Hi guys, Still looking for one of each, uncracked please. (must be about the 30th time I've asked!)
-
I was about to suggest that he could do that with mine :afro:

When I bought the M3 last year, my intention was to sell the Corrado after getting the paint sorted a little and wheels refurbed. I guess I just never got round to doing that, and so it's still here! Some points I can think of: -The £15k was just the receipts I added up in my folder from the last 6 years, there's also a fair bit of undocumented stuff that I'd bought from the forum etc (+I did a lot of the work myself-so virtually no labour charges!). The figure included refreshing and rebuilding the car basically from the ground up, although it's never had any paint or ICE to speak of. -The Stealth kit is very comprehensive, and involves so many man-hours that I struggle to see how they make any profit on it. If you've already spent a lot on rebuilding your car, then I'd imagine there wouldn't be too many additions to the base price. Mine went over as I had stage 1+ done: as I'd spent so much getting the car ready, I didn't want to scrimp at that stage, and was happy when I ended up with 380bhp/375lb/ft. Both are very different cars: -I've had the Corrado for 6 years and bought it completely standard, so I've put a lot of love and hours into building it. It certainly has a place in my heart. -Although I like and respect the M3 for its power, looks and overall ability, I've never really grown to 'LOVE" it in the same way. Whether that's due to the noise, or fact that a lot of the enjoyment with the Corrado involved tinkering with it- perhaps that's why I think I've talked myself into picking up a B7 RS4 Avant in the next month or too... http://the-corrado.net/images/icons/icon6.png Is three cars too many?!!!!

I'm in quite a unique position to comment here as I own and run both a Stealth VRT and E46 M3. -I've had the M3 for a year and done 10,000 miles in it, 3500 of those were across Europe a month after buying it. I bought it knowing it would need an Inspection1 service (~£400) and 2 new tyres (£450). I also spent £350 on some H&R lowering springs. That's it, no further expenses. It stops, starts and goes fine. It's very reliable, comfortable and has immense power and grip as you'd imagine. It 'feels' properly fast and planted on the road, and pulls well despite only having ~300lb/ft of torque. -Where I live M3s don't really have the chav image, unless you spray the rear lights and black the windows out. -Insurance for both cars is very similar. - I've never needed to wait until the VRT was at 98deg before giving it some, it's been 100% reliable (conversion wise) over 10,000 miles of usage -Traction in the dry is fine with an LSD and Racelogic. It really cuts in very little after first gear. In the wet, you just use your brain - as you would driving a high powered RWD car... -Acceleration is ridiculous in gear, I had a ride in a Gallardo LP-570-4 a couple of days ago and I'd say it would rival that in a straight line. power/weight would support this. -The Turbo conversion really changes the character of the car, you really need to be ready to accept that, it also changes the noise notably -The Stealth route is pretty comprehensive, but I'd really add a good few grand on for consumables- oil cooler for one -I must of sunk over 15k into mine, and don't regret it for a minute. It was a project that I really wanted to do, and really enjoyed. I never considered the resale value at the time. It'll be interesting to see what you choose to do, let me know if you have any other questions. Andy

Hey mate, still got the VR front grill? Are all the clips ok? Also, wondered what the part number was for the ABS light? Does it end BA or AA? (Long shot but really need a drivers fog too!) Thanks, Andy

Looking for drivers side fog for a VR6, have you got one? Any photos?
-
Does anyone have a single lense they're willing to sell?
-
I've got a Wavetrac and Racelogic and traction was fine in the dry. Much like any FWD or RWD car with a lot of power, if you floor it round a corner, or in the wet, things are going to get a bit messy. Power is nothing without control!?

This has turned into an interesting thread. In my research on B7 RS4s I've read about an intentional flatspot around 3100rpm that was designed to help pass EU noise legislation- something to do with a test of max decibel level when under full throttle acceleration from ~31mph or something like that. Is that the cause of the Mk4 flat spot, or is it something else?

Turn the heaters on full power and temp when you are running the car up to temp with the top cap off, and manually squeeze any of the hoses you can get to. The hose key is talking about does get very hot as it runs over the exhaust manifold. As said it's just there to run warm coolant through the throttle body so it doesn't stick closed in really cold weather. Mine was T'd off ages ago and hasn't presented any problems.

Real good work so far Sean, paint looks so much better now. You still based in Witney? What kind of exotica have you been running around in? I remember you had an old 911 for a while? -
Stealth are very good too, they put a hell of a lot of work into mine, and it's good to know that everything has been thoroughly checked before being mapped. If you're trying to build it all yourself and also going OBD2 (which I'd recommend) then C2 are very highly rated both in the US and on VR6OC for the plug and play ecu maps. You'll need to be sure that your car is running right beforehand though obviously...

Mine has done 10,000 miles on 0.9bar boost with no problems. If you're staying below about ~400Bhp you should be fine on normal internals, spacer and ARP rod/head bolts.
-
Can they not use one of the MAFs from the other storms in the workshop until a new one turns up tomorrow? Id imagine all Storms would be late CP ECU type so will have the 4-pin MAF that's interchangeable?

Good luck today! You're in good hands with Vince!

The M135i is a cracking car by all accounts. For circa 30k you'd be mad to choose anything else if you were after a new car, particularly with the 0% PCP rate BMW have been doing. Bet it goes some! Congrats!

This project is so exciting! Really enjoyed watching it come together. I had a Devils Own kit when I was going to go Rotrex and it was a very good bit of kit. The support forum is also really good, with some well-informed people. Good luck getting it mapped on Monday, will be interested to hear a few sound clips once done, as I've not really heard a Rotrex VR for a while!

Really enjoy reading this thread. It brings back so many memories of building my car. It was such an exciting time rushing home from work every day to work on the car. Kind of miss it now it's all finished! Looking forward to seeing how the Rotrex turns out too. I had a Rotrex kit ready to go on before I decided to go turbo (even cut the head to mount it!). Should be a beast!

Hi Neal, I don't suppose you have an ABS Light part number 535 919 235 BA laying about anywhere do you? Also looking for a drivers side fog light. Thanks, Andy -
swapping a crank sensor and cam sensor - how to guide anyone?
poll250 replied to jpowell79's topic in Engine Bay
What size allen key is needed to change the Crank sensor? I tried mine a while ago and the bolt seemed to be rounded off. (+I couldn't get my Irwins to dig in) -
Looking for a reasonably priced, non-cracked Drivers fog for a VR please, posted to Oxford. Thanks, Andrew
-
Just to drag this up again, can you use an older switch (part 535 919 235 B) instead? There are plenty of these on ebay etc Does anyone know what many pins are on the back of the older switch (B)?
-
Hey, What's the part number on the ABS light? Thanks, Andy
