  1. Get a pulley off a later car of MK3 mate - thats a well known issue with the KR engine... Jim - Yeah change the stat mate, if this isn't working spot on then nothing else will as the whole system is designed and regulated by this component...
  2. Hmmm - I'd say altho the G60 is designed for FI they do run *very* hot and seem to need Headgaskets around the 100 - 140k mark - obviously all depends on how they've been treated, oil etc The other well known issue is that they need big end bearings changing again at around 100k where you start to get a rattle under load, if these are left then obviously it's going to start wearing the block out. Great engines but obviously run much hotter and are more powerful than any other 8v units so will wear parts out a bit earlier... Best thing to do is to change these parts pro-actively, there is a reason why garages charge up to £500 to change a headgasket as if it's blown and been driven then you have a whole days worth of cleaning to do with the oil and coolant systems!
  3. Nocrap on here bought one only weeks ago - was about £30 iirc
  4. It should sit at 90 all the time!! Change the stat first...
  5. It should drop slightly if timing etc is correct but engine needs to be warm (ie on normal map) If the sender is more than 5 years old I'd change it anyway
  6. Sounds like the electric water pump isn't working - may have been what cooked it first time round also!
  7. Hi there, you need to test that your getting 12V down the red/black lead to the starter solenoid when the ignition switch is turned to the crank position... If you do get 12V ish then it's either a knackered starter solenoid or a bad earth / battery etc If not then it's either an ignition switch, wiring or immobiliser fault - did you fit one of the new black switches?
  8. I've chopped mine down and also fitted a forge mk4 shortshifter - perfect now!
  9. Yeah cheers, been meaning to put it up for a while as i've saved loads just buying bits and bobs...
  10. Halfords trade cards are available to 'high volume car parts buyers' which will include most of us who do there own servicing, to obtain one, go to your local branch and either speak to the manager or the supervisor on the parts desk taking with you a load of recent reciepts and maybe your CCGB / CGTI membership card if you have one... Service consumables and bulbs are peanuts and the discounts on tools and batteries are very good and they will also order things in like wheel bearings etc which they don't keep, below is a list of example prices (blatantly stolen from MSE) Bulbs Brilliant Headlight (Single) RRP £9.99 TRADE £3.50 Super Brilliant Headlight (Single) RRP £14.99 TRADE £7.50 Twinpack 12V 5W sidelight bulbs RRP: £2.49 TRADE: £0.46 Halfords Bulb Hbu382 21wat. 11. Should only be one type of filter for the Corrado VR6 (the ABV anyway) I reckon that might have had a replacement engine at some point early in it's life
  12. ^ Thats wrong!!! That setup was superseded by VW - number 7 is replaced by a special nut (threaded bush on ETKA) which fits between the rubber donut and clamps down on the mount and bearing.
  13. 1H0498625 is the repair kit £35+vat retail, £22 + vat trade from VAG and comes with all the nuts / bolts / grease to do the job
  14. Can't see the pics but the late VR's got a floating spring plate setup, it's a bit strange and I'm not exactly sure of the point of it but it should be fine, just make sure the top mount threaded bush is done up correctly.
  15. Welcome to the forum! Do you park facing uphill at all? I would press down on the carpet in front of the front seat and see if thats wet, If so then it's likely to be water leaking in around the heater fan seal or a (very) badly fitted replacement windscreen. Have a look here for changing that seal - very easy little job to do and worthwhile changing even if it doesn't fix the issue http://the-corrado.net/wiki/index.php/C ... over'_Seal It also could be a blocked drain tube for the sunroof but I would expect you'd notice water dripping down as your driving...
  16. Arse! - when was it last serviced?
  17. LOL - thats a rather sweeping statement!! - they don't cost alot and include all the parts to replace the whole ratchet mech and all you need is a pair of circlip pliers to fit - whats wrong with them!? Facom / Signet - good tools but will cost twice as much to get a set any near the size of the Halfords kit plus the lifetime swap out on the halfords kit makes it a far better buy! I've had my 150pce set for over 5 years now and the only thing i've broken is the case (latch broke) and they posted me out one of the newer type ones with a better latch mechanism and pne of the woble bars started to wear a bit and they did a straight swap on that, no questions.
  18. They'll go alrite but this was only meant to be a 2 day offer originally but i'm sure the deals are still there... They are cheaper that the GTI at list and very tempting but I do feel sorry for existing R32 owners - VW have very strange idea's on how to treat existing customers and I have a feeling they will have annoyed most of the people that have already bought there premium badged car along with completely devaluing the R range! A friend of mine enquired about the Scirocco last month to see if there were any deals to be had and was told they are not offering any discounts whatsoever! - I told him to wait till the new models are out next year along with the MK6
  19. Hi mate - yeah I've been looking for a similar solution for the Corrado TDI as that also has the 02M 6 speed box... You right it is a 240mm clutch and originaly I thought you could just use a G60 fly and VR6 clutch but as you say above, that doesn't seem to be the case for the 6 speeds... Be interested to see what you find out...
  20. Yeah it does say that on the kit - they keep repair kits on the shelf for a couple of quid!
  21. Lucas /Girling = same company... The actual castings and type of caliper (hand brake mech) look the same so you'll be ok as long as they are both 38mm pistons (some MK2 golfs use 34mm) As long as your happy they are mechanically good then i'd use them but keep an eye out for some MK4's
  22. Hmmm - should have been £90 as they have 10% off everything at the moment altho you might have to reserve on line... Also don't understand why people call them 'Halfrauds' - the tools are supperb and everyrthing else they sell is fairly competitive price-wise now especially service parts with a trade card - cheaper than anywhere!
  23. Powerflex ones will do for you mate - i'd pop into Stealth if you can get away from work early - might call you later to chat about next weekend!
