  1. Either way, my oppinion on if we are drastically affecting our climate doesnt matter... why, because its merely the tip of the iceberg. Average Joe gets hacked off with stupid vehicle tax increases when the Gov clearly dont care. By that I mean that for example, I've lived in two counties. One did nothing about recycling and the other one provides one of these red boxes - meant for recycling paper, glass etc. Ooooh, sounds great, I was certainly impressed. All until I popped over to my friends pub. A pub whereby they fill one of those huge wheel-bins every day with glass bottles. He asked the local council what facilities there were for them to come, collect and recycle. The answer was a terrible one... it turned out that it was far more expensive to have them recycled than to have them taken the tip. Now he just doesnt care and does nothing to recycle; how about they make it a requirement that these businesses recycle. Another point. Increasing tax on the 4x4 owners with thier £50k+ lexus/range' will hardly care about a £200/year increase. Pocketmoney!
  2. why bother? Congratulations on having a better half, as most of them cant be said as being "better" (for the driving element that is) - its a rare thing, cherish it. Theres a lass near us that me and my 'mate' take notice of at times as she drives a 944 reasonably well; I can see my mates mind going into overdrive... poor lads smitten
  3. Checked thier real website too; again the same prices apply. So no big rush!
  4. I trust no-one. I seriously cannot be arsed with banter either. It was a jokingly made comment expecting female response and laughter... I also retracted teh comment, having know so decent women too. Should you have read any of my rant threads some years back you'll know I hate men/chavs just as much as middle-aged-mum-4x4 drivers. Kev - lets have it
  5. Respect - but women can't drive! ...... haha, only kidding; just most of them can't park for diddly. Total respect to all Corrado female owners. RIP OFF MERCHANTS Talk about getting ripped off. 3 weeks ago my mate got some new tyres and I tested the tread depths; whilst at it I decided to check my gf's tyres too. As they had been swapped front to back, they all had 3 to 4mm on them. Then last week she got an awkward puncture and took it to the local (cos driving 6mile into Cov and getting the same tyre £10 cheaper just wasn't an option - huh) garage. There they fitted the new tyre. Then they mentioned the other tyres, to which the gf said well can you do me a deal on them, to which they said ok, £5 off each one. But I'd buy them now because your tyres are really low on tread and "have about 120 mile life left" in them. She said she needed to think about it. Im still fuming mad about it now and in two minds about going down there. Its total robbery. He was basically saying you only get less than 900 miles out of a set of tyres. Cheeky fekker - its only a 1.5 deisel; not a 911, the fronts have another 10,000 mile left in them and the rears will last ages and ages.
  6. And do the calipers look like this FINN TYPE, or do they look different (smoother/simpler)? - I ask as Ive seen two types for sale. stu :|
  7. can you post up the info(quote)? .............. meanwhile I'll pm gman I'd be after the springs alone
  8. £424 including postage on ebay for the 16" x 7", with tyres. Phoned him and he says they come with Toyo Proxes 8)
  9. Seen these 16" x 7j Ace alloys, which are not too disimilar to the bbs ones, but much cheaper. Anyone know if these are a duff make?
  10. discussed this some time ago. Varied oppinion. Final verdict was to prevent it firstly by waxing the hell out of the alloy and thus allowing it to simply rub off easily. Oh the joys of owning multispoke alloys LOL
  11. anyone even noticed one of these on thier 16v C drive shaft?
  12. The circular ring around the drive shaft, made of plastic/rubber and metal - assume its a vibration damper - has perished and no longer sticking to the shaft, so infact was spinning freely on the driveshaft, which I suspect would create some vibration. Does anyone know if this thing is worth replacing?
  13. bit of annoying plod; cant say Ive ever been pulled, but cant say I'd do 35 in a 30 with plod blatantly behind me. However doing 30 in a 30 with plod about does seem slow too, as you're bound to get a que of traffic behind you too -- grin and bear it. Sounds like he was bored and wanted to pull you. As for his vehicle check, anotehr good reason to keep it legal. Could always use the markers on the Motorway to check the speedo. Although they say the GPS isnt accurate, mine seems pretty good. Not sure about the bike, but im certain thats a good 3mph out like your C.
