on it and agree'd its in better nick than a 2 year old golf, but I really think Jay would struggle to sell it at 10k, its almost twice the price of a standard VR in really good condition. Horses for courses I guess, for me 10k would be too steep, but there'll be those out there that would pay it.

Unquestionable a beautiful car and i bet the hours spent on it are frightening (let alone the ££). You'll cry when that thing drives of into the sunset!!

Are you planning on sticking with corrado's or trying something different? Cant wait to see what you produce next.

To be honest I don't think the car can be compared to a Standard VR Corrado in any way at all.

The vast majority of people will not understand what this car is. Those that have been in the car will understand more, those that drive it and live with it will understand completely.

Not sure what I will do next, but I know I will still be involved with dubs :)

/\

I agree, but if you change the rims and it'll look a lot fresher and less like 'Jay's C'.

If you can afford to, keep it. I'd rather fire mine into space than let it go for a fraction of what it's really worth, but if it's got to go, best of luck to you and it's been a pleasure watching it's progress over the past few years ;-)

I'm well into my MK5 GTIs now, so I suspect that's what my next project will be. Corrado is going nowhere though ;-)

Its purely a financial thing. I could keep it and do nothing to it other than maintain it, but I have an inbuilt need to "build" stuff and to fund a new project I "need" to sell it.

I will not sell it for silly money, its simply not worth it as you say.

Unless someone off the forum buys it (who knows what it has/means) I doubt your standard autotrader peeps will pay too much over the odds.

If you advertise on specialised forums/clubs etc then I'd reckon on £8k ish.

Somethings only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

Banged up VR= £1500

Respray = £1500

Engine 24v Conv = £2800

Leather Interior Retrim = £2000???

TT dash Conv = £2000

I know it prob doesn't cover all that you've done (full loom etc) but these are actual quotes I've got, apart from the retrim.

Total Cost = £9800

Thats for garages/bodyshops doing all the work, obviously most is labour.

Would the new project be a Corrado?

LOL. OK.

Sorry Andy, but that doesn't cover anywhere even close to what has been done. Its a nice idea, but if thats what you think it is I will not bother to explain.

didn't expect to see this thread tbh, or, well, maybe I did, as you say, you like to build things.

Its a shame that you won't get your money back from her, but you never do from things like this (unless its a house nowadays ).

If you stuck it up for sale for 8k would have thought someone would buy it, but you'd have to aim it at clubs and forums (as said above) as the guy off the street going through autotrader just wouldn't unstand what had gone into it.

I really would look at my finances if it came up, but doubt I could stretch to that tbh, i'm just thinking that the things I want to do to mine in the long run (retrim, TT interior, engine transplant, respray, drivetarin, loom etc etc etc) and they will all push mine above that £8k :(

but you've done alot more than I would/could ever do to mine

gl with it mate, keep us posted on what you decide, and I'm another one who's seen it in the flesh and can back the workmanship

Ah, wheels, quaife, suspension just to name a few!

Forgot about those! Suppose I should have read the sig!

Anywho, one point I was attempting to make is that your average joe bloggs (not a vw nut) will prob just see a modified Corrado with an engine conversion, regardless of how good it is. Unless you looking for something like yours, a lot of buyers will prob want a standard car.

No denying what its worth to you and money spent, but you'll never get all that back.

As for keeping it, I would, but I haven't owned it for 4 years! What would you want to do next time?

at the end of the day it will always be known as being "your" car Jay and much as its probably one of the top 5 modded Corrado's in the UK,unfortunetly it won't appeal as much as a totally minted original/unmodded Corrado.........which i'm sorry to say don't really achieve more than £10k............its a poor return for the amount of time and skill you've put into it but i'm afraid thats the nature of the beast

To be honest with all of you its never ever going for £8K. Ever.

When there are bog standard VR's going for over £8K and people selling modified MK2's for £16K.
