Its a fully restored Corrado apparently. It was up for 40K.

 

I reckon it will go between 20k - 25K or might not sell because the reserve might be to high.

I think it’s a lovely car . Yes it’s fully restored. I remember seeing pics on here years back ,whilst it was on a jig and the underside was being done . So much work has gone in to this car it’s a perfect example.

There is also a Storm for sale with only 24K miles on the clock.

 

If you could knock a few K off it and spend a few k on it I think there is an easy 5k profit for someone. Collectors like two things LTD Edition + Low Mileage.

My take, the interior is unique but otherwise its a normal VR. Outer colour was on Mk3's as was the wheels. So yes its a limited car but there is no real back story behind the Campaign other than being a slightly different model. Its doesn't get any special mechanical bits etc etc. You can argue the Storm was the same and in reality it is the same, just slightly different from standard. They command a premium but not a massive premium is justified.

 

I appreciate the efforts that have gone into this car but I just don't see the perceived value TBH.

 

I would love another but I think as someone mentioned earlier the getting bits etc being a pain takes the fun out of it. Constantly worrying about if something breaks can you fix it. One of the reasons I sold my old Rs4 was that even things like bonnet release cable were obsolete, also one of the reasons Ive kept with the 996 is that this is supported so well even from the factory. No fun in owning something you can use and enjoy.

With any auction you need at least 2 enthusiastic bidders for a show. At£20k plus I doubt any traders will be interested as the risk of it being a land yacht is high.

Totally agree with the Campaign comments, I personally wouldn't pay any premium for it because I'm not into the exterior or interior colour scheme, sort of reminds me of the special editions that they had in the R129 which equated to ornate trims and a funny name like alamantine, these hold no extra premiums in the R129 world , unless it has a SL60 or Sl73 stamp on the back then your sharing the same engine as a Zonda so well worth the extra.

 

Would like to add a 911 to my collection again but no urgency there are 5 pages alone of 996, full of them on Autotrader - could not justify selling a rare Corrado for a 996 as bloomin hard to get hold of a well sorted Rado with a Schrick and your desired interior/exterior colour scheme.

100% agree with you there. Especially when most of us into cars can get a bit obsessive at making them just right only to be disappointed you can't get new parts and mostly end up with 25 year old bits at extortionate prices vs equivalent new bits for other old VWs.

It can get to you sometimes but we somehow all manage . One thing I will say about the 996 is a great driving machine and I totally disagree the interior is poor quality as a lot of reviews state, I had alcantara headlining on mine and also the leather is that thick they must of got it from a Rhino. Just everytime you go and see a Porsche specialist they seem to wiggle 1.5 to 2 k off you from my experience.

 

 

I've put a couple of pics on my album of my old seal grey 996.2 do- miss the old girl. In fact sod it think i'm going to sell my Golf Mk7, I've lived without one to long and use My Mk2 golf as a daily what they were intended for. The bloomin Merc having major regrets selling that !

See I disagree to some extent. The back story is what makes it unique and gives it the premium. Why do people covet the first of a limited number in a special edition, or why do People pay a premium on a car that has been owned by celebrities??? It may not be mechanically any different from others, but the interior also makes it unique and they are truly unicorn cars. In 9 years of Corrado ownership and attending a fair share of meets and shows (though not in the past couple of years admittedly), I've never seen one. Granted you're making your pool of potential buyers even smaller in what is already a small market for the Corrado if your looking at it from an investment point of view, but occasionally there are some with the funds to purchase these types of cars. I just hope the winning bidder (if a sale is agreed) doesn't just keep it locked away as an investment and others get to see it. You can keep your turbos, VDO gauges and Recaro interiors, because I would guarantee that more people would flock round this than the most well kept and equipped Corrado out there.

Its not about what most people flock around that most Corrado owners want, they want their dream Corrado which is recaro, gauge pods, VSR /Shcrick, Turbo supercharged for some. How often do you see a well sorted one that has all these options without the seller selling them on first. Well lets hope its goes for strong money for the sellers sake as I have seen the seller mention 50k been spent on the car.

Again I disagree. Most people don't want modified Corrado anymore. They're considered modern classics now, and as such the majority prefer standard OE spec cars. I'm not saying that applies to everyone, but I've been around the forum long enough to see the trend change that way. We all want acceptance off our fellow Corrado peers in some way let's not kid ourselves, otherwise we'd be modifying them to high heaven to suit our needs. God knows there are enough cheap kits out there to bring the car up to what would be modern comfort standards. The reason we don't though is that we appreciate the classic original styling, responsiveness and feel of the car. We don't go too far outside of this now for fear of removing all of the above.

Yeah but Recaro, Corrado scripted gauge pods, and VSR (pierburg )are VW options so are highly sort after as correct period factory upgrades.

Two things that make the Campaign stand out for me: the interior and the fact that is a VR with an early interior, a rare combination anyway. Then you can add the exterior colour and the 1 of 6 etc.

 

Not 40k special though - this could be a case of the seller trying to get back some of what they put into the restoration, and that doesn't always work out.

Yes rare agreed can't deny that but most people's cup of tea I wouldn't think so. All I want is Shaun's Recaros ha to finish my car or anyone else' s ? God knows how much VSR fetch now I reckon 2.5k.

You're right there, can't say I'm overly enamored with the interior to be honest but as you say, rare indeed. The VSR is a rare beast also. 5 years ago a Shrick was about £6-700 and a VWM VSR about £11-1200. Both have probably doubled in price in that time (as have the cars to be honest). I paid £620 for a car that needed a bit of work and sold it for £1500 for a quick sale. Even poor examples are at the 2.5k + mark now. How times change after a bit of exposure from Mike Brewer & Ed China! Lol

Still love my car(s), either running or not. But hells teeth, I’d give second thoughts to starting again.

 

And I think that’s where a lot of the value is. Simply keeping one running is hard enough, finding parts and restoring one = serious hours searching for parts.

 

Spending nearly a year trying to obtain a straight drivers scraper seal in fair condition, plus four months for head bolts and a brake compensator kind of knocks the shine off it a little.

 

Hopefully it sells for strong money and makes the Corrado more visual to other petrol heads / collectors. That way we all benefit and with it more reason for manufacturers to provide greater part support.

Yeah they are good lads and down to earth.  not like these spoilt kids like Smee with rich parents  and them sort of car youtube channels.