  14. CLICK -- so what more do you want to know? And yes, you can't just go replacing one shock; do both of the rears. Easy to DIY. In addition to my oppinion in the above thread link, the tyres do make a difference, or should I say wheels size; a 15" wheel means a bigger profile tyre, which can mean more comfort. Ensuring all bushes and stops, rubbers are all in good nick will help too.
  15. did you find a 30mm drop? I searched the next 6 months ago looking for a 25-30 drop but couldnt find any. Most were 40mm, and one place said maybe possible to do 35.
  16. I have got my self the 1992 G60 calipers (and 280mm discs) and planned to pop some new pads in too. GSF only supply one type of pad for the G60; the type that have a springy bit at the top to keep them in place. EBC show two different types of pad and therefore made me hesitate in installing the GSF ones. As seen below. So can anyone confirm that there are two types; why thre are two types and whats the difference (other than the obvious sizes given) - I was thinking maybe they hold in differently? (why the bigger HOLE??? in the 1992's) ps - just spoke to VAG and they were asking for engine codes etc (which wouldnt tie up off a 16v) but in the end she said they were all the same pad. So why do EBC list two?
  17. ps - dont forget to get the camber set up too; it'll tramline like a fekker if not.
  18. I'd do a search on here first. Mostly people like the H&R's with koni shocks when they lower thier C's. Presume you are not after coilies. Yet you are looking to LOWER the car? If you were not lowering the car, VW would be fine/good. However I found my self a lovely set of Bilstiens which are also a well known brand.
  19. DUBST4R, just a few points. I had mine 40mm low and also felt every bump, but that was partly due to running 17" rims. Confused? - dont be, what I mean to say is that the tyre also takes up some of the bumps in the road too and the 17" wheel requires a thinner (lower profile) tyre which will be stiffer and have less give. Moving onto the actual suspension, there are two parts that people mention. Basically the spring will compress and oppose the upward motion of the wheel (and your motion downwards). If you lower a car, you should really only compress to the same point. That is to say that if a standard spring were to move 100mm, then your springs should only move 60mm. To do this the spring should be firmer and therefore feel stiffer and move less and therefore feel harsher, but also MORE stable. Good or bad - you decide. Depending what spring you bought, will depend how stiff they are. As for the shock, this opposes the spring (car moving back upwards), ie when the wheel moves out and away from the arch. If you had no shock or a very weak one (like those silly yanks), you'd find the spring forces your car back up too quickly. A stronger (lower) spring will force you up quicker and therefore people often change the shocks too so as to compensate for this. Once the car has sprung back up in a nice slow motion, it should stay there and not bounce down an inch or two - so for example when you bounce on your bonnet you would expect the car to come up once and not up-down-up (ossolate). The shock should not resist the initial bump. HTH in addition with herisites comment.
  20. Had to give VAG the chasis number, so they could give me the part number. GSF were then able to find the correct part - and no there are not off a Mk3.
  21. yep, asked the garage if ABS was needed and he confirmed YES, otherwise its a fail :(
  22. :( gutted, as the front work fine. And I doubt the rear will lock.
  23. David, you mean to say you have G60 front brakes and the 16v were too thick? How thick do the G60 ones need to be? As you can see, I am not after genuine VAG ones.
  24. Both rear ABS sensors are duff on the C. Got the option of replacing them for £48/each + VAT, off GSF*. 1. With the ABS warning light being on constantly, will it fail the MOT? 2. If so, and you chose not to fix the sensors, what can you do? - a. do people just simply disconnect the warning light and thus the front sensors still work; is this MOT compliant? Cheers * that price was given once I gave them the VAG part number. Before that they stated they only had Mk3 Golf ones, which were either £28/each or £62/each pending which ones I wanted/needed.
  25. Just a quickie Im after some G60 pads and many web sites state different pads pending on the age of the car. Why is this, is it down to the caliper type? If so, what are the year catagories? I've asked VAG for some G60 calipers, and think I stated 92. Which I presume take the 280mm disc. Any idea which pads to get, as even GSF sounded unsure on the phone. Was also looking at getting THESE, but have no idea if they're the correct size. Anyone confirm? Cheers stu
