  1. .. if it was the better model then it was a Hairdresser driving it, LOL. Unless Doc carries some goodies under the bonnet. Now the 2006 onwards model is lovely, I get to see these on the way to work every day - have done for the past 12 months.

  3. Going through the same thing. My wing got dented the weekend before xmas; I didnt use the car all xmas break or much before. So the only time it could have got whacked was in Tesco car park, at stupid o-clock at night, in Kenilworth of all places -- just to get some M&M's !! Presume, by Sydenham, you're local.
  4. got another quote at weekend TARTAN. Looking at £250 which ever way I want it done; as they'll spray onto the door slightly too for the blend. Gotta be done! :(
  5. gutted, presume the amp wasn't cheap either? See they didnt bother with the headunit though. As above, Im sure the glass wont cost much; just lots of time to hoover - it gets everywhere. For somereason I've been lucky in the dodgy places I've parked, yet in the nicer parts of the country, the C often gets damaged/dinged - just like recently; these idiot ponces in 4x4's. ps - wouldn't bother with that noddy steeringwheel lock, they've shown those come off in a matter of seconds. A proper imobiliser would be best.
  6. Doubt very much that my local bodshop would want to tackle that large dent, due to it being on the style lines - very hard to achieve. Then, once made perfect - if possible - you'd have to spray it. Therefore I assume its cheaper to find a second hand wing, rub it down to bare metal my self and then get it fitted and sprayed. It also works out cheaper that way because Im alreay getting the bonnet done from other bad luck and part of the quote was to blend the paint into both wings - so I hope he is willing to do the entire wing for no (or little) extra cost. I presume the fitting will be the worst bit? As for NEED, there are two reasons: a) I want it back to looking new, like it did before. b) Im sure it will badly affect resale value and hope to get it fixed for less than the downfall; the car with only 107k mile has to be worth £2.8k come summer time when its looking mint, yet with the large ding people will claim its crashed (although never to my knowledge) and worth less than £2k
  7. 1. There seem to be different Mk4 calipers on the market, THIS THREAD seems to show that there can be wrong ones. I've seen two different types on fleabay; one looked solid, the others looked fanned. Do you think it matters? 2. Does anyone know what Mk the 1994 Corrado 16v used for its carriers? ..... do yu think Mk3 calipers would be better, or is that what the 94 C already uses?
  8. sounds wise. Just bear in mind that you will bare all the risk and should the car feel odd even once the work is done, there would be no come-back. Who told you that those items needed fixing? The insurers garages might find even more faults or possibly less - who knows. Good luck chris!! -- at least you admitted you were going too quick, some people say the corner was too tight, lol.
  9. Best of luck Not sure of your car background, but simply put, the large lip on the discs mean they are largely worn and will need replacing. Pads are fairly cheap though. Sounds like possible wheel bearing naffed up then. For a car like this, you need to get friendly with a local garage who knows what he is doing and will charge fair prices pending what work he's done. Took me a while to find my guy, as a few were willing to fit my exhaust for £20, whereas this guy was more than happy to help me out with other items since where his car lift has been required - at no charge.
  10. Mancorr, I'd keep going through Matt's list of 'does it do that'. It could be an number of things if on the move: - dodgy wheel balance, because a weight fell off - dodgy tyre inflation - big bit of rubber coming off the tyre on the edge, but unlikely. - clipping the arch - wheel weight clipping the brakes, but you'd notice that as soon as you bought the wheels/tyres/car - wheel bearings going - wheel isn't bolted on tight - or most likely the drive shaft / joint, (wheel end) is on its way out as the rubber boot becomes cracked/perrished and lets water in. ****** . hope that helps As for the MOT, can you go back there to challenge them, once you've got a second oppinion? Bit too late now I guess. Presume the brake lines a perrished or buldging, rather than just looking old and dirty.

As Matt says, you can't see a minimal poor setting, unless its miles out / \ Even then, I'd expect it to tramline like .... like a tram, ie follow all the hollows in the road and be terribly nervous when going over the white lines. Again, old tyres will show bad wearing on the edge. I presume you have got the proper, full weight, engine in there - lol. You're not loaded up with stacks of bricks in the boot, huh; and the suspensions ok. Just joking.

