  1. Andrew - just had a look - Yes you've got MKV parts unfortunately (2004 onwards Golf and A3) and they are completely different...

Thought it was strange them having a 286mm rear setup as the MK4's with 312's got a 256mm vented rear setup.

  2. Well my brake hoses and bolts arrived today from supercharged so i thought i'd get all my parts out and try them against the car before fitting at the weekend!

I really wish i had'nt bothered, the 312mm brake setup i bought: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0333439044 is'nt going to fit my car the hole centres on the caliper carriers are around 145mm and the ones on my car are roughly 95mm!

So i then went and grabbed a disc and the hole centre are'nt the same either, im guessing they are 112 instead of 110! :(

So i've spent out £235 on brakes that are'nt going to fit my car to say i'm rather pi$$ed off is an understatement!!! :brickwall:

    Arse!!

Yeah they must have changed them... Calipers maybe ok though (will check ETKA at work tomorrow) but you are probably best off selling that lot and buying another set...

Carrier holes should be 100mm centre to centre and the hole in the disc should be 65mm with a 57.1mm face for the wheel to sit on.

I have some brand new discs and pads I can sell you at a good price if you just find calipers and carriers somewhere...

  3. You idiot!

Apart from the above legal implications on this site, VAGCOM is an extremly useful piece of software which is produced and continuously updated by a very small company (one person bassically) - Working in IT I know that software piracy will kill devepopement of this sort of thing or make it more expensive / limit availability.

It's only £100 or so to buy FFS - hardly going to break the bank is it..? you will struggle to get 2 hours garage labour for that these days at a specialist or 1 hour at a VAG dealer!

  4. You are pressure bleeding right??? If not you need to be as it's an ABS car...

I use about 20PSI to get good flow and the order is (on a UK RHD car with ABS)

Rear right, Left, front right, front left then MC and don't forget the clutch too!

If you have got air into the ABS system or still having major probs then I'd just take it to VW.

  5. O.K say i did go ahead with the conversion what i really wanted to know was what else would i need to fit the VR in? Would my gearbox match up? and what about the clocks? I know i would need the wiring loom, ECU and alternator. Is there anyone on here who has done the same conversion who could shred some light on this....Please.

Oh yeah i would obviously need a new manifold but what about the rest of my exsaust? its a magnex with no cat.

Huge amounts - everything in the drivetrain is different due to the 5 stud plus suspension... Rear beam, bushes and brake compensator, front crossmember, hubs, engine mounts, driveshafts, complete ABS system etc etc - and then you have the hassle of insuring a car with an engine conversion too.

Don't build a car you can buy! - The VR6 is a great engine but if you are going to do a conversion you're better off using something much more modern.

  6. Hey, the ECU's have an injector driver on the board, this can blow (common digifant problem) when the engine is not earthed correctly and it earths thru the ECU itself...

Make sure you try your ecu on the other car first to prove it's faulty!

  7. Ye, thanks, I did get them fitted. Seem fine so far but won't get tested hard with my car running like this :(

Good to hear... they drone a bit when you brake hard so don't panic when you hear the noise! :)

Meant to also say, give them 250 gentle miles to bed in then start using them harder - by 500 miles they should be very effective!

    What's up with the engine??

  8. Yeah, belt off and turn it by hand a few times to get the new fluid moving before starting up...

If it feels ok to steer - ie you have fluid and it's working then I would just do the car park thing - hopefully sort itself out.

  9. Yeah - should be do-able... you could loosen the servo bolts from inside the car but I'd try to do it without...

I changed my Brake Master this morning - fairly straight forward and did think about doing the clutch at the same time as I replaced the pipe leading to it from the fluid res but decided to leave it for now as I had a load of other stuff to do.

  10. Did you let the pmp run dry? if so it's probably shot - you need to prime by hand before starting up...

I would take it for a drive if it's not too bad to steer and do some figure of 8's in a car park... 15 trys should be ok if it was primed ok first but if not it may take a while to work the air out of the system.

Dont panic though - you might find it sorts itself out over a week of driving.

  11. What year car is it??

Sounds very much like the ignition switch and I can't believe a garage changed the starter without checking this!

Next time it happens you need to take off the plug to the starter solenoid (thick black and red wire) and check for 12V down it while the ignition switch is in the crank position.

If you get nothing it will either be the switch or an alarm / imob fault if fitted)

If your ignition switch is not black in colour (ie never been changed) I would get one anyway and you can test this without actually fitting it.

  12. No way - I'd expect Drew's is still worth 8-9k easy...

As I said above, cars it that condition are very hard to come by now,I'm not saying it would shift easily but if people are looking for an absolute minter then that's the one to have.
