Jim Bowen 1 Posted June 22, 2015 Had the sill welded now, guy did a good job imo, much better than the previous repair. And then painted in that rust encapsulator paint for now, still deciding what to do with the bodywork, might leave it in the black until its back on the road and then go see some bodyshops about a full respray. Gone all the way down the sill, to be sure.... Next job is the rust on the wing and then got to repeat it all on the other side of car. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Jim Bowen 1 Posted June 22, 2015 Cheers, It is taking me ages, most weekends and evenings since xmas. I much prefer doing myself though, i don't seem to trust garages any more. Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 6, 2015 Not been up to much on car the last couple of weeks, Spent ages cleaning up the calipers to paint (again) (3rd time lucky) Bought this kit to try this time: http://www.frost.co.uk/por15-caliper-painting-kits.html Cleaned up calipers, Rear weren't that bad and bought new carriers for them The metal prep and ready spray is meant to help eat rust and leaves a zinc coating The paint (nasty stuff, still got it all up my arms/hands, nothing seems to remove it, even acetone. Took about 5hrs as the kit comes with brushes and you have to do 3 coats in total. A little lumpy but it'll do, i think it was too hot when i painted them so paint started to thicken as i was applying it Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I was wanting to look into getting my callipers stripped and zinc plated as they are seriously scabby.. but I think that's going to be a difficult and expensive process.. maybe this sort of kit is the better option. Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 6, 2015 I nearly sent them off to Bigred for a refurb, but was going to cost something like £200, so went with the £35 option. Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 20, 2015 Almost done the underside now, can see the crossover point here, i had to do the rear end and then the front as axle stands were in the way. Got to order a sill repair section as some of it really needs cutting out rather than me trying to get it patched. Gave up with that for now as waiting for a repair section. Got car back on ground and gave the engine bay a steam clean (i had cleaned it already, but was so long ago it got dusty again, also i didn't have a steam cleaner back then) Wings temporarily put back on, the whole front end is just placed on really, still need to get bits painted, but all the rust is now gone. Jim Bowen 1 Posted July 20, 2015 I will be pleased when it done as starting to get a bit fed up working on it all the time and the planning what bits to do when and what parts i need. I think i can fit engine now and leave some of the under body waxing and some more cavity wax until most of car is finished. Getting lots of urges to be out driving it. Jim Bowen 1 Posted August 10, 2015 Got the engine in yesterday, was quite chuffed as a mate was going to come and help but he had to watch some game where a load of men kick a ball around some grass??? So i thought i'd do it on my own. Painted the rear end during the week, not lacquered it yet though, not too bad for a rattle car. Drained gearbox oil Filled with MT90 New clutch fork and other parts that were easily replaced. Chuggs, its not too hard really, i just picked up the spanners one day after getting in a huff about other peoples work, thinking i could do better myself. Got the Techtonics down pipe on lastnight Few gearbox bits (am expecting the gearbox to need a rebuild in the future but couldn't afford it this time round so got a spare i was going to drop off at stealth when i get the engine mapped.