  13. Nahh Bill, there are no trolleys at this MINI tesco. The other shops are shut and also are too small to have trolleys. If you look at the damage, you can see its taken a heafty whoomp!! Whoever hit my car, certainly felt it and must've panicked and driven off. The scratch lines suggest that the drove into it (the wiggly line) and then realised and swiftly reversed off (straight line scratch). I was barely in the shop for 3 minutes, simply buying some M&M's. I daren't go there again, even for milk, in fear of having the car 'vandalised' again. ps - yes the BBS will be getting a refurb come summer. ;)

  15. Bashing a car and leaving the scene without trace is like vandalism. Vandalism is like stealing. Im just gobsmacked this happened in a quiet residential area - its not as if its in Coventry. It was infact a quiet mini-Tesco carpark, dead at night, empty and about 10 spaces away from the entrance, ie alone.
  16. odd post. I've had no problems with VW exhausts and find they last longer than the aftermarket stuff, unless you're considering the full SS ones which tend to cost a little more. Mine has given me a lovely deep note for a couple years now and looks in great condition.
  17. dghodges I'm with the others here and go get the tracking checked. Is there any sign of odd wearing on your tyres? I have the 2.0 C and find the steering a perfect balance between light (lighter than a Scirocco) and heavy (much heavier than modern cars such as a Megan). It always goes back to centre, and even fights it. In addition to the camber and toe being corrected, make sure your tyre pressures are realistic - overwearing in the middle suggest they are overinflated and overworn edges mean under inflated - but this takes many miles to realise this, just check the pressures with an accurate guage. My C has no notchy feeling. WARNING: about your CAT, it could simply be a heat sheild, I'd get under the car with a long metal pole (scredriver) and start pressing the metal plates to see if one is loose - best done on a car lift with engine running to make the noise re-occur. Genuine VAG CAT's are expensive but will last ages; there are other makes of CAT you can use.

    Yep, you could Do It Yourself. All depends on what you want them for? If you want those wheels for SHOWS then I'd get them done professionally for a small price. However, if all you want is very nice looking rims for daily use, then I'd DIY; there is always the horrible chance that you may do some minor damage yourself one day. Even if the rims were laquered, I'd still DIY, but be aware that you need to apply some laqure afterwards, to prevent rust. Obviously you protect the tyres by masking it all off. Alternatively to using the Autosil polish, you might want to paint them with silver. I cant quite make out what your alloys are, as the rim looks polished but the spokes look like a metalic paint; therefore no laqure required here. In either case, get them fixed before they blister (as this is what bare alloy/metal does), or save them for summer. PS - you would probably start off with a tiny file, very carefully, to remove those large sratches, whilst keeping the curved shape - tricky. Then you use the (emery) Wet-n-dry paper - you litterally WET the paper before using it (do not use sandpaper). Your scratches look fine, but if they were worse/deeper, or they had started to blister, there is a nasty chance it would affect the tyre seal and therefore in that case I'd get them done professionally.
  19. I presume you have no Corrado history your self, nor your dad. The next best thing is to get familiar with the usual problems by looking at the forum, as you have done. As DOUBLE already said, the VR6 isn't cheap to run on a limited budget. Whereas my 16v (1994) has cost me next to nothing, except petrol (expected) and vandalism (unexpected). My 16v feels very solid too, and much more planted than some modern cars - there are the odd rattles which show signs of an old car and plasticy bits getting loose. As you already know, your main concern - on a budget - is the big cost items. Obviously I'd expect the normal 'wear' items to wear out quicker on a VR, such as joints etc; but as already said, a car like this I'd want some spare money in reserve. I personally would love the VR as a daily driver, but would expect to be buying maintenance parts on a regular basis - comes with the teritory. Your Polo will be much cheaper to run... if its not a nail, lol. Oh and I take it you have a £1,000+ ready for the insurance - group 19 - , based on your 23 age, right?
  20. Come xmas day I found that with age comes fewer presents and to my surprise a lack of chocolate. However I soon perked up when I found that the GF had bought me the best xmas gift so far... a day out on a Rally course. Whooohooo, oh yeh !! Later that day we came home from the parents to find my Corrado sitting there looking sorry for its self. Some half wit had decided to put a deep gouge/dent into the passengers (nearside) wing. No note or phone number was left and hence I was fuming mad. As Im only 3rd party insured I had to ask the missus if she was able to refund the Rally day to help me get the C fixed. Hence Im now looking for a wing too. Thanks Santa you fat b****, mind where you park your sleigh. :(

  23. Either way, they gotta be 16" IMO. Then as for style - either Porsche or BBS - much like A1 VR6, whereas Furkz is getting a tad fussy with the splits; almost a problem with the original G60's. 15" are too small - ~hangs head in shame~
  24. hmmmm, saw a very similar Storm going a few months ago, down south near Southampton/Pylmouth..... really wanted it too for the price. nice car @ top btw :)
