Someone who actually understands the car a bit.

Its basically brand new. "Everything" was replaced with new bits, right down to the rad fan.

It is literally like driving a new car. I think I need to take some more people out in it!

Theres only one way to find out how much people are willing to pay.

If you don't get the offer your willing to sell it for then theres your answer, you keep it.

Agree with VR6Storm though, it will always be 'oh you've got Jays car'. Which means its brilliant, but someone else did it.

I would never expect to get back what I have paid/put into it, that would be a huge amount. I am looking at it relative to other cars out there and so will people in the market for this sort of thing.

I am also not expecting anyone outside of the VW scene to buy it.

I also think people are not bothered by "its Jays car" they just don't have the time/inclination to build something like this and would rather buy one for a hell of a lot less than it would cost them to pay for it to be built. As someone said earlier stick a different set of rims and a personal plate on and if it pulled up at a show people would not know it was mine.

tbh I see the "Jay's Car" thing, but none of us built our cars, thats like saying to a slightly modded C owner "ahh, but VW built that, not you".

I do see the point, and it will happen, I just think its amusing that most of our cars are 99.9% VW built, and we have slightly modded them, but there is no reference like there would be if you bought Jay's

I don't believe that mate, everyone knows what it is

£16k for a mk2? Surely not?? I could advertise my car for £20k but that doesn't mean it'd sell! I can't imagine anyone on here paying so much. No-one disputes the amount of cash and time thats gone into the car, its spot on. I think the fact that you've blown your trumpet so much and made it so well known as your car has and will put people off.

Great car Jay, but you'll never make your £ back, and doesn't matter how many parts are new.

best thing for you to do is keep it then...........cos really unless you get £15k+ for it you will by the sounds of it feel short-changed..............and no disrespect to you or the work you've put into it........i'm sorry to say thats not going to happen

If I say anymore I'll be repeating my views, so one question I have is.....

If you did sell it for around what you would want, what would be next? Given it any thought?

I understand its pretty much a ground-up rebuild with improvements and modifications to make it something better than the original corrado was, you've said before now that EVERY part of the car has been modified in some way shape or from and I've no reason to doubt that, its a fantastic car and a testiment to your hard work that its getting so much interest and attention.

I dont want to detract from the car or your work at all Jay, I've got alot of respect for you doing something thats so far out of my grasp its not even real.

My comments came off the back of PhatVR6's attempted sale of his 4x4 r32'd beasty and the fact that he failed to shift what was (at the time) the UK's only r32 4x4 corrado - something pretty special, and at a price not much above whats being suggested here. Yes your car goes further than his in terms of 'like new' appeal, but you hopfully see what I'm saying. Your car is worth more than 8k, hell its worth more than 20k, its what people will be prepared to pay for it that I'm trying to get at.

shutting up now :?

If you advertise on specialised forums/clubs etc then I'd reckon on £8k ish.

Somethings only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

Banged up VR= £1500

Respray = £1500

Engine 24v Conv = £2800

Leather Interior Retrim = £2000???

TT dash Conv = £2000

I know it prob doesn't cover all that you've done (full loom etc) but these are actual quotes I've got, apart from the retrim.

Total Cost = £9800

It's a whole lot more than that unfortunately. If you look at say, a Lamborhini Gallardo, it costs something like £110K IIRC? If you break it down to it's component parts (a lot of it Audi stuff) then it's probably about 50 grand's worth in raw materials.

What you're actually paying for is the 'creation' and knowledge you won't see dozens of them in every line of traffic you drive past. Same with Jay's and anyone else that's done a major build, A20 Lee, BiggerBigBen, PhatVR6, Coxy etc etc....it's all the bespoke hard work that isn't immediately obvious that costs, and what cost can you put on a intense manual labour and ingenuity? Lambo think that is worth £60K, and maybe Jay's is worth £8-9K in 'parts' but £20K (?) as a 'creation', if that makes sense? It does to me anyway, LOL!

Unfortunatley 98% of buyers will focus on the parts value, not the bespoke one off value. Finding the 2% that appreciate it and will pay for it is very hard.

Thanks for all your comments, I am obviously in the wrong place.

Andy - I have no idea mate. Depends on what/if it sells for. Maybe a Lambo or a Mclaren F1 :)

WOOOOHOOOOO I knew there would be someone :)

Oh, but I would never expect anything like £20K or even £15k for my car.

Don't worry mate not you, it was a few comments posted up that were a bit low.

I guess I should just ignore it all, but I want people to understand and get a bit defensive :(

It's all about 'acceptable loss' at the end of the day ;-) If building the car was worthwhile and rewarding on a personal level, a small loss is easier to swallow.

sorry Kev you can't compare the ideas behind the Lambo and Jay's motor, the Lambo is a ground up design, whereas Jay's is a modifaction of an already designed car

Jay like ardandy says advertise it at a price you'd be happy selling it for and see how it goes

Unfortunately the answer isn't going to be the one you want to hear mate. Its worth (market-wise) whatever it sells for, but that obviously isn't going to match up to what it's worth to you personally and financially.

I don't think there's any need to have a pop at anyone's comments though - that elusive 2% that Kev mentions is gonna be virtually impossible to find i would think, so the comments are fair are they not?

Good luck with the sale and the next project......
