Leave alone? or clean and polish it? The factory wax in the door shuts... not sure what to do... I like my cars to be as VW intended maybe with a bit of plus added... whenever I've looked at buying dubs in the past the factory wax was always a good indication that it hadn't been scraped up and lashed back together... I was just looking at firing up the jet washer and cleaning the door shuts before I put the interior back in... the wax is pretty dirty... but original factory wax. Other than the fact it stood for years, its a 2 owner, straight, factory stock car.... Whats peoples thoughts?

Help needed with front dash speaker installation
Geeba replied to GrizzlyBear's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Just splice them in... I take it you have a full range speaker in the door? The capacitor on the stock speaker removes low frequencies so you technically had a door speaker playing full range and the dash as a tweeter. the only problem will possibly be depending on volume the dash speakers being smaller than the door ones and them both playing full range will distort before the door ones. I was fortunate, my car came with Infinity componenets in the front, so the door has a mid driver and the dash has a tweeter all wired up through a cross-over. could be worth looking at something like that? **edit Maybe something like this.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Infinity-Reference-5030cs-13cm-component-speakers-Car-/111333519094?hash=item19ebfeaef6:g:j6EAAMXQjWtRMHyq ***edit Or if you're considering an aplifier maybe these... I believe the Kappas are better quality and you'll get more out of them if driven by an amp... my ICE days are long ago... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Infinity-KAPPA-50-9cs-13cm-2-way-255W-Component-Speaker-/250879837224?hash=item3a699a8428:g:ViUAAOSwKPNTyAhE -

You look at a similar stage to me... ;) I've just got my car dry... I did the sunroof and scuttle drains and it was still leaking in heavy rain.. turned out to be the windscreen, the bonding had come away from the body, so I had to have a new screen, I've just redone all my felt sound deadening too, just about ready to get the carpet back in. Shame about the paint, a 1500 grit wet flat and a mop wont recover it?

Just for information, people with broken lifters, this solution does work.... This was a test run on a snapped part.. Centre punch (carefully) the centre of the snapped part and then pilot drill a hole, move to a larger drill to accommodate your tap, very carefully again tap a suitable thread in the monkey metal part. I did this without stripping the sunroof down on the actual one I used, but if you have access to a pillar drill and stripped it down it would probably be easier.. I then ground the screw head down leaving barely a millimetre of metal to hold the lifter in place, you could drill the thread of the screw and insert a small pin or spigot to fully replicate the original, but I just left a small amount of metal to hold the lifter on, then dabbed a bit of silver paint on it, you would never notice it unless you were seriously looking for it. Remember the lifter without the spigot will fall too low and foul on the frame of the sunroof so ensure you re-fit the trim ASAP! or watch very carefully when you are sliding it back or it will jam and snap it!

It wasn't too bad, for the four parts of the seatbelt rail and the front rad cross-member blasted and coated was £50, I thought that was pretty reasonable.

Thought it was time for an update... It was all going a bit slow but then a parcel from Lilfuzzer turned up and got things moving again! Nothing like a beer to put a pep in your step awesome packaging :D So I set about a few jobs - polished out any scratches with compound on all the tail lights... they all look like new now, all fitted back along with new fast reacting Philips bulbs - I'm going to keep all the old bulbs as they all said "Made In Germany" on them which makes me think they are the original factory fit items ;) nerdy I know but I'm an OE man. Fitted the lock barrel switch in... with the original screw! made a sacrificial screwdriver for the job... wasn't too bad In went a brand new windscreen! so the car is now completely water tight and the damp smell has gone. Wasn't overly sure on the retro green top tint.. but the rest of it matched in well and there was no choice as its all they had. hardly any rust under the screen to which was a relief - I did clean and treat what I did find thou. So now its dry, time to get the interior back in... the bitumen topped sound proofing was very mouldy and smelly on the passenger side and dusty and smelly on the drivers side, so I set about fixing that. I cleaned off the old stuff and used them as a template to cut new from underlay - I've used this before in previous projects.. half felt and half crumb rubber... feels nice compared to the old flat felt and the crumb rubber adds a good layer of sound deadening, I re-used all the factory bitumen after I had cleaned it and glued it to the crumb side of the underlay, again for the factory look..;) lol The rears I added some extra felt to recreate the cut-out for the floor-pan Speaker grills had gone a bit sun-faded and rusty, so I carefully stripped them down cleaned, de-greased and re-painted them satin black - they look really good and you would never know that they weren't factory... all the clocks and storks are also back in.. I'd been putting the sunroof off for ages... boy was I dreading it, thankfully MZpog came to the rescue and we did a quick deal on an old one he had, unfortunately once I had stripped it down one side had failed, so I whipped out the good side and transferred it to mine.. then had a think about how to repair the other side. did a quick test with a drill and a tap on the old one and happy days! So moved on to the good one... levelled it so I don't get a drunken tread.. And BINGO! a working sunroof! - I absolutely slavered it in grease so hopefully it will be ok for a while, I've still got to cut the head of the machine screw off so it matches the other side, but as it stands the sunroof adventure is over and its hopefully going back in the car today! Right sorry for waffling on... thats about as far as I've got, best look busy before attempting the sunroof.

Spen I think I'll put my hand up for one too please ;)

Hmmm thats interestin spen! does the light shine through the numbers ok? - is your car an auto? ** same here misterbeck... the bulb came off in my hand and promptly disintegrated :(
-
I did have a look on their site... they dont seem to list one... do they have a secret parts stash? :D
-
I'm still yet to drive my auto... she runs now but theres still a lot of work to do, I'm halfway through the sunroof at the moment and still have all the susspension and brakes to overhaul, still can't make my mind up on the auto box, mines busted so the temptation to go manual is there - but like you say not many left. https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/volkswagen_corrado_vr6_auto I guess it was the unloved brother for many years so would of been first in the parts bin!
